1 And it came to pass, when Jesus had made an end of commanding his twelve disciples, he departed thence to teach and to preach in their cities.	1 E fatto è che quando Iesù ebbe finito il comandamento alli suoi discepoli, partissi quindi, acciò predicasse nelle loro città.
2 Now when John had heard in the prison the works of Christ, he sent two of his disciples,	2 Ed essendo Ioanne in prigione, e udendo le operazioni di Cristo, mandogli due suoi discepoli.
3 And said unto him, Art thou he that should come, or do we look for another?	3 Li quali dissonc a Iesù: se' tu colui che dee venire, o spettiamo Itri?
4 Jesus answered and said unto them, Go and shew John again those things which ye do hear and see:	4 E Iesù rispose a loro, e disse: andate e annunciate a Ioanne quello che avete veduto e udito.
5 The blind receive their sight, and the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, and the poor have the gospel preached to them.	5 Li ciechi sono alluminati, e quelli ch' erano rattratti, vanno; li lebbrosi sono mondati, e li sordi odono, e li morti sono resuscitati, e a' poveri è evangelizzato.
6 And blessed is he, whosoever shall not be offended in me.	6 È beato colui che non sarà scandalizzato ' in me.
7 And as they departed, Jesus began to say unto the multitudes concerning John, What went ye out into the wilderness to see? A reed shaken with the wind?	7 E partendosi egli, cominciò Iesù a dire alla turba di Ioanne: che andaste voi a vedere nel diserto? una canna menata dal vento?
8 But what went ye out for to see? A man clothed in soft raiment? behold, they that wear soft clothing are in kings' houses.	8 Ma che andaste voi vedere? uno uomo vestito di vestimenta delicate? Ecco, coloro che si vestono di delicate vestimenta (morbidamente), stanno nelle case de' re.
9 But what went ye out for to see? A prophet? yea, I say unto you, and more than a prophet.	9 Che andaste voi a vedere? profeta? Ed io vi dico ch' è più che profeta.
10 For this is he, of whom it is written, Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, which shall prepare thy way before thee.	10 Questo è colui di cui è scritto: ecco ch' io mando l' angiolo mio dinanzi dalla faccia tua, il qual apparecchiarà la via tua dinanzi da te.
11 Verily I say unto you, Among them that are born of women there hath not risen a greater than John the Baptist: notwithstanding he that is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.	11 In verità io vi dico: tra li nasciuti di femine non s'è levato maggiore di Ioanne Battista; ma chi è minore nel regno del cielo, egli è maggiore di lui.
12 And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffereth violence, and the violent take it by force.	12 Onde dalli giorni di Ioanne Battista insino al presente, il regno de' cieli sostiene violenza, e gli sforzanti pigliano quello.
13 For all the prophets and the law prophesied until John.	13 Certo tutti li profeti e la legge hanno profetato insino al tempo di Ioaune.
14 And if ye will receive it, this is Elias, which was for to come.	14 E se voi il volete accettare, egli è Elia che è per venire.
15 He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.	15 Chi ha orecchie da udire, oda,
16 But whereunto shall I liken this generation? It is like unto children sitting in the markets, and calling unto their fellows,	16 A cui agguaglierò questa generazione? Ella è simile a' fanciulli sedenti nel mercato, che gridano a' suoi eguali,
17 And saying, We have piped unto you, and ye have not danced; we have mourned unto you, and ye have not lamented.	17 dicendo a voi abbiamo cantate, e non saltaste; siamo lamentati, e non piangeste.
18 For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, He hath a devil.	18 Imperò ch' egli è venuto Ioanne non mangiando nè bevendo, e loro dicono: egli ha il demonio.
19 The Son of man came eating and drinking, and they say, Behold a man gluttonous, and a winebibber, a friend of publicans and sinners. But wisdom is justified of her children.	19 Egli è venuto il figliuolo dell' uomo mangiante e bevente, e loro dicono: ecco l' uomo voratore e bevitore del vino, amico de' pubblicani e peccatori. E da' suoi figliuoli è giustificata la sapienza.
20 Then began he to upbraid the cities wherein most of his mighty works were done, because they repented not:	20 Allora cominciò a reprovare alle città, nelle quali sono fatte molte sue virtù; imperò che non avevano fatto penitenza.
21 Woe unto thee, Chorazin! woe unto thee, Bethsaida! for if the mighty works, which were done in you, had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes.	21 Guai a te, Corozain, guai a te, Betsaida; imperò che se fossero state fatte in Tiro e in Sidone le virtù le quali sono fatte in voi, già avrebbono fatto penitenza nel cilicio e cenere.
22 But I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon at the day of judgment, than for you.	22 E però vi dico veramente: nel giorno del giudicio sarà più remissione a quelli di Tiro e a quelli di Sidone, che non sarà a voi.
23 And thou, Capernaum, which art exalted unto heaven, shalt be brought down to hell: for if the mighty works, which have been done in thee, had been done in Sodom, it would have remained until this day.	23 E tu, o Cafarnao, or sarai elevata insino alli cieli? Discenderai insino all' inferno; imperò che se fossero state fatte in Sodoma le virtù che sono fatte in te, forse serebbeno fatte ferme insino a questo giorno.
24 But I say unto you, That it shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom in the day of judgment, than for thee.	24 Però ti dico, che nel giorno del giudicio alla terra di Sodoma sarà più remissione, che a te.
25 At that time Jesus answered and said, I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent, and hast revealed them unto babes.	25 In quello tempo, respondendo Iesù, disse: io confesso te, Padre, Signore del cielo e della terra; imperò che ascondesti queste cose alli savii e prudenti, e ha' le rivelate ai piccolini.
26 Even so, Father: for so it seemed good in thy sight.	26 Così sia, Padre: poi che così (Padre) è piaciuto dinanzi da te.
27 All things are delivered unto me of my Father: and no man knoweth the Son, but the Father; neither knoweth any man the Father, save the Son, and he to whomsoever the Son will reveal him.	27 Tutte le cose mi son date dal Padre mio; e niuno conosce il Figliuolo, salvo il Padre; e il Padre non conosce, se non il Figliuolo, e a cui il Figliuolo il volesse rivelare.
28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.	28 Venite a me, tutti voi li quali vi affaticate, e io vi darò refezione.
29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.	29 Tollete il giogo mio sopra voi, e imparate da me, ch' io son umile e mansueto di cuore; e troverete riposo all' anime vostre.
30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.	30 Imperò che il giogo mio è soave, e il peso mio è lieve.
