EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS	NEW JERUSALEM
1 En el pueblo de Israel hubo también falsos profetas. De la misma manera, habrá entre ustedes falsos maestros que introducirán solapadamente desviaciones perniciosas, y renegarán del Señor que los redimió, atrayendo sobre sí mismos una inminente perdición.	1 As there were false prophets in the past history of our people, so you too wil have your false teachers,who wil insinuate their own disruptive views and, by disowning the Lord who bought them freedom, wil bringupon themselves speedy destruction.
2 Muchos imitarán su desenfreno, y por causa de ellos, el camino de la verdad será objeto de blasfemias.	2 Many wil copy their debauched behaviour, and the Way of Truth wil be brought into disrepute on theiraccount.
3 Llevados por la ambición, y valiéndose de palabras engañosas, ellos se aprovecharán de ustedes. Pero hace mucho que el juicio los amenaza y la perdición los acecha.	3 In their greed they wil try to make a profit out of you with untrue tales. But the judgement made uponthem long ago is not idle, and the destruction awaiting them is for ever on the watch.
4 Porque Dios no perdonó a los ángeles que pecaron, sino que los precipitó en el infierno y los sumergió en el abismo de las tinieblas, donde están reservados para el Juicio.	4 When angels sinned, God did not spare them: he sent them down into the underworld and consignedthem to the dark abyss to be held there until the Judgement.
5 Tampoco perdonó al mundo antiguo, sino que desencadenó el diluvio sobre una tierra poblada de impíos, preservando sólo a ocho personas, entre ellas a Noé, el heraldo de la justicia.	5 He did not spare the world in ancient times: he saved only Noah, the preacher of uprightness, alongwith seven others, when he sent the Flood over a world of sinners.
6 También condenó a la destrucción y redujo a cenizas a las ciudades de Sodoma y Gomorra, para que sirvieran de ejemplo a los impíos del futuro.	6 He condemned the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah by reducing them to ashes as a warning to futuresinners;
7 En cambio, libró a Lot, el justo, que estaba afligido por la conducta licenciosa de esos hombres sin ley;	7 but rescued Lot, an upright man who had been sickened by the debauched way in which these vilepeople behaved-
8 porque teniendo que vivir en medio de ellos, su alma de justo se sentía constantemente torturada por las iniquidades que veía y escuchaba.	8 for that upright man, living among them, was outraged in his upright soul by the crimes that he saw andheard every day.
9 El Señor, en efecto, sabe librar de la prueba a los hombres piadosos, y reserva a los culpables para que sean castigados en el día del Juicio,	9 Al this shows that the Lord is well able to rescue the good from their trials, and hold the wicked for theirpunishment until the Day of Judgement,
10 sobre todo, a los que llevado por sus malos deseos, corren detrás de los placeres carnales y desprecian la Soberanía. Estos hombres audaces y arrogantes no tienen miedo de blasfemar contra los ángeles caídos.	10 especially those who follow the desires of their corrupt human nature and have no respect for theLord's authority. Such self-wil ed people with no reverence are not afraid of offending against the glorious ones,
11 mientras que los ángeles superiores en fuerza y en poder no pronuncian ningún juicio injurioso contra ellos en la presencia del Señor.	11 but the angels in their greater strength and power make no complaint or accusation against them inthe Lord's presence.
12 Pero ellos, como animales irracionales, destinados por naturaleza a ser capturados y destruidos, hablan injuriosamente de lo que ignoran, y perecerán como esos mismos animales,	12 But these people speak evil of what they do not understand; they are like brute beasts, born only to becaught and kil ed, and like beasts they wil be destroyed, being injured in return for the injuries they haveinflicted.
13 sufriendo así el castigo en pago de su iniquidad. Ellos se deleitan entregándose a la depravación en pleno día; son hombres viciosos y corrompidos, que se gozan en engañarlos mientras comen con ustedes.	13 Debauchery even by day they make their pleasure; they are unsightly blots, and amuse themselves bytheir trickery even when they are sharing your table;
14 Son seres malditos, cuyos ojos no pueden mirar a una mujer sin desearla; seres insaciables de pecado, que seducen a las almas débiles y cuyos corazones sólo conocen la codicia.	14 with their eyes always looking for adultery, people with an insatiable capacity for sinning, they wilseduce any but the most stable soul. Where greed is concerned they are at their peak of fitness. They are undera curse.
15 Ellos abandonaron el camino recto, extraviándose tras los pasos de Balaam, hijo de Bosor, que se dejó seducir por un salario injusto;	15 They have left the right path and wandered off to fol ow the path of Balaam son of Bosor, who set hisheart on a dishonest reward, but soon had his fault pointed out to him:
16 pero él encontró quien le reprochara su falta: un animal de carga pronunció palabras humanas y puso freno a la insensatez del profeta.	16 a dumb beast of burden, speaking with a human voice, put a stop to the madness of the prophet.
17 Los que obran así son fuentes sin agua, nubes arrastradas por el huracán: a ellos les está reservada la densidad de las tinieblas.	17 People like this are dried-up springs, fogs swirling in the wind, and the gloom of darkness is stored upfor them.
18 Con sus palabras altisonantes y vacías, atraen, por medio de los deseos desenfrenados de la carne, a los que apenas acaban de librarse de los que viven en el error.	18 With their high-sounding but empty talk they tempt back people who have scarcely escaped fromthose who live in error, by playing on the disordered desires of their human nature and by debaucheries.
19 Les prometen la libertad, siendo ellos mismos esclavos de la corrupción: porque uno es esclavo de aquello que lo domina.	19 They may promise freedom but are themselves slaves to corruption; because if anyone lets himself bedominated by anything, then he is a slave to it;
20 En efecto, si alguien se aleja de los vicios del mundo, por medio del conocimiento del Señor y Salvador Jesucristo, y después se deja enredar y dominar de nuevo por esos vicios, su estado final llega a ser peor que el primero.	20 and anyone who has escaped the pol ution of the world by coming to know our Lord and SaviourJesus Christ, and who then allows himself to be entangled and mastered by it a second time, ends up by beingworse than he was before.
21 Más le hubiera valido no conocer el camino de la justicia, que después de haberlo conocido, apartarse del santo mandamiento que le fue transmitido.	21 It would have been better for them never to have learnt the way of uprightness, than to learn it andthen desert the holy commandment that was entrusted to them.
22 En él se cumple lo que dice justamente el proverbio: El perro volvió a comer lo que había vomitado, y este otro: «La puerca recién lavada se revuelca en el barro».	22 What they have done is exactly as the proverb rightly says: The dog goes back to its vomit and: Assoon as the sow has been washed, it wal ows in the mud.
