Proverbs 3

1 My son, forget not my teaching, keep in mind my commands;	1 Мій сину! не забувай мого навчання; | нехай твоє серце береже мої накази,
2 For many days, and years of life, and peace, will they bring you.	2 бо вони тобі причинять довголіття, | роки життя й спокою.
3 Let not kindness and fidelity leave you; bind them around your neck;	3 Нехай доброта й вірність тебе не покидають, | прив’яжи їх собі на шию, | напиши їх на таблиці серця.
4 Then will you win favor and good esteem before God and man.	4 Тим знайдеш ласку й доброзичливість | в Божих очах і в людських.
5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart, on your own intelligence rely not;	5 Звірся на Господа всім твоїм серцем, | не покладайсь на власний розум.
6 In all your ways be mindful of him, and he will make straight your paths.	6 У всіх твоїх путях думай про нього | і він твої стежки вирівняє.
7 Be not wise in your own eyes, fear the LORD and turn away from evil;	7 Не гадай собі, що ти мудрий, | бійся Господа і від зла ухиляйся,
8 This will mean health for your flesh and vigor for your bones.	8 і це буде здоров’ям для твого тіла, | й оновою для костей твоїх.
9 Honor the LORD with your wealth, with first fruits of all your produce;	9 Шануй Господа тим, що ти маєш, | та первоплодами всіх твоїх прибутків,
10 Then will your barns be filled with grain, with new wine your vats will overflow.	10 і твої клуні будуть ущерть повні, | твої винотоки вируватимуть молодим вином.
11 The discipline of the LORD, my son, disdain not; spurn not his reproof;	11 Не легковаж Господнього докору, о мій сину, | і не ухиляйся, коли він карає.
12 For whom the LORD loves he reproves, and he chastises the son he favors.	12 Кого Бог любить, того й картає, | як батько улюбленого сина.
13 Happy the man who finds wisdom, the man who gains understanding!	13 Щасливий чоловік, що знайшов мудрість, | людина, що розум придбала,
14 For her profit is better than profit in silver, and better than gold is her revenue;	14 бо її придбання ліпше від придбання срібла, | і понад золото такий прибуток.
15 She is more precious than corals, and none of your choice possessions can compare with her.	15 Вона дорожча від перлів, | ніщо з того, що бажаєш, не зрівняється з нею.
16 Long life is in her right hand, in her left are riches and honor;	16 Вік довгий у її правиці, | і в лівиці — багатство й слава.
17 Her ways are pleasant ways, and all her paths are peace;	17 Шляхи її — шляхи відради, | всі її стежки — мирні.
18 She is a tree of life to those who grasp her, and he is happy who holds her fast.	18 Вона дерево життя для тих, хто її держиться, | щасливий, хто її вхопився.
19 The LORD by wisdom founded the earth, established the heavens by understanding;	19 Господь мудрістю заснував землю, | він розумом утвердив небо.
20 By his knowledge the depths break open, and the clouds drop down dew.	20 Його знанням розсілися глибини, | і хмари скрапують росою.
21 My son, let not these slip out of your sight: keep advice and counsel in view;	21 Мій сину! Бережи розум і обачність; | нехай не зникають з-перед очей у тебе,
22 So will they be life to your soul, and an adornment for your neck.	22 і вони будуть життям душі твоєї, | окрасою твоєї шиї.
23 Then you may securely go your way; your foot will never stumble;	23 Тоді ходитимеш безпечно дорогою твоєю, | і нога твоя не спотикнеться.
24 When you lie down, you need not be afraid, when you rest, your sleep will be sweet.	24 Коли сідатимеш, нічого не будеш боятися, | коли лягатимеш, сон твій буде солодкий.
25 Be not afraid of sudden terror, of the ruin of the wicked when it comes;	25 Не бійся ні переляку раптового, | ані напасти злих, коли нагряне,
26 For the LORD will be your confidence, and will keep your foot from the snare.	26 бо Господь буде безпекою твоєю | і збереже ногу твою від пастки.
27 Refuse no one the good on which he has a claim when it is in your power to do it for him.	27 Не затримуй добра від того, кому воно належить, | коли рука твоя здоліє це зробити.
28 Say not to your neighbor, "Go, and come again, tomorrow I will give," when you can give at once.	28 Не кажи ближньому: «Йди геть, потім прийдеш, | дам узавтра», — коли є у тебе щось.
29 Plot no evil against your neighbor, against him who lives at peace with you.	29 Не куй зла на твого ближнього, | коли він з тобою перебуває в довір’ї.
30 Quarrel not with a man without cause, with one who has done you no harm.	30 Не сварися з чоловіком без причини, | якщо він тобі зла не заподіяв.
31 Envy not the lawless man and choose none of his ways:	31 Насильникові не завидуй, | не наслідуй його поведінки,
32 To the LORD the perverse man is an abomination, but with the upright is his friendship.	32 бо розбещений для Господа осоружний, | з праведниками ж його дружба.
33 The curse of the LORD is on the house of the wicked, but the dwelling of the just he blesses;	33 Прокляття Господа в домі злого, | а житло праведника він благословляє.
34 When he is dealing with the arrogant, he is stern, but to the humble he shows kindness.	34 З насмішників Господь сміється, | покірним дає ласку.
35 Honor is the possession of wise men, but fools inherit shame.	35 Мудрі беруть у насліддя славу, | доля безумних — ганьба.
