1 Összegyűlt tehát a filiszteusok valamennyi serege Áfeknél, és Izrael is tábort ütött a Jezreel mellett levő forrásnál.	1 Now the Philistines gathered all their forces at Aphek; and the Israelites were encamped by the fountain which is in Jezreel.
2 Felvonultak a filiszteusok fejedelmei századaikkal és ezredeikkel és Dávid és emberei is felvonultak az utolsó csapatban Ákissal.	2 As the lords of the Philistines were passing on by hundreds and by thousands, and David and his men were passing on in the rear with Achish,
3 Azt mondták ekkor a filiszteusok fejedelmei Ákisnak: »Mit keresnek itt ezek a héberek?« Azt mondta erre Ákis a filiszteusok fejedelmeinek: »Hát nem ismeritek Dávidot, Saulnak, Izrael királyának volt szolgáját? Sok nap vagy esztendő óta van már nálam, s nem találtam benne semmi rosszat sem attól a naptól kezdve, hogy hozzám átszökött, mind a mai napig.« –	3 the commanders of the Philistines said, "What are these Hebrews doing here?" And Achish said to the commanders of the Philistines, "Is not this David, the servant of Saul, king of Israel, who has been with me now for days and years, and since he deserted to me I have found no fault in him to this day."
4 Erre a filiszteusok fejedelmei megharagudtak rá és azt mondták neki: »Térjen vissza az az ember, s üljön a helyén, ahova rendelted, de ne jöjjön le velünk a harcba, hogy ellenségünkké ne legyen, amikor harcolni kezdünk: hiszen mi másképp engesztelhetné meg urát, mint a mi fejünkkel?	4 But the commanders of the Philistines were angry with him; and the commanders of the Philistines said to him, "Send the man back, that he may return to the place to which you have assigned him; he shall not go down with us to battle, lest in the battle he become an adversary to us. For how could this fellow reconcile himself to his lord? Would it not be with the heads of the men here?
5 Nem ez az a Dávid, akinek a körtáncban ezt énekelték: ‘Megverte Saul a maga ezerét. Dávid pedig a maga tízezerét?’«	5 Is not this David, of whom they sing to one another in dances, Saul has slain his thousands, and David his ten thousands'?"
6 Hívatta tehát Ákis Dávidot és azt mondta neki: »Az Úr életére mondom, hogy derék és jó ember vagy színem előtt, s kedvemre van, hogy velem jársz-kelsz a táborban, mert nem találtam benned semmi rosszat attól a naptól kezdve, hogy hozzám jöttél mind a mai napig. Ám a fejedelmeknek nem tetszel.	6 Then Achish called David and said to him, "As the LORD lives, you have been honest, and to me it seems right that you should march out and in with me in the campaign; for I have found nothing wrong in you from the day of your coming to me to this day. Nevertheless the lords do not approve of you.
7 Térj vissza tehát, s menj el békességben, hogy ne sértsd a filiszteusok fejedelmeinek szemét.«	7 So go back now; and go peaceably, that you may not displease the lords of the Philistines."
8 Azt mondta erre Dávid Ákisnak: »De hát mit követtem el, s mi rosszat találtál bennem, szolgádban attól a naptól kezdve, hogy színed elé jutottam mind a mai napig, hogy nem vonulhatok és nem harcolhatok uram, királyom ellenségei ellen?«	8 And David said to Achish, "But what have I done? What have you found in your servant from the day I entered your service until now, that I may not go and fight against the enemies of my lord the king?"
9 Ákis erre azt felelte Dávidnak: »Tudom, hogy olyan jó vagy szememben, mint az Isten angyala, de hát a filiszteusok fejedelmei azt mondták: ‘Ne jöjjön fel velünk a harcba.’	9 And Achish made answer to David, "I know that you are as blameless in my sight as an angel of God; nevertheless the commanders of the Philistines have said, He shall not go up with us to the battle.'
10 Éppen azért kelj fel kora reggel urad azon szolgáival együtt, akik veled jöttek, s hajnalban, mihelyt felkeltek és virradni kezd, menjetek el.«	10 Now then rise early in the morning with the servants of your lord who came with you; and start early in the morning, and depart as soon as you have light."
11 Erre Dávid és emberei hajnalban felkeltek, hogy kora reggel útra keljenek és visszatérjenek a filiszteusok földjére, a filiszteusok pedig felmentek Jezreelbe.	11 So David set out with his men early in the morning, to return to the land of the Philistines. But the Philistines went up to Jezreel.
