EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS	KING JAMES BIBLE
1 Luego los israelitas reanudaron la marcha y fueron a acampar en las estepas de Moab, el otro lado del Jordán, a la altura de Jericó.	1 And the children of Israel set forward, and pitched in the plains of Moab on this side Jordan by Jericho.
2 Balac, hijo de Sipor, vio todo lo que los israelitas habían hecho a los amorreos,	2 And Balak the son of Zippor saw all that Israel had done to the Amorites.
3 y los moabitas sintieron un gran temor a la vista de ese pueblo tan numeroso. Atemorizados por la presencia de los israelitas,	3 And Moab was sore afraid of the people, because they were many: and Moab was distressed because of the children of Israel.
4 los moabitas dijeron a los ancianos de Madián: «Ahora esta turba va a devorarlo todo a nuestro alrededor como un buey devora la hierba del campo». Entonces Balac, hijo de Sipor, que era rey de Moab en aquel tiempo,	4 And Moab said unto the elders of Midian, Now shall this company lick up all that are round about us, as the ox licketh up the grass of the field. And Balak the son of Zippor was king of the Moabites at that time.
5 envió unos mensajeros a Balaam, hijo de Beor –que vivía en Petor, junto al Eufrates, en el país en Petor, junto al Eufrates, en el país de los descendientes de Amav– para que le hicieran esta invitación: «Un pueblo que salió de Egipto y cubrió toda la tierra se ha establecido frente a mí.	5 He sent messengers therefore unto Balaam the son of Beor to Pethor, which is by the river of the land of the children of his people, to call him, saying, Behold, there is a people come out from Egypt: behold, they cover the face of the earth, and they abide over against me:
6 Ven, por favor, y maldíceme a este pueblo, porque es más fuerte que yo. Tal vez así podré derrotarlo y expulsarlo del país. Porque yo sé que el que tú bendices, queda bendecido, y el que maldices, queda maldecido».	6 Come now therefore, I pray thee, curse me this people; for they are too mighty for me: peradventure I shall prevail, that we may smite them, and that I may drive them out of the land: for I wot that he whom thou blessest is blessed, and he whom thou cursest is cursed.
7 Los ancianos de Moab y de Madián partieron, llevando la retribución para el adivino. Cuando se presentaron a Balaam y le transmitieron el mensaje de Balac,	7 And the elders of Moab and the elders of Midian departed with the rewards of divination in their hand; and they came unto Balaam, and spake unto him the words of Balak.
8 Balaam les respondió: «Pasen aquí la noche, y yo les daré la respuesta que el Señor me inspire». Entonces los jefes de Moab se quedaron con Balaam.	8 And he said unto them, Lodge here this night, and I will bring you word again, as the LORD shall speak unto me: and the princes of Moab abode with Balaam.
9 Pero Dios se manifestó a Balaam y le dijo: «¿Quiénes son esos hombres que están contigo?».	9 And God came unto Balaam, and said, What men are these with thee?
10 Balaam respondió a Dios: «Balac, hijo de Sipor, rey de Moab, me envió este mensaje:	10 And Balaam said unto God, Balak the son of Zippor, king of Moab, hath sent unto me, saying,
11 «Aquí hay un pueblo que salió de Egipto y cubrió toda la tierra. Por eso, ven a maldecírmelo. Tal vez así podré combatir contra él y expulsarlo».	11 Behold, there is a people come out of Egypt, which covereth the face of the earth: come now, curse me them; peradventure I shall be able to overcome them, and drive them out.
12 Dios dijo a Balaam: «No vayas con ellos ni maldigas a ese pueblo, porque está bendecido».	12 And God said unto Balaam, Thou shalt not go with them; thou shalt not curse the people: for they are blessed.
13 A la mañana siguiente, Balaam se levantó y dijo a los jefes enviados por Balac: «Vuélvanse a su país, porque el Señor me prohíbe acompañarlos».	13 And Balaam rose up in the morning, and said unto the princes of Balak, Get you into your land: for the LORD refuseth to give me leave to go with you.
14 Entonces los jefes de Moab partieron, y cuando estuvieron de regreso dijeron a Balac: «Balaam se niega a venir con nosotros».	14 And the princes of Moab rose up, and they went unto Balak, and said, Balaam refuseth to come with us.
15 Entonces Balac envió otros jefes, más numerosos y distinguidos que los primeros.	15 And Balak sent yet again princes, more, and more honourable than they.
16 Ellos se presentaron a Balaam y le dijeron: «Así habla Balac, hijo de Sipor: «Por favor, no te niegues a venir en mi ayuda.	16 And they came to Balaam, and said to him, Thus saith Balak the son of Zippor, Let nothing, I pray thee, hinder thee from coming unto me:
17 Yo te colmaré de honores y haré todo lo que me digas. Te ruego que vengas y me maldigas a este pueblo».	17 For I will promote thee unto very great honour, and I will do whatsoever thou sayest unto me: come therefore, I pray thee, curse me this people.
18 Pero Balaam respondió a los servidores de Balac: «Aunque Balac me diera su casa llena de planta y oro, yo no podría transgredir, ni siguiera en lo más mínimo, una orden del Señor, mi Dios.	18 And Balaam answered and said unto the servants of Balak, If Balak would give me his house full of silver and gold, I cannot go beyond the word of the LORD my God, to do less or more.
19 Con todo, quédense aquí también ustedes esta noche, y veré qué me dice el Señor esta vez».	19 Now therefore, I pray you, tarry ye also here this night, that I may know what the LORD will say unto me more.
20 Durante la noche, Dios se manifestó a Balaam y le dijo: «Si esta gente ha venido a buscarte, puedes ir con ellos. Pero no hagas nada fuera de lo que yo te ordene».	20 And God came unto Balaam at night, and said unto him, If the men come to call thee, rise up, and go with them; but yet the word which I shall say unto thee, that shalt thou do.
21 Por la mañana, Balaam se levantó, ensilló su asna y partió junto con los jefes de Moab.	21 And Balaam rose up in the morning, and saddled his ass, and went with the princes of Moab.
22 Pero su partida encendió la ira de Dios, y el Angel del Señor se interpuso en el camino para cerrarle el paso. Balaam iba montado en su asna y lo acompañaban dos muchachos.	22 And God's anger was kindled because he went: and the angel of the LORD stood in the way for an adversary against him. Now he was riding upon his ass, and his two servants were with him.
23 Cuando el asna vio al Angel del Señor parado en el camino, con la espada desenvainada en su mano, se apartó y se fue por el campo. Pero Balaam la castigó para hacerla volver al camino.	23 And the ass saw the angel of the LORD standing in the way, and his sword drawn in his hand: and the ass turned aside out of the way, and went into the field: and Balaam smote the ass, to turn her into the way.
24 El Angel del Señor se paró entonces en un sendero angosto, que pasaba por los viñedos y estaba rodeado de los dos lados por un cerco.	24 But the angel of the LORD stood in a path of the vineyards, a wall being on this side, and a wall on that side.
25 Al verlo, el asna se fue contra el cerco y apretó el pie de Balaam que la castigó nuevamente.	25 And when the ass saw the angel of the LORD, she thrust herself unto the wall, and crushed Balaam's foot against the wall: and he smote her again.
26 Una vez más, el Angel del Señor se adelantó y fue a colocarse en un lugar tan estrecho, que imposible desviarse a la derecha o a la izquierda.	26 And the angel of the LORD went further, and stood in a narrow place, where was no way to turn either to the right hand or to the left.
27 Cuando el asna lo vio, se echó al suelo debajo de Balaam, y este, enfurecido, la golpeó con su bastón.	27 And when the ass saw the angel of the LORD, she fell down under Balaam: and Balaam's anger was kindled, and he smote the ass with a staff.
28 Entonces el Señor abrió la boca del asna, y ella, dijo a Balaam: «¿Qué te hice para que me golpearas así tres veces?».	28 And the LORD opened the mouth of the ass, and she said unto Balaam, What have I done unto thee, that thou hast smitten me these three times?
29 «¡Te estás burlando de mí!, respondió Balaam. Si tuviera una espada en mi mano, te mataría ahora mismo».	29 And Balaam said unto the ass, Because thou hast mocked me: I would there were a sword in mine hand, for now would I kill thee.
30 El asna le respondió: «¿Acaso yo no soy tu asna, la que siempre has montado hasta el día de hoy? ¿Acostumbro yo a tratarte de ese modo?». El respondió: «No».	30 And the ass said unto Balaam, Am not I thine ass, upon which thou hast ridden ever since I was thine unto this day? was I ever wont to do so unto thee? And he said, Nay.
31 El Señor abrió los ojos de Balaam, y este vio al Angel del Señor parado en la camino, con la espada desenvainada en su mano; se inclinó y lo adoró con el rostro en tierra.	31 Then the LORD opened the eyes of Balaam, and he saw the angel of the LORD standing in the way, and his sword drawn in his hand: and he bowed down his head, and fell flat on his face.
32 El Angel del Señor le dijo: «¿Por qué le has pegado tres veces a tu asna? Era yo el que te cerraba el paso, porque tu viaje me disgusta.	32 And the angel of the LORD said unto him, Wherefore hast thou smitten thine ass these three times? behold, I went out to withstand thee, because thy way is perverse before me:
33 Ella me vio y se apartó de mí tres veces. Hizo muy bien en apartarse, porque de los contrario yo te hubiera matado, mientras que a ella la hubiera dejado con vida».	33 And the ass saw me, and turned from me these three times: unless she had turned from me, surely now also I had slain thee, and saved her alive.
34 Balaam dijo al Angel del Señor: «He pecado, porque no sabía que tú estabas apostado delante de mí en el camino. Si esto te desagrada, ahora mismo regreso».	34 And Balaam said unto the angel of the LORD, I have sinned; for I knew not that thou stoodest in the way against me: now therefore, if it displease thee, I will get me back again.
35 El Angel del Señor respondió a Balaam: «Ve con estos hombres, pero dirás solamente lo que yo te indique». Y Balaam se fue con los jefes que le había enviado Balac.	35 And the angel of the LORD said unto Balaam, Go with the men: but only the word that I shall speak unto thee, that thou shalt speak. So Balaam went with the princes of Balak.
36 Cuando Balac supo que Balaam estaba por llegar, fue a encontrarlo en Ar Moab, sobre la frontera del Arnón, en el límite de su territorio,	36 And when Balak heard that Balaam was come, he went out to meet him unto a city of Moab, which is in the border of Arnon, which is in the utmost coast.
37 y le dijo: «Yo te mandé a llamar urgentemente. ¿Por qué no querías venir? ¿Acaso no dispongo de medios para colmarte de honores?».	37 And Balak said unto Balaam, Did I not earnestly send unto thee to call thee? wherefore camest thou not unto me? am I not able indeed to promote thee to honour?
38 Entonces Balaam respondió a Balac: «Aquí me tienes. Pero, ¿qué puedo decir yo ahora? Sólo diré la palabra que Dios ponga en mi boca».	38 And Balaam said unto Balak, Lo, I am come unto thee: have I now any power at all to say any thing? the word that God putteth in my mouth, that shall I speak.
39 Luego Balaam se fue con Balac. Llegados a Quiriat Jusot,	39 And Balaam went with Balak, and they came unto Kirjath-huzoth.
40 Balac inmoló vacas y ovejas y se las envió a Balaam y lo hizo subir a Bamot Baal, desde donde pudo ver a una parte del pueblo.	40 And Balak offered oxen and sheep, and sent to Balaam, and to the princes that were with him.
	41 And it came to pass on the morrow, that Balak took Balaam, and brought him up into the high places of Baal, that thence he might see the utmost part of the people.
