Prima Epistola di Santo Paulo alli Tessalonicesi 2

1 Fratelli, voi sapete per certo il nostro entramento (quando noi venimmo) a voi, che non fu invano.	1 For you yourselves know, brothers, that our reception among you was not without effect.
2 Anzi essendo noi passionati e tormentati di pena e vergogna, sì come voi sapete, nella città di Filippi, noi non di meno, grande securità nel Signore nostro abiendo, parlammo a voi l'evangelio di Dio con molta sollecitudine.	2 Rather, after we had suffered and been insolently treated, as you know, in Philippi, we drew courage through our God to speak to you the gospel of God with much struggle.
3 Chè il nostro conforto (e la nostra predicazione) non è di errore, nè (adunque) con sozzura, nè con inganno.	3 Our exhortation was not from delusion or impure motives, nor did it work through deception.
4 Ma come semo provati da Dio acciò che l'evangelio si credesse da noi, così parliamo, non volendo compiacere alli uomini, ma a Dio il quale prova li cuori nostri.	4 But as we were judged worthy by God to be entrusted with the gospel, that is how we speak, not as trying to please human beings,but rather God, who judges our hearts.
5 E certo noi per alcuna fiata non fummo con parole di lusinghe, sì come voi sapete; e non fummo con cagione di avarizia; Dio ne sia testimonio.	5 Nor, indeed, did we ever appear with flattering speech, as you know, or with a pretext for greed--God is witness--
6 E non andammo chiedendo gloria (e lode) dalli uomini, e non volemmo dare a voi carico, e alli altri.	6 nor did we seek praise from human beings, either from you or from others,
7 Con ciò sia che noi possemo essere carico a voi, sì come apostoli di Cristo; ma siamo fatti in mezzo di voi parvoli, sì come la balia nutrica (e) governa) li suoi figliuoli.	7 although we were able to impose our weight as apostles of Christ. Rather, we were gentle among you, as a nursing mother cares for her children.
8 Cosi desideriamo cupidamente di dare a voi, non solamente l'evangelio di Dio, ma eziandio le nostre anime (e la nostra vita); imperò che voi siete molto cari a noi.	8 With such affection for you, we were determined to share with you not only the gospel of God, but our very selves as well, so dearly beloved had you become to us.
9 Fratelli, voi vi ricordate della nostra fatica, la quale noi avemmo operando la notte e il dì, quando noi predicammo l' evangelio di Dio; perchè noi non volemmo gravare niuno.	9 You recall, brothers, our toil and drudgery. Working night and day in order not to burden any of you, we proclaimed to you the gospel of God.
10 Voi siete mia testimonianza e Dio, se noi non fummo, intra voi che credete, con santità, con giustizia e senza richiamo d' alcuno.	10 You are witnesses, and so is God, how devoutly and justly and blamelessly we behaved toward you believers.
11 Sapete ancora, in che guisa noi ciascuno di voi	11 As you know, we treated each one of you as a father treats his children,
12 pregammo e consolammo, sì come padre suoi figliuoli, e mostrammovi che voi andaste (nel servizio di Dio umilmente e santamente) sì come si conviene d'andare dinanzi da Dio, il quale chiamò voi al suo regno e alla sua gloria.	12 exhorting and encouraging you and insisting that you conduct yourselves as worthy of the God who calls you into his kingdom and glory.
13 Imperò noi rendiamo grazie a Dio senza intermissione; perchè poi che voi intendeste la parola di Dio da noi, voi non l'avete ricevuta sì come parola detta per li uomini, ma sì come parola di Dio, il quale adopera in voi che credeste.	13 And for this reason we too give thanks to God unceasingly, that,in receiving the word of God from hearing us, you received not a human word but, as it truly is, the word of God, which is now atwork in you who believe.
14 Certamente voi, fratelli, siete fatti seguitatori delle Chiese di Dio, le quali son in Iudea in Iesù Cristo; chè quelle medesime cose avete voi sostenute dalli vostri cittadini, sì come egli sostenettero dalli Iudei.	14 For you, brothers, have become imitators of the churches of God that are in Judea in Christ Jesus. For you suffer the same things from your compatriots as they did from the Jews,
15 Li quali Iudei uccisero (il nostro Signore) Iesù Cristo e li profeti, e a noi hanno fatta persecuzione, e non piaciono a Dio, e a tutte le genti fanno ingiuria e persecuzione,	15 who killed both the Lord Jesus and the prophets and persecuted us; they do not please God, and are opposed to everyone,
16 vietando a noi, che non parliamo (la parola di Dio) alle genti, che sieno salve; e questo fanno per compiere le loro peccata sempre; e la ira di Dio sì è sopra loro insino alla fine.	16 trying to prevent us from speaking to the Gentiles that they may be saved, thus constantly filling up the measure of their sins. But the wrath of God has finally begun to come upon them.
17 Ma noi, fratelli, partiti da voi al tempo, per veduta (e per favellare), ma non per cuore, molto ci studiamo di vedere la vostra faccia con gran desiderio.	17 Brothers, when we were bereft of you for a short time, in person, not in heart, we were all the more eager in our great desire to see you in person.
18 Chè certo noi volemmo venire a voi, io Paulo insieme e una altra volta; ma Satana ci fece impedimento.	18 We decided to go to you--I, Paul, not only once but more than once--yet Satan thwarted us.
19 Quale adunque è la nostra speranza e la nostra allegrezza e la corona della nostra gloria? Or non siete voi dinanzi al nostro Signore Iesù Cristo nel suo avvenimento?	19 For what is our hope or joy or crown to boast of in the presence of our Lord Jesus at his coming if not you yourselves?
20 Certo voi siete la mia gloria e il mio gaudio (e allegrezza).	20 For you are our glory and joy.
