EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS	NEW AMERICAN BIBLE
1 Jacob llamó a sus hijos y les habló en estos términos: «Reúnanse, para que yo les anuncie lo que les va a suceder en el futuro:	1 Jacob called his sons and said: "Gather around, that I may tell you what is to happen to you in days to come.
2 Reúnanse y escuchen, hijos de Jacob, oigan a Israel, su padre.	2 "Assemble and listen, sons of Jacob, listen to Israel, your father.
3 ¡Tú, Rubén, mi primogénito, mi fuerza y el primer fruto de mi vigor, el primero en dignidad, y el primero en poder!	3 "You, Reuben, my first-born, my strength and the first fruit of my manhood, excelling in rank and excelling in power!
4 Desbordado como las aguas, ya no tendrás la primacía, porque subiste al lecho de tu padre, y, al subir, lo profanaste.	4 Unruly as water, you shall no longer excel, for you climbed into your father's bed and defiled my couch to my sorrow.
5 Simeón y Leví son hermanos, sus cuchillos son instrumentos de violencia.	5 "Simeon and Levi, brothers indeed, weapons of violence are their knives.
6 Que yo no entre en sus reuniones, ni me una a su asamblea, porque en su ira mataron hombres y mutilaron toros por capricho.	6 Let not my soul enter their council, or my spirit be joined with their company; For in their fury they slew men, in their willfulness they maimed oxen.
7 Maldita sea su ira tan violenta y su furor tan feroz. Yo los repartiré en el país de Jacob y los dispersaré en Israel.	7 Cursed be their fury so fierce, and their rage so cruel! I will scatter them in Jacob, disperse them throughout Israel.
8 A ti, Judá, te alabarán tus hermanos, tomarás a tus enemigos por la nuca y los hijos de tu padre se postrarán ante ti.	8 "You, Judah, shall your brothers praise --your hand on the neck of your enemies; the sons of your father shall bow down to you.
9 Judá es un cachorro de león, –¡Has vuelto de la matanza, hijo mío!– Se recuesta, se tiende como un león, como una leona: ¿quién lo hará levantar?	9 Judah, like a lion's whelp, you have grown up on prey, my son. He crouches like a lion recumbent, the king of beasts--who would dare rouse him?
10 El cetro no se apartará de Judá ni el bastón de mando de entre sus piernas, hasta que llegue aquel a quien le pertenece y a quien los pueblos deben obediencia.	10 The scepter shall never depart from Judah, or the mace from between his legs, While tribute is brought to him, and he receives the people's homage.
11 El ata su asno a una vid, su asno de pura raza a la cepa más escogida; lava su ropa en el vino y su manto en la sangre de las uvas.	11 He tethers his donkey to the vine, his purebred ass to the choicest stem. In wine he washes his garments his robe in the blood of grapes.
12 Sus ojos están oscurecidos por el vino, y sus dientes blanqueados por la leche.	12 His eyes are darker than wine, and his teeth are whiter than milk.
13 Zabulón habitará en la ribera del mar, que servirá de puerto a las naves, y sus fronteras llegarán hasta Sidón.	13 "Zebulun shall dwell by the seashore (This means a shore for ships), and his flank shall be based on Sidon.
14 Isacar en un asno vigoroso, recostado entre sus alforjas.	14 "Issachar is a rawboned ass, crouching between the saddlebags.
15 Al ver que el lugar de reposo es bueno y el país muy agradable, doblega sus espaldas a la carga y se somete a un trabajo servil	15 When he saw how good a settled life was, and how pleasant the country, He bent his shoulder to the burden and became a toiling serf.
16 Dan juzgará a su pueblo como una de las tribus de Israel	16 "Dan shall achieve justice for his kindred like any other tribe of Israel.
17 El es una serpiente junto al camino, una víbora junto al sendero, que muerde los talones del caballo, y así el jinete cae de espaldas.	17 Let Dan be a serpent by the roadside, a horned viper by the path, That bites the horse's heel, so that the rider tumbles backward.
18 ¡Señor, yo espero tu salvación!	18 "(I long for your deliverance, O LORD!)
19 Bandas de salteadores asaltarán a Gad, pero él, a su vez, los asaltará por detrás.	19 "Gad shall be raided by raiders, but he shall raid at their heels.
20 Aser tendrá comidas deliciosas y ofrecerá manjares de reyes.	20 "Asher's produce is rich, and he shall furnish dainties for kings.

25 por el Dios de tu padre, que te socorre, por el Dios Todopoderoso, que te da sus bendiciones: bendiciones desde lo alto del cielo, bendiciones del océano que se extiende por debajo, bendiciones de los pechos y del seno materno,	25 The God of your father, who helps you, God Almighty, who blesses you, With the blessings of the heavens above, the blessings of the abyss that crouches below, The blessings of breasts and womb,
26 bendiciones de las espigas y las flores, bendiciones de las montañas seculares, delicias de las colinas eternas. ¡Que desciendan sobre la cabeza de José, sobre la frente del consagrado entre sus hermanos!	26 the blessings of fresh grain and blossoms, The blessings of the everlasting mountains, the delights of the eternal hills. May they rest on the head of Joseph, on the brow of the prince among his brothers.
27 Benjamín es un lobo rapaz: por la mañana devora la presa, y a la tarde divide los despojos».	27 "Benjamin is a ravenous wolf; mornings he devours the prey, and evenings he distributes the spoils."
28 Todas estas eran las tribus de Israel –doce en total– y esto es lo que su padre dijo de ellas cuando las bendijo, dándole a cada una su bendición.	28 All these are the twelve tribes of Israel, and this is what their father said about them, as he bade them farewell and gave to each of them an appropriate message.
29 Luego les dio esta orden: «Yo estoy a punto de ir a reunirme con los míos. Entiérrenme junto con mis padres, en la caverna que está en el campo de Efrón, el hitita,	29 Then he gave them this charge: "Since I am about to be taken to my kindred, bury me with my fathers in the cave that lies in the field of Ephron the Hittite,
30 en el campo de Macpelá, frente a Mamré, en la tierra de Canaán, el campo que Abraham compró a Efrón, el hitita, para tenerlo como sepulcro familiar.	30 the cave in the field of Machpelah, facing on Mamre, in the land of Canaan, the field that Abraham bought from Ephron the Hittite for a burial ground.
31 Allí fueron enterrados Isaac y Rebeca, su esposa; y allí también sepulté a Lía.	31 There Abraham and his wife Sarah are buried, and so are Isaac and his wife Rebekah, and there, too, I buried Leah--
32 Ese campo y la caverna que hay en él fueron comprados a los hititas».	32 the field and the cave in it that had been purchased from the Hittites."
33 Cuando Jacob terminó de dar esta orden a sus hijos, recogió sus pies en el lecho, expiró y fue a reunirse con los suyos.	33 When Jacob had finished giving these instructions to his sons, he drew his feet into the bed, breathed his last, and was taken to his kindred.
