BIBLIA	DOUAI-RHEIMS
1 Hubo hambre en el país - aparte de la primera que tuvo lugar en tiempo de Abraham - y fue Isaac a Guerar, a donde Abimélek, rey de los filisteos.	1 And when a famine came in the land, after that barrenness which had happened in the days of Abraham, Isaac went to Abimelech king of the Palestines to Gerara.
2 Yahveh se le apareció y le dijo: «No bajes a Egipto. Quédate en la tierra que yo te indique.	2 And the Lord appeared to him and said: Go not down into Egypt, but stay in the land that I shall tell thee.
3 Reside en esta tierra, y yo te asistiré y bendeciré; porque a ti y a tu descendencia he de dar todas estas tierras, y mantendré el juramento que hice a tu padre Abraham.	3 And sojourn in it, and I will be with thee, and will bless thee: for to thee and to thy seed I will give all these countries, to fulfill the oath which I swore to Abraham thy father.
4 Multiplicaré tu descendencia como las estrellas del cielo, y daré a tu descendencia todas estas tierras. Y por tu descendencia se bendecirán todas las naciones de la tierra,	4 And I will multiply thy seed like the stars of heaven: and I will give to thy posterity all these countries: and in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed.
5 en pago de que Abraham me obedeció y guardó mis observancias, mis mandamientos, mis preceptos y mis instrucciones.»	5 Because Abraham obeyed my voice, and kept my precepts and commandments, and observed my ceremonies and laws.
6 Establecióse, pues, Isaac en Guerar.	6 So Isaac abode in Gerara.
7 Los del lugar le preguntaban por su mujer, y él decía: «Es mi hermana.» En efecto, le daba reparo decir: «Es mi mujer», no fuesen a matarle los del lugar por causa de Rebeca, ya que ella era de buen ver.	7 And when he was asked by the men of that place, concerning his wife, he answered: She is my sister; for he was afraid to confess that she was his wife, thinking lest perhaps they would like him because of her beauty.
8 Ya llevaba largo tiempo allí, cuando aconteció que Abimélek, rey de los filisteos, atisbando por una ventana, observó que Isaac estaba solazándose con su mujer Rebeca.	8 And when very many days were passed, and he abode there, Abimelech king of the Palestines looking out through a window, saw him playing with Rebecca his wife.
9 Llama Abimélek a Isaac y le dice: ¡Con que es tu mujer! ¿Pues cómo has venido diciendo: Es mi hermana?» Dícele Isaac: «Es que me dije: A ver si voy a morir por causa de ella.»	9 And calling for him, he said: It is evident she is thy wife: why didst thou feign her to be thy sister? He answered: I feared lest I should die for her sake.
10 Replicó Abimélek: «¿Qué es lo que nos has hecho? Si por acaso llega a acostarse cualquiera del pueblo con tu mujer, tú nos habrías echado la culpa.»	10 And Abimelech said: Why hadst thou deceived us? Some man of the people might have lain with thy wife, and thou hadst brought upon us a great sin. And he commanded all the people, saying:
11 Entonces Abimélek ordenó a todo el pueblo: «Quien tocare a este hombre o a su mujer, morirá sin remedio.»	11 He that shall touch this man's wife, shall surely be put to death.
12 Isaac sembró en aquella tierra, y cosechó aquel año el ciento por uno. Yahveh le bendecía	12 And Isaac sowed in that land, and he found that same year a hundredfold: and the Lord blessed him.
13 y el hombre se enriquecía, se iba enriqueciendo más y más hasta que se hizo riquísimo.	13 And the man was enriched, and he went on prospering and increasing, till he became exceeding great:
14 Tenía rebaños de ovejas y vacadas y copiosa servidumbre. Los filisteos le tenían envidia.	14 And he had possessions of sheep and of herds, and a very great family. Wherefore the Palestines envying him,
15 Todos los pozos que habían cavado los siervos de su padre - en tiempos de su padre Abraham - los habían cegado los filisteos, llenándolos de tierra.	15 Stopped up at that time all the wells, that the servants of his father Abraham had digged, filling them up with earth:
16 Entonces Abimélek dijo a Isaac: «Apártate de nuestro lado, porque te has hecho mucho más poderoso que nosotros.»	16 Insomuch that Abimelech himself said to Isaac: Depart from us, for thou art become much mightier than we.
17 Isaac se fue de allí y acampó en la vaguada de Guerar, estableciéndose allí.	17 So he departed and came to the torrent of Gerara, to dwell there:
18 Isaac volvió a cavar los pozos de agua que habían cavado los siervos de su padre Abraham, y que los filisteos habían cegado después de la muerte de Abraham, y les puso los mismos nombres que les había puesto su padre.	18 And he digged again other wells, which the servants of his father Abraham had digged, and which, after his death, the Palestines had of old stopped up: and he called them by the same names by which his father before had called them.
19 Cavaron los siervos de Isaac en la vaguada y encontraron allí un pozo de aguas vivas.	19 And they digged in the torrent, and found living water.
20 Pero riñeron los pastores de Guerar con los pastores de Isaac, diciendo: «El agua es nuestra.» El llamó al pozo Eseq, ya que se habían querellado con él.	20 But there also the herdsmen of Gerara strove against the herdsmen of Isaac, saying: It is our water. Wherefore he called the name of the well, on occasion of that which had happened, Calumny.
21 Excavaron otro pozo, y también riñeron por él: lo llamó Sitná.	21 And they digged also another; and for that they quarreled likewise, and he called the name of it, Enmity.
22 Partió de allí y cavó otro pozo, y ya no riñeron por él: lo llamó Rejobot, y dijo: «Ahora Yahveh nos ha dado desahogo, y prosperaremos en esta tierra.	22 Going forward from thence, he digged another well, for which they contended not: therefore he called the name thereof, Latitude, saying: Now hath the Lord given us room, and made us to increase upon the earth.
23 De allí subió a Berseba.	23 And he went up from that place to Bersabee,
24 Yahveh se le apareció aquella noche y dijo: «Yo soy el Dios de tu padre Abraham. No temas, porque yo estoy contigo. Te bendeciré, y multiplicaré tu descendencia por amor de Abraham, mi siervo.»	24 Where the Lord appeared to him that same might, saying: I am the God of Abraham thy father; do not fear, for I am with thee: I will bless thee, and multiply thy seed for my servant Abraham's sake.
25 Allí construyó un altar e invocó el nombre de Yahveh. Allí desplegó su tienda, y los siervos de Isaac perforaron allí un pozo.	25 And he built there an altar: and called upon the name of the Lord, and pitched his tent: and commanded his servants to dig a well.
26 Entonces Abimélek fue a donde él desde Guerar, con Ajuzat, uno de sus familiares, y Pikol, capitán de su tropa.	26 To which place when Abimelech, and Ochozath his friend, and Phicol chief captain of his soldiers came from Gerara,
27 Díceles Isaac: «¿Cómo es que venís a mí. vosotros que me odiáis y me habéis echado de vuestra compañía?»	27 Isaac said to them: Why are ye come to me, a man whom you hate, and have thrust out from you?
28 Contestaron ellos: «Hemos visto claramente que Yahveh se ha puesto de tu parte, y hemos dicho: “Ea, haya un juramento entre nosotros, entre tú y nosotros, y vamos a hacer un pacto contigo,	28 And they answered: We saw that the Lord is with thee, and therefore we said: Let there be an oath between us, and let us make a covenant,
29 de que no nos harás mal, como tampoco nosotros te hemos tocado a ti; no te hemos hecho sino bien, y te hemos dejado ir en paz, ¡oh bendito de Yahveh!”»	29 That thou do us no harm, as we on our part have touched nothing of thine, nor have done any thing to hurt thee: but with peace have sent thee away increased with the blessing of the Lord.
30 El les dio un banquete, y comieron y bebieron.	30 And he made them a feast, and after they had eaten and drunk:
31 De madrugada, se levantaron y se hicieron mutuo juramento; luego Isaac les despidió, y se fueron en paz de su lado.	31 Arising in the morning, they swore one to another: and Isaac sent them away peaceably to their own home.
32 Aquel mismo día llegaron unos siervos de Isaac y le dieron la noticia del pozo que habían cavado, diciéndole: «Hemos hallado agua.»	32 And behold the same day the servants of Isaac came, telling him of a well which they had digged, and saying: We have found water.
33 El lo llamó Seba, de donde el nombre de la ciudad de Berseba, hasta la fecha.	33 Whereupon he called it Abundance: and the name of the city was called Bersabee, even to this day.
34 Cuando Esaú tenía cuarenta años, tomó por mujeres a Judit, hija de Beerí el hitita, y a Basmat, hija de Elón el hitita,	34 And Esau being forty years old, married wives, Judith the daughter of Beeri the Hethite, and Basemath the daughter of Elon of the same place.
35 las cuales fueron amargura para Isaac y Rebeca.	35 And they both offended the mind of Isaac and Rebecca.
