BIBBIA VOLGARE	NEW JERUSALEM
1 E dopo Abimelec si levò suso, per duca in Israel, Tola figliuolo di Fua fratello del padre di Abimelec, uomo d' Issacar, il quale abitò in Samir del monte di Efraim.	1 After Abimelech, Tola son of Puah, son of Dodo, rose to deliver Israel. He belonged to Issachar andlived at Shamir in the mountain country of Ephraim.
2 E giudicò (e resse) i figliuoli d' Israel XXIII anni; e morì, e fue sotterrato in Samir.	2 He was judge in Israel for twenty-three years; he then died and was buried at Shamir.
3 E dopo costui sì (fue e) venne Iair Galaadito (della città di Galaad), il quale sì giudicò (e resse) i figliuoli d'Israel per spazio di XXII anni.	3 After him rose Jair of Gilead, who judged Israel for twenty-two years.
4 Ed ebbe XXX figliuoli, i quali sedeano tutti sopra trenta poledri figliuoli d'asine; ed erano principi di trenta cittadi, le quali erano appellate (secondo il nome loro) AvOTIAIR, cioè le cittadi di Iair, insino al presente di d' oggi, nella terra di Galaad.	4 He had thirty sons who rode on thirty young donkeys and who owned thirty towns, stil known today asthe Encampments of Jair, in the territory of Gilead.
5 E morì Iair, e fue sotterrato in uno luogo il quale si chiama Camon.	5 Jair then died and was buried at Kamon.
6 I figliuoli d' Israel, a' peccati vecchii aggiugnendo i nuovi peccati, feceno male (dinanzi e) nel cospetto di Dio; però che servirono agli idoli di Baal e di Astarot, e agli dii di Siria e di Sidone e di Moab e de' figliuoli di Ammon, e a quelli de' Filistei; e lasciarono Iddio Signore vero, e non l'adorarono (e non gli facevano riverenza).	6 The Israelites again began doing what is evil in Yahweh's eyes. They served Baal and Astarte, and thegods of Aram and Sidon, the gods of Moab and those of the Ammonites and Philistines. They deserted Yahwehand served him no more.
7 Contro a' quali adirato Iddio Signore, sì gli mise nelle mani de' Filistei e de' figliuoli di Ammon.	7 Yahweh's anger then grew hot against Israel and he gave them over into the power of the Philistinesand the power of the Ammonites,
8 E furono afflitti, e fortemente (premuti e) tribolati per ispazio di XVIII anni, tutti quanti coloro i quali abitavano di là dal (fiume) Giordano nella terra degli Amorrei, la quale si è in Galaad;	8 who from that year onwards crushed and oppressed the Israelites for eighteen years -- all thoseIsraelites living on the other side of the Jordan in Amorite territory, in Gilead.
9 intanto che i figliuoli di Ammon, passato il (fiume) Giordano, guastassono Giuda e Beniamin ed Efraim; e fue molto afflitto Israel (e tribolato).	9 Furthermore, the Ammonites would cross the Jordan and also make war on Judah, Benjamin and theHouse of Ephraim, so that Israel was in distress.
10 E gridando a Dio Signore, dissono così: (Signore Iddio), noi abbiamo peccato a te (solo), imperciò che abbiamo abbandonato Iddio nostro Signore, e abbiamo servito (all' idolo di) Baal.	10 The Israelites then cried to Yahweh and said, 'We have sinned against you, because we have turnedfrom Yahweh our God to serve Baals.'
11 Ai quali respuose Iddio Signore: non è vero che gli Egizii e gli Amorrei e i figliuoli di Ammon e i Filistei,	11 And Yahweh said to the Israelites, 'When Egyptians and Amorites, Ammonites and Philistines,
12 e i Sidoni e Amalec e quelli di Canaan sì vi afflissono (e premettono e tribolarono) e gridaste a me per aiuto, e io sì vi liberai delle loro mani?	12 when the Sidonians, Amalek and Midian oppressed you and you cried to me, did I not rescue youfrom their power?
13 E con tutto questo si m' avete abbandonato, e adoraste gli dii altrui; e però io non mi curerò più di liberarvi (delle mani loro).	13 But it is you who have forsaken me and served other gods; and so I shall rescue you no more.
14 Andate, e sì chiamate (che vi diano aiuto) gli dii i quali voi avete eletti; ed egli vi liberino nel tempo della vostra angoscia.	14 Go and cry to the gods whom you have chosen. Let them rescue you in your time of trouble.'
15 E dissono i figliuoli d' Israel a Dio Signore, noi abbiamo peccato, (e offeso, benedici tu noi e) dàcci per penitenza che ti piace; pure ora almeno fa che tu ci liberi (da' nostri nemici).	15 The Israelites replied to Yahweh, 'We have sinned. Treat us as you see fit, but please rescue ustoday.'
16 Le quali parole dicendo, tutti quanti gl' idoli degli dii dell' altre genti cacciarono a terra, e sì servirono a Dio Signore; il quale sì si dolse (ed ebbe compassione) alle loro miserie (e tribolazioni).	16 They got rid of their foreign gods and served Yahweh, who could bear Israel's suffering no longer.
17 E in quella ora i figliuoli di Ammon, tutti insieme gridando, sì (vennero e puosero l'oste e) ficcarono le trabacche in Galaad; contro ai quali, tutti insieme raunati, i figliuoli d' Israel sì (andarono, e) puosero il campo in Masfa.	17 The Ammonites gathered and pitched camp in Gilead. The Israelites ral ied and pitched camp atMizpah.
18 E dissono tutti i principi di Galaad, ciascuno al prossimo suo: qualunque di noi comincerà a combattere contro ai figliuoli di Ammon, sì sarà duca del popolo di Galaad.	18 The people, the chieftains of Gilead, then said to one another, 'Who wil volunteer to attack theAmmonites? He shall be chief of al who live in Gilead!'
