Neemia 5

1 E (in quel tempo) si levò uno clamore grande nel popolo e nelle loro mogliere contro alli suoi fratelli Giudei.	1 And there was a great cry of the people and of their wives against their brethren the Jews.
2 Ed erano alcuni che dicevano: li figliuoli nostri e le figliuole nostre sono in grande moltitudine; togliamo del frumento per lo prezzo loro, e mangiamo e viviamo.	2 For there were that said, We, our sons, and our daughters, are many: therefore we take up corn for them, that we may eat, and live.
3 Ed erano alcunì altri che dicevano: diamo in pegno li nostri campi e le nostre vigne e le nostre case, e pigliamo del frumento per la fame.	3 Some also there were that said, We have mortgaged our lands, vineyards, and houses, that we might buy corn, because of the dearth.
4 E altri dicevano: togliamo denari a prestanza nelli tributi del re, e diamo li nostri campi e le nostre vigne.	4 There were also that said, We have borrowed money for the king's tribute, and that upon our lands and vineyards.
5 E ora come sono le carni de' nostri fratelli (che sono stati presi in servitù), così siamo noi, come sono li loro figliuoli, così sono i nostri. Ecco che noi soggioghiamo li nostri figliuoli e le nostre figliuole in servitù; e delle nostre figliuole già (molte) sono serve, e non le possiamo redimere per povertà; e li campi nostri e le nostre vigne, altri le possiede.	5 Yet now our flesh is as the flesh of our brethren, our children as their children: and, lo, we bring into bondage our sons and our daughters to be servants, and some of our daughters are brought unto bondage already: neither is it in our power to redeem them; for other men have our lands and vineyards.
6 E io (Neemia) molto mi turbai, udendo il loro clamore secondo queste parole.	6 And I was very angry when I heard their cry and these words.
7 E pensai appo me nel mio cuore; e chiamai li principi e li magistrati, e ripresili molto, e dissi: a questo modo voi togliete usura dalli vostri fratelli? E congregai contro di costoro una grande moltitudine.	7 Then I consulted with myself, and I rebuked the nobles, and the rulers, and said unto them, Ye exact usury, every one of his brother. And I set a great assembly against them.
8 E dissi loro: noi abbiamo ricomperati li fratelli vostri Giudei, come voi sapete, i quali furono venduti alle genti, secondo la nostra possibilità; e voi dunque venderete li vostri fratelli, e noi li compereremo? E istetteno cheti, e non (sapevano che dire, nè) trovavano risposta.	8 And I said unto them, We after our ability have redeemed our brethren the Jews, which were sold unto the heathen; and will ye even sell your brethren? or shall they be sold unto us? Then held they their peace, and found nothing to answer.
9 E io dissi loro: questo che voi fate non è buona cosa; perchè non vivete voi nel timore di Dio nostro, acciò che noi non siamo vituperati da gente che sono i nemici nostri?	9 Also I said, It is not good that ye do: ought ye not to walk in the fear of our God because of the reproach of the heathen our enemies?
10 E io e li miei fratelli e li miei servi abbiamo servito a molti di danari e di frumento; non domandiamo questo in comune; la moneta d'altri concediamola, la quale tocca a noi.	10 I likewise, and my brethren, and my servants, might exact of them money and corn: I pray you, let us leave off this usury.
11 Restituiteli dunque oggi li suoi campi e le sue vigne e li suoi oliveti e le sue case; e non solo questo fate, ma fate anco che la centesima della pecunia, del frumento, del vino e dell' olio, la quale suolete scuotere da loro, datela per loro.	11 Restore, I pray you, to them, even this day, their lands, their vineyards, their oliveyards, and their houses, also the the hundredth part of the money, and of the corn, the wine, and the oil, that ye exact of them.
12 E disseno: noi restituiremo tutto, e da loro non piglieremo alcuna cosa; e faremo come tu dici. E (dopo questo) chiamai li sacerdoti, e sì li scongiurai ch' elli facessono secondo ch' io avea detto.	12 Then said they, We will restore them, and will require nothing of them; so will we do as thou sayest. Then I called the priests, and took an oath of them, that they should do according to this promise.
13 E oltre di questo io commossi il mio seno, e dissi: così commova Iddio ogni uomo della casa sua, lo quale non farà secondo quello che è stato detto; e così sia commosso delle sue fatiche (per tal modo) che rimanga vuoto di tutto. E disse tutta la moltitudine: Amen. E laudarono Iddio. Fece dunque il popolo come era detto.	13 Also I shook my lap, and said, So God shake out every man from his house, and from his labour, that performeth not this promise, even thus be he shaken out, and emptied. And all the congregation said, Amen, and praised the LORD. And the people did according to this promise.
14 E da quello dì, che mi comandò il re che fossi duca nella terra di Giuda (fu), dall' anno vigesimo persino all' anno trigesimo secondo di Artaserse re, per anni XII, io e li fratelli miei le entrate annuali, che si doveano alli duchi, noi non le mangiammo.	14 Moreover from the time that I was appointed to be their governor in the land of Judah, from the twentieth year even unto the two and thirtieth year of Artaxerxes the king, that is, twelve years, I and my brethren have not eaten the bread of the governor.
15 E li duchi primi, che furono dinanzi a me, gravarono il popolo, e pigliarono da loro, in pane e in vino e in danari, ogni dì sicli XL; e anco li ministri loro molto premerono lo popolo. Ma io non feci così per cagione del timore di Dio.	15 But the former governors that had been before me were chargeable unto the people, and had taken of them bread and wine, beside forty shekels of silver; yea, even their servants bare rule over the people: but so did not I, because of the fear of God.
16 E non solo non feci così, ma nell' opera del muro io edificai (alle mie spese), e non comperai campo, e tutti i miei servi erano congregati all'opera.	16 Yea, also I continued in the work of this wall, neither bought we any land: and all my servants were gathered thither unto the work.
17 E li Giudei e li magistrati, CL uomini, e quelli che veniano a me delle genti le quali sono nel nostro circuito, erano nella mensa mia.	17 Moreover there were at my table an hundred and fifty of the Jews and rulers, beside those that came unto us from among the heathen that are about us.
18 Ed erami apparecchiato ogni di uno bue, montoni VI eletti, senza li (animali) volatili; in termine di X di diversi vini e molte altre cose io dava; oltre di questo l'entrata annuale del mio ducato non cercai (nè tolsi); però che il popolo era molto attenuato.	18 Now that which was prepared for me daily was one ox and six choice sheep; also fowls were prepared for me, and once in ten days store of all sorts of wine: yet for all this required not I the bread of the governor, because the bondage was heavy upon this people.
19 Arricòrdati di me, Signore Iddio mio, nelli beni tuoi, secondo tutto quello ch' io ho fatto a questo popolo.	19 Think upon me, my God, for good, according to all that I have done for this people.
