Sabiduría 5

EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Entonces el justo se mantendrá de pie, completamente seguro frente a aquellos que lo oprimieron y despreciaron sus padecimientos.	1 Then the upright will stand up boldly to face those who had oppressed him and had thought so little of his sufferings.
2 Ellos, al verlo, serán presa de un terrible temor y quedarán desconcertados por lo imprevisto de su salvación.	2 And, seeing him, they wil be seized with terrible fear, amazed that he should have been sounexpectedly saved.
3 Llenos de remordimiento y lanzando gemidos se dirán unos a otros, con el espíritu angustiado:	3 Stricken with remorse, they wil say to one another with groans and labouring breath,
4 «Este es el que antes poníamos en ridículo y convertíamos en objeto de escarnio. ¡Insensatos de nosotros! Su vida nos parecía una locura y su fin una ignominia.	4 'This is the one whom we used to mock, making him the butt of our insults, fools that we were! His lifewe regarded as madness, his ending as without honour.
5 ¿Cómo ha sido incluido entre los hijos de Dios y participa de la herencia de los santos?	5 How has he come to be counted as one of the children of God and to have his lot among the holy ones?
6 ¡Qué lejos nos apartamos del camino de la verdad! La luz de la justicia nunca nos ha iluminado ni el sol ha salido para nosotros.	6 Clearly we have strayed from the way of truth; the light of justice has not shone for us, the sun has notrisen for us.
7 Nos hemos hartado de los senderos del mal y la perdición, hemos atravesado desiertos sin caminos, ¡pero no hemos conocido el camino del Señor!	7 We have left no path of lawlessness or ruin unexplored, we have crossed deserts where there was notrack, but the way of the Lord is one we have never known.
8 ¿De qué nos sirvió nuestra arrogancia? ¿De qué nos valió jactarnos de las riquezas?	8 What good has arrogance been to us? What has been the purpose of our riches and boastfulness?
9 Todo eso se desvaneció como una sombra, como una noticia fugaz;	9 Al those things have passed like a shadow, passed like a fleeting rumour.
10 como una nave que surca el mar agitado, sin que pueda descubrirse la huella de su paso ni la estela de su quilla entre las olas;	10 Like a ship that cuts through heaving waves -- leaving no trace to show where it has passed, no wakefrom its keel in the waves.
11 o como un pájaro que vuela por el aire sin dejar rastros de su trayecto: él golpea la brisa con el látigo de sus plumas y la corta con un agudo silbido, se abre camino batiendo las alas y después no queda ni una señal de su paso;	11 Or like a bird flying through the air -- leaving no proof of its passing; it whips the light air with the strokeof its pinions, tears it apart in its whirring rush, drives its way onward with sweeping wing, and afterwards no signis seen of its passage.
12 o como una flecha arrojada hacia el blanco: el aire desplazado vuelve en seguida a su lugar, y se ignora el camino que ella siguió.	12 Or like an arrow shot at a mark, the pierced air closing so quickly on itself, there is no knowing whichway the arrow has passed.
13 Así también nosotros, desaparecimos apenas nacidos y no tenemos para mostrar ninguna señal de virtud, porque nos hemos consumido en nuestra maldad».	13 So with us: scarcely born, we disappear; of virtue not a trace have we to show, we have spentourselves in our own wickedness!'
14 Sí, la esperanza del impío es como brizna llevada por el viento, como espuma ligera arrastrada por el huracán: ella se disipa como el humo por el viento, se desvanece como el recuerdo del huésped de un día.	14 For the hope of the godless is like chaff carried on the wind, like fine spray driven by the storm; itdisperses like smoke before the wind, goes away like the memory of a one-day guest.
15 Pero los justos viven para siempre; su recompensa está en el Señor y el Altísimo se preocupa de ellos.	15 But the upright live for ever, their recompense is with the Lord, and the Most High takes care of them.
16 Por eso, recibirán la espléndida realeza y la hermosa diadema de las manos del Señor; porque él nos protegerá con su mano derecha y los defenderá con su brazo.	16 So they wil receive the glorious crown and the diadem of beauty from the Lord's hand; for he wilshelter them with his right hand and with his arm he wil shield them.
17 Tomará su celo por armadura y armará a la creación para vengarse de sus enemigos;	17 For armour he will take his jealous love, he wil arm creation to punish his enemies;
18 vestirá como coraza la justicia, ceñirá como casco un juicio inapelable;	18 he wil put on justice as a breastplate, and for helmet wear his forthright judgement;
19 tomará como escudo su santidad invencible,	19 he wil take up invincible holiness for shield,
20 afilará como una espada su ira inexorable, y el universo luchará a su lado contra los insensatos.	20 of his pitiless wrath he will forge a sword, and the universe wil march with him to fight the reckless.
21 Los rayos partirán como disparos certeros: de las nubes, como de un arco bien tenso, volarán hacia el blanco;	21 Bolts truly aimed, the shafts of lightning wil leap, and from the clouds, as from a ful -drawn bow, fly totheir mark;
22 una ballesta arrojará una furiosa granizada, las olas del mar se encresparán contra ellos y los ríos los sumergirán sin piedad;	22 and the catapult wil hurl hailstones charged with fury. The waters of the sea wil rage against them,the rivers engulf them without pity,
23 un viento impetuoso se levantará contra ellos y los aventará como un huracán. Así la iniquidad devastará toda la tierra y la maldad derribará los tronos de los poderosos.	23 a mighty gale wil rise against them and winnow them like a hurricane. Thus wickedness wil lay thewhole earth waste and evil-doing bring down the thrones of the mighty.
