Deuteronomio 18

EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS	CATHOLIC PUBLIC DOMAIN
1 Los sacerdotes levitas –o sea, toda la tribu de Levi– no tendrán parte ni herencia con los israelitas: ellos se alimentarán de las ofrendas destinadas a los sacrificios y de la herencia del Señor.	1 “The priests and the Levites, and all who are from the same tribe, shall have no portion or inheritance with the rest of Israel. For they shall eat the sacrifices of the Lord and his oblations.
2 Por lo tanto, esta tribu no poseerá una herencia en medio de sus hermanos: su herencia es el Señor, como él mismo se lo ha declarado.	2 And they shall receive nothing else from the possession of their brothers. For the Lord himself is their inheritance, just as he said to them.
3 Los derechos de los sacerdotes sobre las personas que ofrecen en sacrificio un animal del ganado mayor o menor son los siguientes: se dará al sacerdote la espalda, las quijadas y el estómago.	3 This shall be the recompense for the priests from the people, and from those who offer victims, whether they will immolate an ox or a sheep. They shall give to the priest the shoulder and the breast,
4 También le darás las primicias de tu trigo, de tu vino y de tu aceite, y las primicias de la esquila de tu ganado menor.	4 the first-fruits of grain, wine, and oil, and a portion of the wool from the shearing of the sheep.
5 Porque el Señor, tu Dios, eligió al sacerdote y a sus hijos, entre todas tus tribus, para que siempre estuviera en su presencia y oficiara en nombre del Señor.	5 For the Lord your God himself has chosen him out of all your tribes, so that he may stand and minister to the name of the Lord, him and his sons, forever.
6 Si un levita que reside en cualquier parte del Israel, se traslada por voluntad propia de una de tus ciudades al lugar que elija el Señor, su Dios,	6 If a Levite departs from one of the cities, throughout all of Israel, in which he lives, and if he wills and desires to go to the place which the Lord will choose,
7 podrá oficiar allí en nombre del Señor como todos sus hermanos levitas que están en la presencia del Señor.	7 he shall minister in the name of the Lord his God, as do all his brothers, the Levites, who will be standing at that time in the sight of the Lord.
8 Y comerá una porción igual a la de ellos además de lo que obtenga por la venta de sus bienes patrimoniales.	8 He shall receive the same portion of food as the rest also receive, besides that which is due to him in his own city, by succession from his fathers.
9 Cuando entre en la tierra que el Señor, tu Dios, te dará, no aprendas a practicar las abominaciones que cometen esas naciones.	9 When you will have entered into the land which the Lord your God will give to you, be careful that you are not willing to imitate the abominations of those nations.
10 Que no haya entre ustedes nadie que inmole en el fuego a su hijo o a su hija, ni practique la adivinación, la astrología, la magia o la hechicería.	10 Do not let there be found among you one who would purify his son or daughter by leading them through fire, nor one who consults seers, nor one who observes dreams or omens. Do not let there be found among you one who practices the occult,
11 Tampoco hará ningún encantador, ni consultor de espectros o de espíritus, ni evocador de muertos.	11 nor one who uses spells, nor one who consults demonic spirits, nor a diviner, nor one who seeks the truth from the dead.
12 Porque todo el que practica estas cosas es abominable al Señor, tu Dios, y por causa de estas abominaciones. él desposeerá a esos pueblos delante de ti.	12 For the Lord abominates all these things. And, because of these wicked ways, he will destroy them at your arrival.
13 Tú serás irreprochable en tu trato con el Señor, tu Dios.	13 You shall be perfect and without blemish with the Lord your God.
14 Porque las naciones que vas a desposeer escuchan a los astrólogos y adivinos, pero a ti el Señor no te permite semejante cosa.	14 These nations, whose land you shall possess, they listen to soothsayers and diviners. But you have been otherwise instructed by the Lord your God.
15 El Señor, tu Dios, te suscitará un profeta como yo; lo harás surgir de entre ustedes, de entre tus hermanos, y es a él a quien escucharán.	15 The Lord your God will raise up for you a PROPHET from your nation and from your brothers, similar to me. You shall listen to him,
16 Esto es precisamente lo que pediste al Señor. Tu Dios, en el Horeb, el día de la asamblea, cuando dijiste: «No quiero seguir escuchando la voz del Señor, mi Dios, ni miraré más este gran fuego, porque de lo contrario moriré».	16 just as you petitioned of the Lord your God at Horeb, when the assembly was gathered together, and you said: ‘Let me no longer hear the voice of the Lord my God, and let me no longer see this very great fire, lest I die.’
17 Entonces el Señor me dijo: «Lo que acaban de decir está muy bien.	17 And the Lord said to me: ‘They have spoken all these things well.
18 Por eso, suscitaré entre sus hermanos un profeta semejante a ti, pondré mis palabras en su boca, y él dirá todo lo que yo le ordene.	18 I will raise up a prophet for them, from the midst of their brothers, similar to you. And I will place my words in his mouth, and he will speak to them all the things that I will instruct him.
19 Al que no escuche mis palabras, las que este profeta pronuncie en mi Nombre, yo mismo le pediré cuenta.	19 But against anyone who is not willing to listen to his words, which he will speak in my name, I will stand forth as the avenger.
20 Y si un profeta se atreve a pronunciar en mi Nombre una palabra que yo no le he ordenado decir, o si habla en nombre de otros dioses, ese profeta morirá».	20 But if a prophet, having been corrupted by arrogance, chooses to speak, in my name, things which I did not instruct him to say, or to speak in the name of foreign gods, he shall be put to death.
21 Tal vez te preguntes: «¿Cómo sabremos que tal palabra no la ha pronunciado el Señor?».	21 But if, in silent thought, you respond: “How will I be able to recognize a word which the Lord has not spoken?”
22 Si lo que el profeta decide en nombre del Señor no se cumple y queda sin efecto, quiere decir que el Señor no ha dicho esa palabra. El profeta ha hablado temerariamente: no le temas.	22 you shall have this sign. If whatever that prophet predicts in the name of the Lord does not happen, then the Lord has not spoken it. Instead, the prophet has formed it through the swelling of his own mind. And for this reason, you shall not fear him.’ ”
