1 Ugyanebben az időben megbetegedett Ábia, Jeroboám fia.	1 At that time Abijah the son of Jeroboam fell sick.
2 Azt mondta ekkor Jeroboám a feleségének: »Kelj fel, cserélj ruhát, hogy ne ismerjenek meg, hogy te vagy Jeroboám felesége, s eredj el Silóba, ahol Ahiás próféta van, aki megmondta nekem, hogy királya leszek e népnek.	2 And Jeroboam said to his wife, "Arise, and disguise yourself, that it be not known that you are the wife of Jeroboam, and go to Shiloh; behold, Ahijah the prophet is there, who said of me that I should be king over this people.
3 Végy kezedbe tíz kenyeret is, meg egy lepényt és egy edény mézet, s eredj el hozzá: ő majd közli veled, mi lesz e gyermekkel.«	3 Take with you ten loaves, some cakes, and a jar of honey, and go to him; he will tell you what shall happen to the child."
4 Úgy cselekedett Jeroboám felesége, ahogy ő mondta, s felkelt, s elment Silóba, s betért Ahiás házába; ez azonban már nem látott, mert szeme az öregségtől elhomályosodott.	4 Jeroboam's wife did so; she arose, and went to Shiloh, and came to the house of Ahijah. Now Ahijah could not see, for his eyes were dim because of his age.
5 Azt mondta azonban az Úr Ahiásnak: »Íme, Jeroboám felesége jött, hogy megkérdezzen téged beteg fia felől. Ezt és ezt mondd neki.« – Amikor tehát az kilétét titkolva bement,	5 And the LORD said to Ahijah, "Behold, the wife of Jeroboam is coming to inquire of you concerning her son; for he is sick. Thus and thus shall you say to her." When she came, she pretended to be another woman.

Én azonban kemény hírre kaptam megbízatást számodra.	6 But when Ahijah heard the sound of her feet, as she came in at the door, he said, "Come in, wife of Jeroboam; why do you pretend to be another? For I am charged with heavy tidings for you.
7 Eredj, s mondd Jeroboámnak: ‘Ezt üzeni az Úr, Izrael Istene: Mivel én felemeltelek téged a nép közül, s népemnek, Izraelnek fejedelmévé tettelek,	7 Go, tell Jeroboam, 'Thus says the LORD, the God of Israel: "Because I exalted you from among the people, and made you leader over my people Israel,
8 s elszakítottam a királyságot Dávid házától, s neked adtam, te azonban nem voltál olyan, mint szolgám, Dávid, aki megtartotta parancsaimat, s teljes szívéből követett engem, s azt cselekedte, ami kedves az én színem előtt,	8 and tore the kingdom away from the house of David and gave it to you; and yet you have not been like my servant David, who kept my commandments, and followed me with all his heart, doing only that which was right in my eyes,
9 hanem gonoszabbul cselekedtél, mint mindazok, akik előtted voltak, s más, öntött isteneket csináltattál magadnak, hogy haragra ingerelj, engem pedig a hátad mögé vetettél:	9 but you have done evil above all that were before you and have gone and made for yourself other gods, and molten images, provoking me to anger, and have cast me behind your back;
10 azért íme, én nyomorúságot hozok Jeroboám házára, s kiirtom Jeroboám minden férfiát, a bezártat is, az utolsót is Izraelben és úgy elsöpröm Jeroboám házának utódait, mint ahogy a trágyát szokták elsöpörni egészen tisztára.	10 therefore behold, I will bring evil upon the house of Jeroboam, and will cut off from Jeroboam every male, both bond and free in Israel, and will utterly consume the house of Jeroboam, as a man burns up dung until it is all gone.
11 Akije a városban hal meg Jeroboámnak, azt a kutyák eszik meg, akije pedig a mezőn hal meg, azt az ég madarai falják fel, mert az Úr így szólt.	11 Any one belonging to Jeroboam who dies in the city the dogs shall eat; and any one who dies in the open country the birds of the air shall eat; for the LORD has spoken it."'
12 Te pedig kelj fel, s menj házadba, s mihelyt lábad a városba lép, meghal a gyermek,	12 Arise therefore, go to your house. When your feet enter the city, the child shall die.
13 s elsiratja egész Izrael és el is temeti: mert egyedül ő kerül sírba Jeroboám ivadékai közül, mert Jeroboám házában csak benne talált jót az Úr, Izrael Istene.	13 And all Israel shall mourn for him, and bury him; for he only of Jeroboam shall come to the grave, because in him there is found something pleasing to the LORD, the God of Israel, in the house of Jeroboam.
14 Aztán majd királyt támaszt az Úr magának Izrael számára, s az megveri Jeroboám házát azon a napon s abban az időben	14 Moreover the LORD will raise up for himself a king over Israel, who shall cut off the house of Jeroboam today. And henceforth
15 és úgy megveri az Úr Isten Izraelt, hogy úgy fog ingadozni, mint a nád a vízben, s kitépi Izraelt erről a jó földről, amelyet atyáinak adott, s elszórja őket a folyóvízen túlra, mivel berkeket csináltak maguknak, hogy bosszantsák az Urat	15 the LORD will smite Israel, as a reed is shaken in the water, and root up Israel out of this good land which he gave to their fathers, and scatter them beyond the Euphrates, because they have made their Asherim, provoking the LORD to anger.
16 és kiszolgáltatja az Úr Izraelt Jeroboámnak azon vétkei miatt, amelyekkel vétkezett, s vétekbe vitte Izraelt.’«	16 And he will give Israel up because of the sins of Jeroboam, which he sinned and which he made Israel to sin."
17 Felkelt tehát Jeroboám felesége, s elment, s eljutott Tircába, s amint belépett a ház küszöbén, meghalt a gyermek;	17 Then Jeroboam's wife arose, and departed, and came to Tirzah. And as she came to the threshold of the house, the child died.
18 el is temették, s el is siratta őt egész Izrael az Úr beszéde szerint, amelyet szolgája, Ahiás próféta által szólt.	18 And all Israel buried him and mourned for him, according to the word of the LORD, which he spoke by his servant Ahijah the prophet.
19 Jeroboám egyéb dolgai pedig, hogy miként hadakozott, s miként uralkodott, íme, meg vannak írva Izrael királyainak krónikás könyvében.	19 Now the rest of the acts of Jeroboam, how he warred and how he reigned, behold, they are written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Israel.
20 Az idő pedig, amíg Jeroboám uralkodott, huszonkét esztendő volt: aztán aludni tért atyáihoz, s fia, Nádáb lett a király helyette.	20 And the time that Jeroboam reigned was twenty-two years; and he slept with his fathers, and Nadab his son reigned in his stead.
21 Tehát Roboám, Salamon fia lett a király Júdában. Negyvenegy esztendős volt Roboám, amikor uralkodni kezdett, s tizenhét esztendeig uralkodott Jeruzsálemben, abban a városban, amelyet az Úr kiválasztott Izrael minden törzse közül, hogy odahelyezze nevét. Anyját, aki ammonita volt, Naámának hívták.	21 Now Rehoboam the son of Solomon reigned in Judah. Rehoboam was forty-one years old when he began to reign, and he reigned seventeen years in Jerusalem, the city which the LORD had chosen out of all the tribes of Israel, to put his name there. His mother's name was Naamah the Ammonitess.
22 Ekkor Júda azt cselekedte, ami gonosz az Úr előtt, s jobban ingerelték Őt mindannál, amit atyáik cselekedtek vétkeikkel, amelyeket elkövettek.	22 And Judah did what was evil in the sight of the LORD, and they provoked him to jealousy with their sins which they committed, more than all that their fathers had done.
23 Ők is építettek ugyanis maguknak oltárokat, oszlopokat és berkeket minden magas dombon s minden lombos fa alatt,	23 For they also built for themselves high places, and pillars, and Asherim on every high hill and under every green tree;
24 sőt fiúszeretők is voltak az országban, s azoknak a népeknek minden undokságát elkövették, amelyeket az Úr eltörölt Izrael fiainak színe elől.	24 and there were also male cult prostitutes in the land. They did according to all the abominations of the nations which the LORD drove out before the people of Israel.
25 Roboám királyságának ötödik esztendejében aztán felvonult Sesák, Egyiptom királya, Jeruzsálembe,	25 In the fifth year of King Rehoboam, Shishak king of Egypt came up against Jerusalem;
26 s elvitte az Úr házának kincseit s a királyi kincseket, s elrabolt mindent, azokat az aranypajzsokat is, amelyeket Salamon készíttetett.	26 he took away the treasures of the house of the LORD and the treasures of the king's house; he took away everything. He also took away all the shields of gold which Solomon had made;
27 Ezek helyett Roboám király rézpajzsokat készíttetett, s azokat adta a pajzsosok vezéreinek kezébe s azok kezébe, akik a király házának ajtajában őrködtek.	27 and King Rehoboam made in their stead shields of bronze, and committed them to the hands of the officers of the guard, who kept the door of the king's house.
28 Valahányszor a király az Úr házába ment, felvették őket azok, akiknek az volt a tisztük, hogy előtte vonuljanak, aztán megint visszavitték a pajzsosok fegyvertárába.	28 And as often as the king went into the house of the LORD, the guard bore them and brought them back to the guardroom.
29 Roboám egyéb dolgai pedig s mindaz, amit cselekedett, íme, meg vannak írva Júda királyainak krónikás könyvében.	29 Now the rest of the acts of Rehoboam, and all that he did, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Judah?
30 Roboám és Jeroboám között ugyanis háború volt minden időben.	30 And there was war between Rehoboam and Jeroboam continually.
31 Amikor aztán Roboám aludni tért atyáihoz, eltemették melléjük Dávid városában anyját, aki ammonita volt, s Naámának hívták. Ezután a fia, Abia lett a király helyette.	31 And Rehoboam slept with his fathers and was buried with his fathers in the city of David. His mother's name was Naamah the Ammonitess. And Abijam his son reigned in his stead.
