Proverbs 27

NEW AMERICAN BIBLE	Біблія
1 Boast not of tomorrow, for you know not what any day may bring forth.	1 Не хвалися завтрішнім днем, | бо не знаєш, що день може вродити.
2 Let another praise you--not your own mouth; Someone else--not your own lips.	2 Нехай вихвалює тебе інший, а не власні уста, | чужий хто-небудь, — а не твої губи.
3 Stone is heavy, and sand a burden, but a fool's provocation is heavier than both.	3 Важке каміння, тяжкий пісок, | — та гнів дурного обидвоє переважить.
4 Anger is relentless, and wrath overwhelming-- but before jealousy who can stand?	4 Жорстока — лютість, гнів — бурхливий, | та проти заздрощів хто встоїться?
5 Better is an open rebuke than a love that remains hidden.	5 Ліпше відвертий докір, | ніж любов прихована.
6 Wounds from a friend may be accepted as well meant, but the greetings of an enemy one prays against.	6 Рани від люблячого — щирі, | а поцілунки ворога — зрадливі.
7 One who is full, tramples on virgin honey; but to the man who is hungry, any bitter thing is sweet.	7 Хто ситий, топче й крижку меду; | голодному й гірке — солодке.
8 Like a bird that is far from its nest is a man who is far from his home.	8 Як пташка, що гніздо кидає, | так чоловік, що батьківщину кинув.
9 Perfume and incense gladden the heart, but by grief the soul is torn asunder.	9 Олія й пахощі веселять серце, | так само й друг солодкий, що з серця раду вділяє.
10 Your own friend and your father's friend forsake not; but if ruin befalls you, enter not a kinsman's house. Better is a neighbor near at hand than a brother far away.	10 Не покидай ні свого, ні батьківського друга, | ані не входь у дім брата твого в день твого нещастя. | Ліпший сусід близький, аніж брат далекий.
11 If you are wise, my son, you will gladden my heart, and I will be able to rebut him who tuants me.	11 Мій сину, будь розумний і радуй моє серце, | щоб я знав відповісти тому, хто мене ображає.
12 The shrewd man perceives evil and hides; simpletons continue on and suffer the penalty.	12 Обачний бачить лихо й ховається, | а легковажні йдуть далі — й зазнають кари.
13 Take his garment who becomes surety for another, and for the sake of a stranger, yield it up!	13 Візьми з нього одежу, бо він за другого ручився; | замість чужих візьми з нього заставу.
14 When one greets his neighbor with a loud voice in the early morning, a curse can be laid to his charge.	14 Хто ближнього благословляє з ранку на ввесь голос, | про того думають, що він його проклинає.
15 For a persistent leak on a rainy day the match is a quarrelsome woman.	15 Постійне капання в дощову погоду | і сварлива жінка — одне на одного схожі.
16 He who keeps her stores up a stormwind; he cannot tell north from south.	16 Хто хоче її вгамувати, той хоче вгамувати вітер, | або набрати олії в руку.
17 As iron sharpens iron, so man sharpens his fellow man.	17 Залізо гострить залізо, | а чоловік обточується в товаристві з другим.
18 He who tends a fig tree eats its fruit, and he who is attentive to his master will be enriched.	18 Хто дбає про смоковницю, той їстиме плід з неї, | хто ходить коло свого пана, той у славі буде.

22 Though you should pound the fool to bits with the pestle, amid the grits in a mortar, his folly would not go out of him.	22 Товчи дурного товкачем, мов зерно в ступі, | — його дурнота від нього не відступить.
23 Take good care of your flocks, give careful attention to your herds;	23 Наглядай пильно, як воно з отарою твоєю, | і добре дбай про твої стада,
24 For wealth lasts not forever, nor even a crown from age to age.	24 багатство бо не вічне; | чи ж багатство з роду до роду переходить?
25 When the grass is taken away and the aftergrowth appears, and the mountain greens are gathered in,	25 Як сіно скошене й пробивається отава, | і на горах траву збирають,
26 The lambs will provide you with clothing, and the goats will bring the price of a field,	26 ягнята будуть тобі на одежу, | козли — ціна на поле,
27 And there will be ample goat's milk to supply you, to supply your household, and maintenance for your maidens.	27 буде доволі молока козячого — тобі на їжу, | твоїй сім’ї на їжу та твоїм слугиням на прожиток.
