Hechos de los Apóstoles 15

BIBLIA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Bajaron algunos de Judea que enseñaban a los hermanos: «Si no os circuncidáis conforme a la costumbre mosaica, no podéis salvaros».	1 Then some men came down from Judaea and taught the brothers, 'Unless you have yourselvescircumcised in the tradition of Moses you cannot be saved.'
2 Se produjo con esto una agitación y una discusión no pequeña de Pablo y Bernabé contra ellos; y decidieron que Pablo y Bernabé y algunos de ellos subieran a Jerusalén, donde los apóstoles y presbíteros, para tratar esta cuestión.	2 This led to disagreement, and after Paul and Barnabas had had a long argument with these men it wasdecided that Paul and Barnabas and others of the church should go up to Jerusalem and discuss the questionwith the apostles and elders.
3 Ellos, pues, enviados por la Iglesia, atravesaron Fenicia y Samaria, contando la conversión de los gentiles y produciendo gran alegría en todos los hermanos.	3 The members of the church saw them off, and as they passed through Phoenicia and Samaria theytold how the gentiles had been converted, and this news was received with the greatest satisfaction by al thebrothers.
4 Llegados a Jerusalén fueron recibidos por la Iglesia y por los apóstoles y presbíteros, y contaron cuanto Dios había hecho juntamente con ellos.	4 When they arrived in Jerusalem they were welcomed by the church and by the apostles and elders,and gave an account of al that God had done through them.
5 Pero algunos de la secta de los fariseos, que habían abrazado la fe, se levantaron para decir que era necesario circuncidar a los gentiles y mandarles guardar la Ley de Moisés.	5 But certain members of the Pharisees' party who had become believers objected, insisting that gentilesshould be circumcised and instructed to keep the Law of Moses.
6 Se reunieron entonces los apóstoles y presbíteros para tratar este asunto.	6 The apostles and elders met to look into the matter,
7 Después de una larga discusión, Pedro se levantó y les dijo: «Hermanos, vosotros sabéis que ya desde los primeros días me eligió Dios entre vosotros para que por mi boca oyesen los gentiles la Palabra de la Buena Nueva y creyeran.	7 and after a long discussion, Peter stood up and addressed them. 'My brothers,' he said, 'you knowperfectly wel that in the early days God made his choice among you: the gentiles were to learn the good newsfrom me and so become believers.
8 Y Dios, conocedor de los corazones, dio testimonio en su favor comunicándoles el Espíritu Santo como a nosotros;	8 And God, who can read everyone's heart, showed his approval of them by giving the Holy Spirit tothem just as he had to us.
9 y no hizo distinción alguna entre ellos y nosotros, pues purificó sus corazones con la fe.	9 God made no distinction between them and us, since he purified their hearts by faith.
10 ¿Por qué, pues, ahora tentáis a Dios queriendo poner sobre el cuello de los discípulos un yugo que ni nuestros padres ni nosotros pudimos sobrellevar?	10 Why do you put God to the test now by imposing on the disciples the very burden that neither ourancestors nor we ourselves were strong enough to support?
11 Nosotros creemos más bien que nos salvamos por la gracia del Señor Jesús, del mismo modo que ellos».	11 But we believe that we are saved in the same way as they are: through the grace of the Lord Jesus.'
12 Toda la asamblea calló y escucharon a Bernabé y a Pablo contar todas las señales y prodigios que Dios había realizado por medio de ellos entre los gentiles.	12 The entire assembly fell silent, and they listened to Barnabas and Paul describing al the signs andwonders God had worked through them among the gentiles.
13 Cuando terminaron de hablar, tomó Santiago la palabra y dijo: «Hermanos, escuchadme.	13 When they had finished it was James who spoke. 'My brothers,' he said, 'listen to me.
14 Simeón ha referido cómo Dios ya al principio intervino para procurarse entre los gentiles un pueblo para su Nombre.	14 Simeon has described how God first arranged to enlist a people for his name out of the gentiles.
15 Con esto concuerdan los oráculos de los Profetas, según está escrito:	15 This is entirely in harmony with the words of the prophets, since the scriptures say:
16 «Después de esto volveré y reconstruiré la tienda de David que está caída; reconstruiré sus ruinas, y la volveré a levantar.	16 After that I shal return and rebuild the fal en hut of David; I shal make good the gaps in it and restoreit.
17 Para que el resto de los hombres busque al Señor, y todas las naciones que han sido consagradas a mi nombre, dice el Señor que hace	17 Then the rest of humanity, and of al the nations once cal ed mine, will look for the Lord, says the Lordwho made this
18 que estas cosas sean conocidas desde la eternidad.	18 known so long ago.
19 «Por esto opino yo que no se debe molestar a los gentiles que se conviertan a Dios,	19 'My verdict is, then, that instead of making things more difficult for gentiles who turn to God,
20 sino escribirles que se abstengan de lo que ha sido contaminado por los ídolos, de la impureza, de los animales estrangulados y de la sangre.	20 we should send them a letter tel ing them merely to abstain from anything polluted by idols, from il icitmarriages, from the meat of strangled animals and from blood.
21 Porque desde tiempos antiguos Moisés tiene en cada ciudad sus predicadores y es leído cada sábado en las sinagogas».	21 For Moses has always had his preachers in every town and is read aloud in the synagogues everySabbath.'
22 Entonces decidieron los apóstoles y presbíteros, de acuerdo con toda la Iglesia, elegir de entre ellos algunos hombres y enviarles a Antioquía con Pablo y Bernabé; y estos fueron Judas, llamado Barsabás, y Silas, que eran dirigentes entre los hermanos.	22 Then the apostles and elders, with the whole church, decided to choose delegates from amongthemselves to send to Antioch with Paul and Barnabas. They chose Judas, known as Barsabbas, and Silas, bothleading men in the brotherhood,
23 Por su medio les enviaron esta carta: «Los apóstoles y los presbíteros hermanos, saludan a los hermanos venidos de la gentilidad que están en Antioquía, en Siria y en Cilicia.	23 and gave them this letter to take with them: 'The apostles and elders, your brothers, send greetings tothe brothers of gentile birth in Antioch, Syria and Cilicia.
24 Habiendo sabido que algunos de entre nosotros, sin mandato nuestro, os han perturbado con sus palabras, trastornando vuestros ánimos,	24 We hear that some people coming from here, but acting without any authority from ourselves, havedisturbed you with their demands and have unsettled your minds;
25 hemos decidido de común acuerdo elegir algunos hombres y enviarlos donde vosotros, juntamente con nuestros queridos Bernabé y Pablo,	25 and so we have decided unanimously to elect delegates and to send them to you with our wel -beloved Barnabas and Paul,
26 que son hombres que han entregado su vida a la causa de nuestro Señor Jesucristo.	26 who have committed their lives to the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
27 Enviamos, pues, a Judas y Silas, quienes os expondrán esto mismo de viva voz:	27 Accordingly we are sending you Judas and Silas, who wil confirm by word of mouth what we havewritten.
28 Que hemos decidido el Espíritu Santo y nosotros no imponeros más cargas que éstas indispensables:	28 It has been decided by the Holy Spirit and by ourselves not to impose on you any burden beyondthese essentials:
29 abstenerse de lo sacrificado a los ídolos, de la sangre, de los animales estrangulados y de la impureza. Haréis bien en guardaros de estas cosas. Adiós».	29 you are to abstain from food sacrificed to idols, from blood, from the meat of strangled animals andfrom illicit marriages. Avoid these, and you wil do what is right. Farewel .'
30 Ellos, después de despedirse, bajaron a Antioquía, reunieron la asamblea y entregaron la carta.	30 The party left and went down to Antioch, where they summoned the whole community and deliveredthe letter.
31 La leyeron y se gozaron al recibir aquel aliento.	31 The community read it and were delighted with the encouragement it gave them.
32 Judas y Silas, que eran también profetas, exhortaron con un largo discurso a los hermanos y les confortaron.	32 Judas and Silas, being themselves prophets, spoke for a long time, encouraging and strengtheningthe brothers.
33 Pasado algún tiempo, fueron despedidos en paz por los hermanos para volver a los que los habían enviado.	33 These two spent some time there, and then the brothers wished them peace andwent back to thosewho had sent them.

35 Pablo y Bernabé se quedaron en Antioquía enseñando y anunciando, en compañía de otros muchos, la Buena Nueva, la palabra del Señor.	35 Paul and Barnabas, however, stayed on in Antioch, and there with many others they taught andproclaimed the good news, the word of the Lord.
36 Al cabo de algunos días dijo Pablo a Bernabé: «Volvamos ya a ver cómo les va a los hermanos en todas aquellas ciudades en que anunciamos la palabra del Señor».	36 On a later occasion Paul said to Barnabas, 'Let us go back and visit the brothers in all the townswhere we preached the word of the Lord, so that we can see how they are doing.'
37 Bernabé quería llevar también con ellos a Juan, llamado Marcos.	37 Barnabas suggested taking John Mark,
38 Pablo, en cambio, pensaba que no debían llevar consigo al que se había separado de ellos en Panfilia y no les había acompañado en la obra.	38 but Paul was not in favour of taking along the man who had deserted them in Pamphylia and hadrefused to share in their work.
39 Se produjo entonces una tirantez tal que acabaron por separarse el uno del otro: Bernabé tomó consigo a Marcos y se embarcó rumbo a Chipre;	39 There was sharp disagreement so that they parted company, and Barnabas sailed off with Mark toCyprus.
40 por su parte Pablo eligió por compañero a Silas y partió, encomendado por los hermanos a la gracia de Dios.	40 Before Paul left, he chose Silas to accompany him and was commended by the brothers to the graceof God.
41 Recorrió Siria y Cilicia consolidando las Iglesias».	41 He travel ed through Syria and Cilicia, consolidating the churches.
