Lucas 4

EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Jesús, lleno del Espíritu Santo, regresó de las orillas del Jordán y fue conducido por el Espíritu al desierto,	1 Fil ed with the Holy Spirit, Jesus left the Jordan and was led by the Spirit into the desert,
2 donde fue tentado por el demonio durante cuarenta días. No comió nada durante esos días, y al cabo de ellos tuvo hambre.	2 for forty days being put to the test by the devil. During that time he ate nothing and at the end he washungry.
3 El demonio le dijo entonces: «Si tú eres Hijo de Dios, manda a esta piedra que se convierta en pan».	3 Then the devil said to him, 'If you are Son of God, tel this stone to turn into a loaf.'
4 Pero Jesús le respondió: «Dice la Escritura: "El hombre no vive solamente de pan"».	4 But Jesus replied, 'Scripture says: Human beings live not on bread alone.'
5 Luego el demonio lo llevó a un lugar más alto, le mostró en un instante todos los reinos de la tierra	5 Then leading him to a height, the devil showed him in a moment of time al the kingdoms of the world
6 y le dijo: «Te daré todo este poder y esplendor de estos reinos, porque me han sido entregados, y yo los doy a quien quiero.	6 and said to him, 'I wil give you al this power and their splendour, for it has been handed over to me, forme to give it to anyone I choose.
7 Si tú te postras delante de mí, todo eso te pertenecerá».	7 Do homage, then, to me, and it shal al be yours.'
8 Pero Jesús le respondió: «Está escrito: "Adorarás al Señor, tu Dios, y a él solo rendirás culto"».	8 But Jesus answered him, 'Scripture says: You must do homage to the Lord your God, him alone youmust serve.'
9 Después el demonio lo condujo a Jerusalén, lo puso en la parte más alta del Templo y le dijo: «Si tú eres Hijo de Dios, tírate de aquí abajo,	9 Then he led him to Jerusalem and set him on the parapet of the Temple. 'If you are Son of God,' he saidto him, 'throw yourself down from here,
10 porque está escrito: "El dará órdenes a sus ángeles para que ellos te cuiden".	10 for scripture says: He has given his angels orders about you, to guard you, and again:
11 Y también: "Ellos te llevarán en sus manos para que tu pie no tropiece con ninguna piedra"».	11 They wil carry you in their arms in case you trip over a stone.'
12 Pero Jesús le respondió: «Está escrito: "No tentarás al Señor, tu Dios"».	12 But Jesus answered him, 'Scripture says: Do not put the Lord your God to the test.'
13 Una vez agotadas todas las formas de tentación, el demonio se alejó de él, hasta el momento oportuno.	13 Having exhausted every way of putting him to the test, the devil left him, until the opportune moment.
14 Jesús volvió a Galilea con el poder el Espíritu y su fama se extendió en toda la región.	14 Jesus, with the power of the Spirit in him, returned to Galilee; and his reputation spread throughout thecountryside.
15 Enseñaba en las sinagogas y todos lo alababan.	15 He taught in their synagogues and everyone glorified him.
16 Jesús fue a Nazaret, donde se había criado; el sábado entró como de costumbre en la sinagoga y se levantó para hacer la lectura.	16 He came to Nazara, where he had been brought up, and went into the synagogue on the Sabbath dayas he usually did. He stood up to read,
17 Le presentaron el libro del profeta Isaías y, abriéndolo, encontró el pasaje donde estaba escrito:	17 and they handed him the scrol of the prophet Isaiah. Unrol ing the scrol he found the place where it iswritten:
18 "El Espíritu del Señor está sobre mí, porque me ha consagrado por la unción. El me envió a llevar la Buena Noticia a los pobres, a anunciar la liberación a los cautivos y la vista a los ciegos, a dar la libertad a los oprimidos	18 The spirit of the Lord is on me, for he has anointed me to bring the good news to the afflicted. He hassent me to proclaim liberty to captives, sight to the blind, to let the oppressed go free,
19 y proclamar un año de gracia del Señor".	19 to proclaim a year of favour from the Lord.
20 Jesús cerró el Libro, lo devolvió al ayudante y se sentó. Todos en la sinagoga tenían los ojos fijos en él.	20 He then rol ed up the scrol , gave it back to the assistant and sat down. And all eyes in the synagogue were fixed on him.
21 Entonces comenzó a decirles: «Hoy se ha cumplido este pasaje de la Escritura que acaban de oír».	21 Then he began to speak to them, 'This text is being fulfilled today even while you are listening.'
22 Todos daban testimonio a favor de él y estaban llenos de admiración por las palabras de gracia que salían de su boca. Y decían: «¿No es este el hijo de José?».	22 And he won the approval of all, and they were astonished by the gracious words that came from hislips. They said, 'This is Joseph's son, surely?'
23 Pero él les respondió: «Sin duda ustedes me citarán el refrán: "Médico, cúrate a ti mismo". Realiza también aquí, en tu patria, todo lo que hemos oído que sucedió en Cafarnaúm».	23 But he replied, 'No doubt you will quote me the saying, "Physician, heal yourself," and tel me, "We have heard al that happened in Capernaum, do the same here in your own country." '
24 Después agregó: «Les aseguro que ningún profeta es bien recibido en su tierra.	24 And he went on, 'In truth I tel you, no prophet is ever accepted in his own country.
25 Yo les aseguro que había muchas viudas en Israel en el tiempo de Elías, cuando durante tres años y seis meses no hubo lluvia del cielo y el hambre azotó a todo el país.	25 'There were many widows in Israel, I can assure you, in Elijah's day, when heaven remained shut forthree years and six months and a great famine raged throughout the land,
26 Sin embargo, a ninguna de ellas fue enviado Elías, sino a una viuda de Sarepta, en el país de Sidón.	26 but Elijah was not sent to any one of these: he was sent to a widow at Zarephath, a town in Sidonia.
27 También había muchos leprosos en Israel, en el tiempo del profeta Eliseo, pero ninguno de ellos fue curado, sino Naamán, el sirio».	27 And in the prophet Elisha's time there were many suffering from virulent skin-diseases in Israel, butnone of these was cured -- only Naaman the Syrian.'
28 Al oír estas palabras, todos los que estaban en la sinagoga se enfurecieron	28 When they heard this everyone in the synagogue was enraged.
29 y, levantándose, lo empujaron fuera de la ciudad, hasta un lugar escarpado de la colina sobre la que se levantaba la ciudad, con intención de despeñarlo.	29 They sprang to their feet and hustled him out of the town; and they took him up to the brow of the hilltheir town was built on, intending to throw him off the cliff,
30 Pero Jesús, pasando en medio de ellos, continuó su camino.	30 but he passed straight through the crowd and walked away.
31 Jesús bajó a Cafarnaúm, ciudad de Galilea, y enseñaba los sábados.	31 He went down to Capernaum, a town in Galilee, and taught them on the Sabbath.
32 Y todos estaban asombrados de su enseñanza, porque hablaba con autoridad.	32 And his teaching made a deep impression on them because his word carried authority.
33 En la sinagoga había un hombre que estaba poseído por el espíritu de un demonio impuro; y comenzó a gritar con fuerza;	33 In the synagogue there was a man possessed by the spirit of an unclean devil, and he shouted at thetop of his voice,
34 «¿Qué quieres de nosotros, Jesús Nazareno? ¿Has venido para acabar con nosotros? Ya sé quién eres: el Santo de Dios».	34 'Ha! What do you want with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who youare: the Holy One of God.'
35 Pero Jesús lo increpó, diciendo: «Cállate y sal de este hombre». El demonio salió de él, arrojándolo al suelo en medio de todos. sin hacerle ningún daño.	35 But Jesus rebuked it, saying, 'Be quiet! Come out of him!' And the devil, throwing the man into themiddle, went out of him without hurting him at all.
36 El temor se apoderó de todos, y se decían unos a otros: «¿Qué tiene su palabra? ¡Manda con autoridad y poder a los espíritus impuros, y ellos salen!».	36 Astonishment seized them and they were al saying to one another, 'What is it in his words? He givesorders to unclean spirits with authority and power and they come out.'
37 Y su fama se extendía por todas partes en aquella región.	37 And the news of him travel ed al through the surrounding countryside.
38 Al salir de la sinagoga, entró en la casa de Simón. La suegra de Simón tenía mucha fiebre, y le pidieron que hiciera algo por ella.	38 Leaving the synagogue he went to Simon's house. Now Simon's mother-in-law was in the grip of ahigh fever and they asked him to do something for her.
39 Inclinándose sobre ella, Jesús increpó a la fiebre y esta desapareció. En seguida, ella se levantó y se puso a servirlos.	39 Standing over her he rebuked the fever and it left her. And she immediately got up and began to servethem.
40 Al atardecer, todos los que tenían enfermos afectados de diversas dolencias se los llevaron, y él, imponiendo las manos sobre cada uno de ellos, los curaba.	40 At sunset al those who had friends suffering from diseases of one kind or another brought them tohim, and laying his hands on each he cured them.
41 De muchos salían demonios, gritando: «Tú eres el Hijo de Dios!». Pero él los increpaba y no los dejaba hablar, porque ellos sabían que era el Mesías.	41 Devils too came out of many people, shouting, 'You are the Son of God.' But he warned them andwould not al ow them to speak because they knew that he was the Christ.
42 Cuando amaneció, Jesús salió y se fue a un lugar desierto. La multitud comenzó a buscarlo y, cuando lo encontraron, querían retenerlo para que no se alejara de ellos.	42 When daylight came he left the house and made his way to a lonely place. The crowds went to look forhim, and when they had caught up with him they wanted to prevent him leaving them,
43 Pero él les dijo: «También a las otras ciudades debo anunciar la Buena Noticia del Reino de Dios, porque para eso he sido enviado».	43 but he answered, 'I must proclaim the good news of the kingdom of God to the other towns too,because that is what I was sent to do.'
44 Y predicaba en las sinagogas de toda la Judea.	44 And he continued his proclamation in the synagogues of Judaea.
