BIBLIA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Llegada la mañana, todos los sumos sacerdotes y los ancianos del pueblo celebraron consejo contra Jesús para darle muerte.	1 When morning came, al the chief priests and the elders of the people met in council to bring about thedeath of Jesus.
2 Y después de atarle, le llevaron y le entregaron al procurador Pilato.	2 They had him bound and led him away to hand him over to Pilate, the governor.
3 Entonces Judas, el que le entregó, viendo que había sido condenado, fue acosado por el remordimiento, y devolvió las treinta monedas de plata a los sumos sacerdotes y a los ancianos,	3 When he found that Jesus had been condemned, then Judas, his betrayer, was fil ed with remorse andtook the thirty silver pieces back to the chief priests and elders
4 diciendo: «Pequé entregando sangre inocente». Ellos dijeron: «A nosotros, ¿qué? Tú verás».	4 saying, 'I have sinned. I have betrayed innocent blood.' They replied, 'What is that to us? That is yourconcern.'
5 El tiró las monedas en el Santuario; después se retiró y fue y se ahorcó.	5 And flinging down the silver pieces in the sanctuary he made off, and went and hanged himself.
6 Los sumos sacerdotes recogieron las monedas y dijeron: «No es lícito echarlas en el tesoro de las ofrendas, porque son precio de sangre».	6 The chief priests picked up the silver pieces and said, 'It is against the Law to put this into the treasury;it is blood-money.'
7 Y después de deliberar, compraron con ellas el Campo del Alfarero como lugar de sepultura para los forasteros.	7 So they discussed the matter and with it bought the potter's field as a graveyard for foreigners,
8 Por esta razón ese campo se llamó «Campo de Sangre», hasta hoy.	8 and this is why the field is stil cal ed the Field of Blood.
9 Entonces se cumplió el oráculo del profeta Jeremías: «Y tomaron las treinta monedas de plata, cantidad en que fue apreciado aquel a quien pusieron precio algunos hijos de Israel,	9 The word spoken through the prophet Jeremiah was then fulfil ed: And they took the thirty silverpieces, the sum at which the precious One was priced by the children of Israel,
10 y las dieron por el Campo del Alfarero, según lo que me ordenó el Señor».	10 and they gave them for the potter's field, just as the Lord directed me.
11 Jesús compareció ante el procurador, y el procurador le preguntó: «¿Eres tú el Rey de los judíos?» Respondió Jesús: «Sí, tú lo dices».	11 Jesus, then, was brought before the governor, and the governor put to him this question, 'Are you theking of the Jews?' Jesus replied, 'It is you who say it.'
12 Y, mientras los sumos sacerdotes y los ancianos le acusaban, no respondió nada.	12 But when he was accused by the chief priests and the elders he refused to answer at al .
13 Entonces le dice Pilato: «¿No oyes de cuántas cosas te acusan?»	13 Pilate then said to him, 'Do you not hear how many charges they have made against you?'
14 Pero él a nada respondió, de suerte que el procurador estaba muy sorprendido.	14 But to the governor's amazement, he offered not a word in answer to any of the charges.
15 Cada Fiesta, el procurador solía conceder al pueblo la libertad de un preso, el que quisieran.	15 At festival time it was the governor's practice to release a prisoner for the people, anyone they chose.
16 Tenían a la sazón un preso famoso, llamado Barrabás.	16 Now there was then a notorious prisoner whose name was Barabbas.
17 Y cuando ellos estaban reunidos, les dijo Pilato: «¿A quién queréis que os suelte, a Barrabás o a Jesús, el llamado Cristo?»,	17 So when the crowd gathered, Pilate said to them, 'Which do you want me to release for you:Barabbas, or Jesus who is cal ed Christ?'
18 pues sabía que le habían entregado por envidia.	18 For Pilate knew it was out of jealousy that they had handed him over.
19 Mientras él estaba sentado en el tribunal, le mandó a decir su mujer: «No te metas con ese justo, porque hoy he sufrido mucho en sueños por su causa».	19 Now as he was seated in the chair of judgement, his wife sent him a message, 'Have nothing to dowith that upright man; I have been extremely upset today by a dream that I had about him.'
20 Pero los sumos sacerdotes y los ancianos lograron persuadir a la gente que pidiese la libertad de Barrabás y la muerte de Jesús.	20 The chief priests and the elders, however, had persuaded the crowd to demand the release ofBarabbas and the execution of Jesus.
21 Y cuando el procurador les dijo: «¿A cuál de los dos queréis que os suelte?», respondieron: «¡A Barrabás!»	21 So when the governor spoke and asked them, 'Which of the two do you want me to release for you?'they said, 'Barabbas.'
22 Díceles Pilato: «Y ¿qué voy a hacer con Jesús, el llamado Cristo?» Y todos a una: «¡Sea crucificado!» -	22 Pilate said to them, 'But in that case, what am I to do with Jesus who is cal ed Christ?' They al said,'Let him be crucified!'
23 «Pero ¿qué mal ha hecho?», preguntó Pilato. Mas ellos seguían gritando con más fuerza: «¡Sea crucificado!»	23 He asked, 'But what harm has he done?' But they shouted all the louder, 'Let him be crucified!'
24 Entonces Pilato, viendo que nada adelantaba, sino que más bien se promovía tumulto, tomó agua y se lavó las manos delante de la gente diciendo: «Inocente soy de la sangre de este justo. Vosotros veréis».	24 Then Pilate saw that he was making no impression, that in fact a riot was imminent. So he took somewater, washed his hands in front of the crowd and said, 'I am innocent of this man's blood. It is your concern.'
25 Y todo el pueblo respondió: «¡Su sangre sobre nosotros y sobre nuestros hijos!»	25 And the people, every one of them, shouted back, 'Let his blood be on us and on our children!'
26 Entonces, les soltó a Barrabás; y a Jesús, después de azotarle, se lo entregó para que fuera crucificado.	26 Then he released Barabbas for them. After having Jesus scourged he handed him over to becrucified.
27 Entonces los soldados del procurador llevaron consigo a Jesús al pretorio y reunieron alrededor de él a toda la cohorte.	27 Then the governor's soldiers took Jesus with them into the Praetorium and col ected the whole cohortround him.
28 Le desnudaron y le echaron encima un manto de púrpura;	28 And they stripped him and put a scarlet cloak round him,
29 y, trenzando una corona de espinas, se la pusieron sobre su cabeza, y en su mano derecha una caña; y doblando la rodilla delante de él, le hacían burla diciendo: «¡Salve, Rey de los judíos!»;	29 and having twisted some thorns into a crown they put this on his head and placed a reed in his righthand. To make fun of him they knelt to him saying, 'Hail, king of the Jews!'
30 y después de escupirle, cogieron la caña y le golpeaban en la cabeza.	30 And they spat on him and took the reed and struck him on the head with it.
31 Cuando se hubieron burlado de él, le quitaron el manto, le pusieron sus ropas y le llevaron a crucificarle.	31 And when they had finished making fun of him, they took off the cloak and dressed him in his ownclothes and led him away to crucifixion.
32 Al salir, encontraron a un hombre de Cirene llamado Simón, y le obligaron a llevar su cruz.	32 On their way out, they came across a man from Cyrene, cal ed Simon, and enlisted him to carry hiscross.
33 Llegados a un lugar llamado Gólgota, esto es, «Calvario»,	33 When they had reached a place cal ed Golgotha, that is, the place of the skul ,
34 le dieron a beber vino mezclado con hiel; pero él, después de probarlo, no quiso beberlo.	34 they gave him wine to drink mixed with gal , which he tasted but refused to drink.
35 Una vez que le crucificaron, se repartieron sus vestidos, echando a suertes.	35 When they had finished crucifying him they shared out his clothing by casting lots,
36 Y se quedaron sentados allí para custodiarle.	36 and then sat down and stayed there keeping guard over him.
37 Sobre su cabeza pusieron, por escrito, la causa de su condena: «Este es Jesús, el Rey de los judíos».	37 Above his head was placed the charge against him; it read: 'This is Jesus, the King of the Jews.'
38 Y al mismo tiempo que a él crucifican a dos salteadores, uno a la derecha y otro a la izquierda.	38 Then two bandits were crucified with him, one on the right and one on the left.
39 Los que pasaban por allí le insultaban, meneando la cabeza y diciendo:	39 The passers-by jeered at him; they shook their heads
40 «Tú que destruyes el Santuario y en tres días lo levantas, ¡sálvate a ti mismo, si eres Hijo de Dios, y baja de la cruz!»	40 and said, 'So you would destroy the Temple and in three days rebuild it! Then save yourself if you areGod's son and come down from the cross!'
41 Igualmente los sumos sacerdotes junto con los escribas y los ancianos se burlaban de él diciendo:	41 The chief priests with the scribes and elders mocked him in the same way,
42 «A otros salvó y a sí mismo no puede salvarse. Rey de Israel es: que baje ahora de la cruz, y creeremos en él.	42 with the words, 'He saved others; he cannot save himself. He is the king of Israel; let him come downfrom the cross now, and we wil believe in him.
43 Ha puesto su confianza en Dios; que le salve ahora, si es que de verdad le quiere; ya que dijo: “Soy Hijo de Dios.”»	43 He has put his trust in God; now let God rescue him if he wants him. For he did say, "I am God'sson." '
44 De la misma manera le injuriaban también los salteadores crucificados con él.	44 Even the bandits who were crucified with him taunted him in the same way.
45 Desde la hora sexta hubo oscuridad sobre toda la tierra hasta la hora nona.	45 From the sixth hour there was darkness over al the land until the ninth hour.
46 Y alrededor de la hora nona clamó Jesús con fuerte voz: «¡Elí, Elí! ¿lemá sabactaní?», esto es: «¡Dios mío, Dios mío! ¿por qué me has abandonado?»	46 And about the ninth hour, Jesus cried out in a loud voice, 'Eli, eli, lama sabachthani?' that is, 'MyGod, my God, why have you forsaken me?'
47 Al oírlo algunos de los que estaban allí decían: «A Elías llama éste».	47 When some of those who stood there heard this, they said, 'The man is cal ing on Elijah,'
48 Y enseguida uno de ellos fue corriendo a tomar una esponja, la empapó en vinagre y, sujetándola a una caña, le ofrecía de beber.	48 and one of them quickly ran to get a sponge which he fil ed with vinegar and, putting it on a reed,gave it him to drink.
49 Pero los otros dijeron: «Deja, vamos a ver si viene Elías a salvarle».	49 But the rest of them said, 'Wait! And see if Elijah wil come to save him.'
50 Pero Jesús, dando de nuevo un fuerte grito, exhaló el espíritu.	50 But Jesus, again crying out in a loud voice, yielded up his spirit.
51 En esto, el velo del Santuario se rasgó en dos, de arriba abajo; tembló la tierra y las rocas se hendieron.	51 And suddenly, the veil of the Sanctuary was torn in two from top to bottom, the earth quaked, therocks were split,
52 Se abrieron los sepulcros, y muchos cuerpos de santos difuntos resucitaron.	52 the tombs opened and the bodies of many holy people rose from the dead,
53 Y, saliendo de los sepulcros después de la resurrección de él, entraron en la Ciudad Santa y se aparecieron a muchos.	53 and these, after his resurrection, came out of the tombs, entered the holy city and appeared to anumber of people.
54 Por su parte, el centurión y los que con él estaban guardando a Jesús, al ver el terremoto y lo que pasaba, se llenaron de miedo y dijeron: «Verdaderamente éste era Hijo de Dios».	54 The centurion, together with the others guarding Jesus, had seen the earthquake and al that wastaking place, and they were terrified and said, 'In truth this man was son of God.'
55 Había allí muchas mujeres mirando desde lejos, aquellas que habían seguido a Jesús desde Galilea para servirle.	55 And many women were there, watching from a distance, the same women who had followed Jesusfrom Galilee and looked after him.
56 Entre ellas estaban María Magdalena, María la madre de Santiago y de José, y la madre de los hijos de Zebedeo.	56 Among them were Mary of Magdala, Mary the mother of James and Joseph, and the mother ofZebedee's sons.
57 Al atardecer, vino un hombre rico de Arimatea, llamado José, que se había hecho también discípulo de Jesús.	57 When it was evening, there came a rich man of Arimathaea, cal ed Joseph, who had himself becomea disciple of Jesus.
58 Se presentó a Pilato y pidió el cuerpo de Jesús. Entonces Pilato dio orden de que se le entregase.	58 This man went to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus. Then Pilate ordered it to be handed over.
59 José tomó el cuerpo, lo envolvió en una sábana limpia	59 So Joseph took the body, wrapped it in a clean shroud
60 y lo puso en su sepulcro nuevo que había hecho excavar en la roca; luego, hizo rodar una gran piedra hasta la entrada del sepulcro y se fue.	60 and put it in his own new tomb which he had hewn out of the rock. He then rol ed a large stoneacross the entrance of the tomb and went away.
61 Estaban allí María Magdalena y la otra María, sentadas frente al sepulcro.	61 Now Mary of Magdala and the other Mary were there, sitting opposite the sepulchre.
62 Al otro día, el siguiente a la Preparación, los sumos sacerdotes y los fariseos se reunieron ante Pilato	62 Next day, that is, when Preparation Day was over, the chief priests and the Pharisees went in a bodyto Pilate
63 y le dijeron: «Señor, recordamos que ese impostor dijo cuando aún vivía: “A los tres días resucitaré.”	63 and said to him, 'Your Excel ency, we recal that this impostor said, while he was still alive, "Afterthree days I shall rise again."
64 Manda, pues, que quede asegurado el sepulcro hasta el tercer día, no sea que vengan sus discípulos, lo roben y digan luego al pueblo: “Resucitó de entre los muertos”, y la última impostura sea peor que la primera».	64 Therefore give the order to have the sepulchre kept secure until the third day, for fear his disciplescome and steal him away and tel the people, "He has risen from the dead." This last piece of fraud would beworse than what went before.'
65 Pilato les dijo: «Tenéis una guardia. Id, aseguradlo como sabéis».	65 Pilate said to them, 'You may have your guard; go and make al as secure as you know how.'
66 Ellos fueron y aseguraron el sepulcro, sellando la piedra y poniendo la guardia.	66 So they went and made the sepulchre secure, putting seals on the stone and mounting a guard.
