Marcos 4

EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Jesús comenzó a enseñar de nuevo a orillas del mar. Una gran multitud se reunió junto a él, de manera que debió subir a una barca dentro del mar, y sentarse en ella. Mientras tanto, la multitud estaba en la orilla.	1 Again he began to teach them by the lakeside, but such a huge crowd gathered round him that he gotinto a boat on the water and sat there. The whole crowd were at the lakeside on land.
2 El les enseñaba muchas cosas por medio de parábolas, y esto era lo que les enseñaba:	2 He taught them many things in parables, and in the course of his teaching he said to them,
3 «¡Escuchen! El sembrador salió a sembrar.	3 'Listen! Imagine a sower going out to sow.
4 Mientras sembraba, parte de la semilla cayó al borde del camino, y vinieron los pájaros y se la comieron.	4 Now it happened that, as he sowed, some of the seed fell on the edge of the path, and the birds cameand ate it up.
5 Otra parte cayó en terreno rocoso, donde no tenía mucha tierra, y brotó en seguida porque la tierra era poco profunda;	5 Some seed fell on rocky ground where it found little soil and at once sprang up, because there was nodepth of earth;
6 pero cuando salió el sol, se quemó y, por falta de raíz, se secó.	6 and when the sun came up it was scorched and, not having any roots, it withered away.
7 Otra cayó entre las espinas; estas crecieron, la sofocaron, y no dio fruto.	7 Some seed fell into thorns, and the thorns grew up and choked it, and it produced no crop.
8 Otros granos cayeron en buena tierra y dieron fruto: fueron creciendo y desarrollándose, y rindieron ya el treinta, ya el sesenta, ya el ciento por uno».	8 And some seeds fell into rich soil, grew tal and strong, and produced a good crop; the yield was thirty,sixty, even a hundredfold.'
9 Y decía: «¡El que tenga oídos para oír, que oiga!».	9 And he said, 'Anyone who has ears for listening should listen!'
10 Cuando se quedó solo, los que estaban alrededor de él junto con los Doce, le preguntaban por el sentido de las parábolas.	10 When he was alone, the Twelve, together with the others who formed his company, asked what theparables meant.
11 Y Jesús les decía: «A ustedes se les ha confiado el misterio del Reino de Dios; en cambio, para los de afuera, todo es parábola,	11 He told them, 'To you is granted the secret of the kingdom of God, but to those who are outsideeverything comes in parables,
12 a fin de que miren y no vean, oigan y no entiendan, no sea que se conviertan y alcancen el perdón».	12 so that they may look and look, but never perceive; listen and listen, but never understand; to avoidchanging their ways and being healed.'
13 Jesús les dijo: «¿No entienden esta parábola? ¿Cómo comprenderán entonces todas las demás?	13 He said to them, 'Do you not understand this parable? Then how will you understand any of theparables?
14 El sembrador siembra la Palabra.	14 What the sower is sowing is the word.
15 Los que están al borde del camino, son aquellos en quienes se siembra la Palabra; pero, apenas la escuchan, viene Satanás y se lleva la semilla sembrada en ellos.	15 Those on the edge of the path where the word is sown are people who have no sooner heard it thanSatan at once comes and carries away the word that was sown in them.
16 Igualmente, los que reciben la semilla en terreno rocoso son los que, al escuchar la Palabra, la acogen en seguida con alegría;	16 Similarly, those who are sown on patches of rock are people who, when first they hear the word,welcome it at once with joy.
17 pero no tienen raíces, sino que son inconstantes y, en cuanto sobreviene la tribulación o la persecución a causa de la Palabra, inmediatamente sucumben.	17 But they have no root deep down and do not last; should some trial come, or some persecution onaccount of the word, at once they fal away.
18 Hay otros que reciben la semilla entre espinas: son los que han escuchado la Palabra,	18 Then there are others who are sown in thorns. These have heard the word,
19 pero las preocupaciones del mundo, la seducción de las riquezas y las demás concupiscencias penetran en ellos y ahogan la Palabra, y esta resulta infructuosa.	19 but the worries of the world, the lure of riches and al the other passions come in to choke the word,and so it produces nothing.
20 Y los que reciben la semilla en tierra buena, son los que escuchan la Palabra, la aceptan y dan fruto al treinta, al sesenta y al ciento por uno».	20 And there are those who have been sown in rich soil; they hear the word and accept it and yield aharvest, thirty and sixty and a hundredfold.'
21 Jesús les decía: «¿Acaso se trae una lámpara para ponerla debajo de un cajón o debajo de la cama? ¿No es más bien para colocarla sobre el candelero?.	21 He also said to them, 'Is a lamp brought in to be put under a tub or under the bed? Surely to be put onthe lamp-stand?
22 Porque no hay nada oculto que no deba ser revelado y nada secreto que no deba manifestarse.	22 For there is nothing hidden, but it must be disclosed, nothing kept secret except to be brought to light.
23 ¡Si alguien tiene oídos para oír, que oiga!».	23 Anyone who has ears for listening should listen!'
24 Y les decía: «¡Presten atención a lo que oyen! La medida con que midan se usará para ustedes, y les darán más todavía.	24 He also said to them, 'Take notice of what you are hearing. The standard you use wil be used for you-- and you wil receive more besides;
25 Porque al que tiene, se le dará, pero al que no tiene, se le quitará aun lo que tiene».	25 anyone who has, will be given more; anyone who has not, wil be deprived even of what he has.'
26 Y decía: «El Reino de Dios es como un hombre que echa la semilla en la tierra:	26 He also said, 'This is what the kingdom of God is like. A man scatters seed on the land.
27 sea que duerma o se levante, de noche y de día, la semilla germina y va creciendo, sin que él sepa cómo.	27 Night and day, while he sleeps, when he is awake, the seed is sprouting and growing; how, he doesnot know.
28 La tierra por sí misma produce primero un tallo, luego una espiga, y al fin grano abundante en la espiga.	28 Of its own accord the land produces first the shoot, then the ear, then the full grain in the ear.
29 Cuando el fruto está a punto, él aplica en seguida la hoz, porque ha llegado el tiempo de la cosecha».	29 And when the crop is ready, at once he starts to reap because the harvest has come.'
30 También decía: «¿Con qué podríamos comparar el Reino de Dios? ¿Qué parábola nos servirá para representarlo?	30 He also said, 'What can we say that the kingdom is like? What parable can we find for it?
31 Se parece a un grano de mostaza. Cuando se la siembra, es la más pequeña de todas las semillas de la tierra,	31 It is like a mustard seed which, at the time of its sowing, is the smal est of al the seeds on earth.
32 pero, una vez sembrada, crece y llega a ser la más grande de todas las hortalizas, y extiende tanto sus ramas que los pájaros del cielo se cobijan a su sombra».	32 Yet once it is sown it grows into the biggest shrub of them al and puts out big branches so that thebirds of the air can shelter in its shade.'
33 Y con muchas parábolas como estas les anunciaba la Palabra, en la medida en que ellos podían comprender.	33 Using many parables like these, he spoke the word to them, so far as they were capable ofunderstanding it.
34 No les hablaba sino en parábolas, pero a sus propios discípulos, en privado, les explicaba todo.	34 He would not speak to them except in parables, but he explained everything to his disciples when theywere by themselves.
35 Al atardecer de ese mismo día, les dijo: «Crucemos a la otra orilla».	35 With the coming of evening that same day, he said to them, 'Let us cross over to the other side.'
36 Ellos, dejando a la multitud, lo llevaron a la barca, así como estaba. Había otras barcas junto a la suya.	36 And leaving the crowd behind they took him, just as he was, in the boat; and there were other boatswith him.
37 Entonces se desató un fuerte vendaval, y las olas entraban en la barca, que se iba llenando de agua.	37 Then it began to blow a great gale and the waves were breaking into the boat so that it was almostswamped.
38 Jesús estaba en la popa, durmiendo sobre el cabezal.	38 But he was in the stern, his head on the cushion, asleep.
39 Lo despertaron y le dijeron: «¡Maestro! ¿No te importa que nos ahoguemos?». Despertándose, él increpó al viento y dijo al mar: «¡Silencio! ¡Cállate!». El viento se aplacó y sobrevino una gran calma.	39 They woke him and said to him, 'Master, do you not care? We are lost!' And he woke up and rebukedthe wind and said to the sea, 'Quiet now! Be calm!' And the wind dropped, and there followed a great calm.
40 Después les dijo: «¿Por qué tienen miedo? ¿Cómo no tienen fe?».	40 Then he said to them, 'Why are you so frightened? Have you stil no faith?'
41 Entonces quedaron atemorizados y se decían unos a otros: «¿Quién es este, que hasta el viento y el mar le obedecen».	41 They were overcome with awe and said to one another, 'Who can this be? Even the wind and the seaobey him.'
