1 E crescendo il numero delli discepoli (per le predicazioni degli apostoli, avendo ogni cosa e vivendo in comune), e già di quelli convertiti delle contrade di Grecia, cominciorono a momorare contra' Giudei cristiani; e lamentavansi che loro donne erano dispregiate nel quotidiano ministerio, (cioè che non erano richieste, o ch' erano troppo occupate).	1 In those days, as the number of disciples was increasing, there occurred a murmuring of the Greeks against the Hebrews, because their widows were treated with disdain in the daily ministration.
2 Per la quale cosa li dodici apostoli convocorono la moltitudine de' discepoli, e disseno loro: non è convenevole cosa, che noi lasciamo il studio e l'officio del predicare, per attendere a ministrare alle mense (e avere sollecitudine de' cibi corporali).	2 And so the twelve, calling together the multitude of the disciples, said: “It is not fair for us to leave behind the Word of God to serve at tables also.
3 Perciò considerate (ed eleggete) di voi VII uomini di buona fama, e pieni di Spirito Santo e di sapienza, li quali constituamo (e facciamo officiali) sopra questo ministerio.	3 Therefore, brothers, search among yourselves for seven men of good testimony, filled with the Holy Spirit and with wisdom, whom we may appoint over this work.
4 E noi (come si conviene) attenderemo (e vacaremo) pure a orare e predicare.	4 Yet truly, we will be continually in prayer and in the ministry of the Word.”
5 E ciò (parendo e) piacendo a tutta la moltitudine, elessero (principalmente) Stefano, uomo pieno di fede e di Spirito Santo, e (altri VI cioè) Filippo, Procoro, Nicanore, Timone, Parmena e Nicolao aventiccio d' Antiochia.	5 And the plan pleased the entire multitude. And they chose Stephen, a man filled with faith and with the Holy Spirit, and Philip and Prochorus and Nicanor and Timon and Parmenas and Nicolas, a new arrival from Antioch.
6 E presentarongli dinanzi agli apostoli; e gli apostoli orando posero loro le mani in capo (e confermarongli nel detto officio).	6 These they set before the sight of the Apostles, and while praying, they imposed hands on them.
7 Il fervore del predicare cresceva; e il numero delli fedeli (continuamente cresceva e) moltiplicava in Ierusalem, intanto che (eziandio) molti de' sacerdoti (del tempio) si convertivano alla fede.	7 And the Word of the Lord was increasing, and the number of disciples in Jerusalem was multiplied exceedingly. And even a large group of the priests were obedient to the faith.
8 E Stefano, pieno di grazia e di fortezza, faceva molti segni e maraviglie nel popolo.	8 Then Stephen, filled with grace and fortitude, wrought great signs and miracles among the people.
9 Contra il quale si levoro molti (giudei e malevoli) della sinagoga, di quelli che si chiamavano Libertini e Cirenensi, e degli Alessandrini e d'altri (molti) di Cilicia e d' Asia; e disputavano contra lui.	9 But certain ones, from the synagogue of the so-called Libertines, and of the Cyrenians, and of the Alexandrians, and of those who were from Cilicia and Asia rose up and were disputing with Stephen.
10 Ma non potevano resistere alla sapienza, e allo Spirito Santo il quale (in lui) parlava.	10 But they were not able to resist the wisdom and the Spirit with which he was speaking.
11 Onde egli (non potendoli resistere per ragione, procurarono di confonderlo con falsi testimonii, e) fecero venire uomini li quali dicessero (e testimoniassero) che avessero udito dire a Stefano parole di biastemmia contra a Dio e contro a Moisè.	11 Then they suborned men who were to claim that they had heard him speaking words of blasphemy against Moses and against God.
12 E per questo modo (incitarono e) provocarono contra a lui la turba e' sacerdoti e' scribi; e a furore il presero, e representorono in mezzo del concilio.	12 And thus did they stir up the people and the elders and the scribes. And hurrying together, they seized him and brought him to the council.
13 E li falsi testimonii incominciarono a dire: questo uomo non cessa di parlare contra al santo luogo e contra alla (santa) legge.	13 And they set up false witnesses, who said: “This man does not cease to speak words against the holy place and the law.
14 Onde noi gli udimmo dire, che Iesù Nazareno distruggerà questo luogo, e muterà le tradizioni e li statuti li quali Moisè ci lassiò (e ordinò).	14 For we have heard him saying that this Jesus the Nazarene will destroy this place and will change the traditions, which Moses handed down to us.”
15 Allora sguardandolo nella faccia (con isdegnoso animo) quelli che sedevano nel concilio (per giudicarlo), vidono la faccia sua come faccia d'angelo.	15 And all those who were sitting in the council, gazing at him, saw his face, as if it had become the face of an Angel.
