Amós 5

EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS	NEW AMERICAN BIBLE
1 Escuchen esta palabra que yo pronuncio contar ustedes, es un canto fúnebre, casa de Israel:	1 Hear this word which I utter over you, a lament, O house of Israel:
2 Ha caído y no volverá a levantarse la virgen de Israel; yace postrada sobre su suelo y nadie la levanta.	2 She is fallen, to rise no more, the virgin Israel; She lies abandoned upon her land, with no one to raise her up.
3 Porque así habla el Señor, a la casa de Israel: De la ciudad que sale a combatir con mil hombres quedarán sólo cien, y de la que sale con cien no quedarán más que diez para la casa de Israel.	3 For thus says the Lord GOD: The city that marched out with a thousand shall be left without a hundred, Another that marched out with a hundred shall be left with ten, of the house of Israel.
4 Así habla el Señor a la casa de Israel: Búsquenme a mí, y vivirán.	4 For thus says the LORD to the house of Israel: Seek me, that you may live,
5 No busquen a Betel, no vayan a Guilgal, no pasen a Berseba, porque Guilgal irá cautiverio y Betel se reducirá a nada.	5 but do not seek Bethel; Do not come to Gilgal, and do not cross to Beer-sheba. For Gilgal shall be led into exile, and Bethel shall become nought.
6 Busquen al Señor y vivirán, no sea que él caiga como fuego sobre la casa de José, y devore a Betel, sin que nadie lo apague.	6 Seek the LORD, that you may live, lest he come upon the house of Joseph like a fire That shall consume, with none to quench it for the house of Israel:
7 ¡Ay de los que convierten el derecho en veneno y echan por tierra la justicia!	7 Woe to those who turn judgment to wormwood and cast justice to the ground!
8 El que hace las Pléyades y el Orión, el que cambia las tinieblas en aurora y la luz del día en oscuridad, el que convoca a las aguas del mar y las derrama sobre la tierra, se llama «el Señor».	8 He who made the Pleiades and Orion, who turns darkness into dawn, and darkens day into night; Who summons the waters of the sea, and pours them out upon the surface of the earth;
9 El desencadena la ruina sobre la fortaleza y la ruina alcanza a la plaza fuerte.	9 Who flashes destruction upon the strong, and brings ruin upon the fortress; whose name is LORD.
10 ¡Ay de los que aborrecen al que recrimina en la Puerta y detestan al que habla con integridad!	10 They hate him who reproves at the gate and abhor him who speaks the truth.
11 Por eso, por haber esquilmado al débil, exigiéndole un tributo de grano, esas casas de piedras talladas que ustedes construyeron, no las habitarán, de esas viñas selectas que plantaron, no beberán el vino.	11 Therefore, because you have trampled upon the weak and exacted of them levies of grain, Though you have built houses of hewn stone, you shall not live in them! Though you have planted choice vineyards, you shall not drink their wine!
12 Porque yo conozco la multitud de sus crímenes y la enormidad de sus pecados, ¡opresores del justo, que exigen rescate y atropellan a los pobres en la Puerta!	12 Yes, I know how many are your crimes, how grievous your sins: Oppressing the just, accepting bribes, repelling the needy at the gate!
13 Por eso, el hombre sensato se calla en este tiempo, porque es un tiempo de desgracia.	13 Therefore the prudent man is silent at this time, for it is an evil time.
14 Busquen el bien y no el mal, para que tengan vida, y así el Señor, Dios de los ejércitos, estará con ustedes, como ustedes dicen.	14 Seek good and not evil, that you may live; Then truly will the LORD, the God of hosts, be with you as you claim!
15 Aborrezcan el mal, amen el bien, y hagan triunfar el derecho en la Puerta: tal vez el Señor, Dios de los ejércitos, tenga piedad del resto de José.	15 Hate evil and love good, and let justice prevail at the gate; Then it may be that the LORD, the God of hosts, will have pity on the remnant of Joseph.
16 Por eso, así habla el Señor, Dios de los ejércitos: Habrá lamentaciones en todas las plazas y gemidos en todas las calles. Convocarán a los campesinos para el duelo y a las plañideras para los lamentos.	16 Therefore, thus says the LORD, the God of hosts, the Lord: In every square there shall be lamentation, and in every street they shall cry, Alas! Alas! They shall summon the farmers to wail and professional mourners to lament,
17 Habrá lamentaciones en todas las viñas, cuando yo pase en medio de ti, dice el Señor.	17 And in every vineyard there shall be lamentation when I pass through your midst, says the LORD.
18 ¡Ay de los que suspiran por el Día del señor! ¿Qué será para ustedes el Día del Señor? ¡Será tinieblas y no luz!	18 Woe to those who yearn for the day of the LORD! What will this day of the LORD mean for you? Darkness and not light!
19 Como cuando alguien huye de un león y se topa con un oso; o al entrar en su casa, apoya su mano contra la pared y lo muerde una serpiente...	19 As if a man went to flee from a lion, and a bear should meet him; Or as if on entering his house he were to rest his hand against the wall, and a snake should bite him.
20 ¡El Día del Señor será tinieblas y no luz, será oscuro, sin ningún resplandor!	20 Will not the day of the LORD be darkness and not light, gloom without any brightness?
21 Yo aborrezco, desprecio sus fiestas, y me repugnan sus asambleas.	21 I hate, I spurn your feasts, I take no pleasure in your solemnities;
22 Cuando ustedes me ofrecen holocaustos, no me complazco en sus ofrendas ni miro sus sacrificios de terneros cebados.	22 Your cereal offerings I will not accept, nor consider your stall-fed peace offerings.
23 Aleja de mí el bullicio de tus cantos, no quiero oír el sonido de tus arpas.	23 Away with your noisy songs! I will not listen to the melodies of your harps. But if you would offer me holocausts,
24 Que el derecho corra como el agua, y la justicia como un torrente inagotable.	24 then let justice surge like water, and goodness like an unfailing stream.
25 ¿Acaso ustedes me ofrecieron sacrificios y oblaciones en el desierto durante cuarenta años, casa de Israel?	25 Did you bring me sacrifices and offerings for forty years in the desert, O house of Israel?
26 Ustedes se llevarán a Sicut, su rey, y a Queván, su dios estelar, esos ídolos que se han fabricado,	26 You will carry away Sakkuth, your king, and Kaiwan, your star god, the images that you have made for yourselves;
27 porque yo los deportaré más allá de Damasco, dice el Señor, cuyo nombre es «Dios de los ejércitos».	27 For I will exile you beyond Damascus, say I, the LORD, the God of hosts by name.
