EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Ella despliega su fuerza de un extremo hasta el otro, y todo lo administra de la mejor manera.	1 Strongly she reaches from one end of the world to the other and she governs the whole world for itsgood.
2 Yo la amé y la busqué desde mi juventud, traté de tomarla por esposa y me enamoré de su hermosura.	2 Wisdom I loved and searched for from my youth; I resolved to have her as my bride, I fel in love withher beauty.
3 Su intimidad con Dios hace resaltar la nobleza de su origen, porque la amó el Señor de todas las cosas.	3 She enhances her noble birth by sharing God's life, for the Master of Al has always loved her.
4 Está iniciada en la ciencia de Dios y es ella la que elige sus obras.	4 Indeed, she shares the secrets of God's knowledge, and she chooses what he wil do.
5 Si la riqueza es un bien deseable en la vida, ¿qué cosa es más rica que la Sabiduría que todo lo hace?	5 If in this life wealth is a desirable possession, what is more wealthy than Wisdom whose work iseverywhere?
6 Si la prudencia es la que obra, ¿quién más que ella es artífice de todo lo que existe?	6 Or if it be the intel ect that is at work, who, more than she, designs whatever exists?
7 ¿Amas la justicia? El fruto de sus esfuerzos son las virtudes, porque ella enseña la templanza y la prudencia, la justicia y la fortaleza, y nada es más útil que esto para los hombres en la vida.	7 Or if it be uprightness you love, why, virtues are the fruit of her labours, since it is she who teachestemperance and prudence, justice and fortitude; nothing in life is more useful for human beings.
8 ¿Deseas, además, tener mucha experiencia? Ella conoce el pasado y puede prever el porvenir, interpreta las máximas y descifra los enigmas, conoce de antemano las señales y los prodigios, la sucesión de las épocas y de los tiempos.	8 Or if you are eager for wide experience, she knows the past, she forecasts the future; she knows how toturn maxims, and solve riddles; she has foreknowledge of signs and wonders, and of the unfolding of the agesand the times.
9 Yo decidí tomarla por compañera de mi vida, sabiendo que ella sería mi consejera para el bien y mi aliento en las preocupaciones y la tristeza.	9 I therefore determined to take her to share my life, knowing that she would be my counsel or inprosperity and comfort me in cares and sorrow.
10 Gracias a ella, alcanzaré gloria entre la gente, y aun siendo joven, seré honrado por los ancianos.	10 'Thanks to her, I shal be admired by the masses and honoured, though young, by the elders.
11 Me encontrarán perspicaz en el ejercicio de la justicia, y seré admirado en presencia de los grandes.	11 I shall be reckoned shrewd as a judge, and the great wil be amazed at me.
12 Si me callo, estarán a la expectativa, si hablo, me prestarán atención, si mi discurso se prolonga, permanecerán en silencio.	12 They wil wait on my silences, and pay attention when I speak; if I speak at some length, they wil laytheir hand on their lips.
13 Gracias a ella, alcanzaré la inmortalidad y dejaré a la posteridad un recuerdo eterno;	13 By means of her, immortality wil be mine, I shal leave an everlasting memory to my successors.
14 gobernaré a los pueblos, y las naciones me estarán sometidas;	14 I shall govern peoples, and nations wil be subject to me;
15 terribles tiranos quedarán aterrados al oír hablar de mí; me mostraré bondadoso con mi pueblo y valiente en la guerra.	15 at the sound of my name fearsome despots will be afraid; I shal show myself kind to the people andvaliant in battle.
16 Al volver a mi casa, descansaré junto a ella, porque su compañía no causa amargura, ni dolor su intimidad, sino sólo placer y alegría.	16 'When I go home I shal take my ease with her, for nothing is bitter in her company, when life is sharedwith her there is no pain, nothing but pleasure and joy.'
17 Al reflexionar sobre estas cosas, y considerando en mi corazón que en la familiaridad con la Sabiduría está la inmortalidad,	17 Having meditated on al this, and having come to the conclusion that immortality resides in kinship withWisdom,
18 en su amistad, un gozo honesto, en los trabajos de sus manos, inagotables riquezas, en su trato asiduo, la prudencia, y en la comunicación con ella, la celebridad, yo iba por todas partes, tratando de poseerla.	18 noble contentment in her friendship, inexhaustible riches in her activities, understanding in cultivatingher society, and renown in conversing with her, I went al ways, seeking how to get her.
19 Yo era un muchacho naturalmente bueno y había recibido un alma bondadosa,	19 I was a boy of happy disposition, I had received a good soul as my lot,
20 o más bien, siendo bueno, vine a un cuerpo sin mancha;	20 or rather, being good, I had entered an undefiled body;
21 pero comprendiendo que no podía obtener la Sabiduría si Dios no me la concedía, y ya era un signo de prudencia saber de quién viene esta gracia, me dirigí al Señor y le supliqué, diciéndole de todo corazón:	21 but, realising that I could never possess Wisdom unless God gave her to me, -a sign of intel igence initself, to know in whose gift she lay -- I prayed to the Lord and entreated him, and with all my heart I said:
