Seconda Epistola di San Pietro Apostolo 3

1 Carissimi, ecco ch' io scrivo a voi questa seconda epistola, nella quale sollecito a confortamento la vostra pura mente;	1 This second epistle, beloved, I now write unto you; in both which I stir up your pure minds by way of remembrance:
2 che siate ricordevoli di quelle parole, le quali dissi dinanzi da voi, de' santi profeti e delli apostoli vostri e comandatori del Signore e Salvatore (nostro Iesù Cristo);	2 That ye may be mindful of the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets, and of the commandment of us the apostles of the Lord and Saviour:
3 primamente sapiendo questa cosa, che nelli giorni novissimi con inganno verranno li schernitori, andando secondo li loro desiderii,	3 Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts,
4 e dicendo dove è la promissione, ovver la venuta sua? da poi che li padri dormirono, tutte le cose persèverano così dal cominciamento della creatura.	4 And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.
5 Nascoso è a loro che vogliono questa cosa, che li cieli erano in prima, e la terra d'acqua, quell' acqua stava per la parola di Dio.	5 For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water:
6 Per le quali cose quel mondo allora ripieno d'acqua perì.	6 Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished:
7 E li cieli e la terra, ch' erano per quella medesima parola riposti, son riservati al fuoco, al dì del giudizio e della perdizione degli uomini empii.	7 But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.
8 Ma questa una cosa, carissimi, non vi sia nascosta, che uno di appo il Signore è come mille [anni], e mille anni sono come uno dì.	8 But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.
9 Non tarda il Signore colle sue promissioni; ma fa sofferentemente per voi, non vogliendo che alcuno ne perisca, ma che tutti tornino a penitenza.	9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.
10 Ma (adunque) verrà il dì del Signore, sì come latrone; nel quale li cieli con grande impeto trapasseranno, ma li elementi toccati dal calore (del fuoco) si distruggeranno, e la terra con tutte le cose che [sono] in essa si bruceranno.	10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.
11 Adunque, conciosia che tutte queste cose si debbano distruggere, chenti è bisogno a voi di essere nelle sante conversazioni e nella pietà,	11 Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness,
12 aspettando e approssimandovi all'avvenimento del die del Signore, per il quale li cieli ardendo si distruggeranno, e li elementi (toccati) per il calore del fuoco verranno meno?	12 Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat?
13 Ma nuovi cieli e nuova terra [per le] promissioni sue aspettiamo, nelli quali abita la giustizia.	13 Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness.
14 Per la qual cosa, carissimi, queste cose aspettando, sforzatevi da essere trovati appo lui senza macula e netti in pace.	14 Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye look for such things, be diligent that ye may be found of him in peace, without spot, and blameless.
15 E pensate che sia salvazione la lunga sofferenza del nostro Signore, sì come il carissimo fratello nostro Paolo scrisse a voi secondo la sapienza data a lui,	15 And account that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation; even as our beloved brother Paul also according to the wisdom given unto him hath written unto you;
16 sì come in tutte l' epistole, parlando in esse di queste cose, nelle quali son alquante cose gravi a intendere, le quali li non ammaestrati e instabili corrompono, sì come l' altre Scritture, a loro perdizione.	16 As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction.
17 Dunque voi, fratelli miei, queste cose sappiendo dinanzi, guardatevi che non siate menati nell'errore de' semplici, e cadiate della vostra fermezza.	17 Ye therefore, beloved, seeing ye know these things before, beware lest ye also, being led away with the error of the wicked, fall from your own stedfastness.
18 Ma crescete in grazia e in cognoscimento del Signore nostro e Salvatore Iesù Cristo. A lui sia gloria (e imperio) testè, e nel dì dell' eternità. Amen.	18 But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen.
