1 He that toucheth pitch, shall be defiled with it: and he that hath fellowship with the proud, shall put on pride.	1 Qui touche à la poix se salit les doigts, qui se lie à un homme arrogant deviendra comme lui.
2 He shall take a burden upon him that hath fellowship with one more honourable than himself. And have no fellowship with one that is richer than thyself.	2 Ne te charge pas d’un fardeau trop lourd, ne te fais pas l’ami d’un plus fort et plus riche que toi. Vas-tu mettre ensemble le pot de terre et le pot de fer? L’un des deux cognera l’autre et le brisera.
3 What agreement shall the earthen pot have with the kettle? for if they knock one against the other, it shall be broken.	3 Le riche agit mal et fait mine de rien; le pauvre est insulté et il présente ses excuses.
4 The rich man hath done wrong, and yet he will fume: but the poor is wronged and must hold his peace.	4 Tant que tu es utile, il se sert de toi; quand tu n’auras plus rien, il te laissera.
5 If thou give, he will make use of thee: and if thou have nothing, he will forsake thee.	5 Il sera chez toi tant que tu auras quelque chose; il t’exploitera sans le moindre remords.
6 If thou have any thing, he will live with thee, and will make thee bare, and he will not be sorry for thee.	6 S’il a vraiment besoin de toi, il te flattera et te fera des sourires; il te promettra des merveilles et te dira de bonnes paroles: “De quoi as-tu besoin?”
7 If he have need of thee he will deceive thee, and smiling upon thee will put thee in hope; he will speak thee fair, and will say: What wantest thou?	7 Il te sera reconnaissant au point que tu en seras gêné, le temps de te prendre tout ce que tu as; après quoi il se moquera de toi. Alors, quand il te verra il s’écartera de toi, et s’il te rencontre il hochera la tête.
8 And he will shame thee by his meats, till he have drawn thee dry twice or thrice, and at last he will laugh at thee: and afterward when he seeth thee, he will forsake thee, and shake his head at thee.	8 Fais donc attention à ne pas te laisser avoir, et à ne pas te retrouver par terre par pure bêtise.
9 Humble thyself to God, and wait for his hands.	9 Quand un personnage important t’invite, remets à plus tard: il te rappellera.
10 Beware that thou be not deceived Into folly, and be humbled.	10 Ne t’avance pas trop, on pourrait te repousser; ne t’écarte pas trop, on pourrait t’oublier.
11 Be not lowly in thy wisdom, lest being humbled thou be deceived into folly.	11 Ne pense pas lui parler d’égal à égal, ne te fie pas à tous ses discours; toutes ces paroles sont une façon de te mettre à l’épreuve, il veut te soupeser en te montrant de l’intérêt.
12 If thou be invited by one that is mightier, withdraw thyself: for so he will invite thee the more.	12 Mais il répétera sans pitié tes paroles, il ne t’épargnera ni les coups ni les chaînes.
13 Be not troublesome to him, lest thou be put back: and keep not far from him, lest thou be forgotten.	13 Sois donc sur tes gardes et fais bien attention, car tu chemines avec celui qui te jettera à terre.
14 Affect not to speak with him as an equal: and believe not his many words: for by much talk he will sift thee, and smiling will examine thee concerning thy secrets.	14 NO TEXT
15 His cruel mind will lay up thy words: and he will not spare to do thee hurt, and to cast thee into prison.	15 Tout être vivant aime son semblable, tout homme aime celui qui lui est proche.
16 Take heed to thyself, and attend diligently to what thou hearest: for thou walkest in danger of thy ruin.	16 Tout animal fréquente ceux de son espèce, l’homme aussi recherche son semblable.
17 When thou hearest those things, see as it were in sleep, and thou shalt awake.	17 Le loup pourrait-il faire route avec l’agneau? C’est pareil pour le pécheur et l’homme de bien?
18 Love God all thy life, and call upon him for thy salvation.	18 Quelle paix pourrait-il y avoir entre la hyène et le chien? Et quelle paix entre le riche et le pauvre?
19 Every beast loveth its like: so also every man him that is nearest to himself.	19 Les ânes sauvages sont la proie des lions du désert: ainsi les pauvres sont une proie pour le riche.
20 All flesh shall consort with the like to itself, and every man shall associate himself to his like.	20 Un orgueilleux déteste l’humilité, un pauvre est pour le riche un objet d’horreur.
21 If the wolf shall at any time have fellowship with the lamb, so the sinner with the just.	21 Quand le riche chancelle, ses amis lui prêtent main-forte; quand le pauvre tombe, ses amis l’abandonnent.
22 What fellowship hath a holy man with a dog, or what part hath the rich with the poor?	22 Quand le riche a des problèmes, beaucoup viennent à son secours; il peut dire des sottises, on lui donne raison. Quand le pauvre commet une erreur, on lui fait des reproches, s’il dit des choses sensées on n’en tient pas compte.
23 The wild ass is the lion's prey in the desert: so also the poor are devoured by the rich.	23 Quand le riche parle tout le monde se tait, et l’on porte aux nues ses paroles; quand le pauvre a parlé on demande: “Qui est celui-là?” Et s’il trébuche on le pousse par terre.
24 And as humility is an abomination to the proud: so also the rich man abhorreth the poor.	24 La richesse est bonne quand elle est sans péché; la pauvreté n’est un mal que chez un impie qui l’a méritée.
25 When a rich man is shaken, he is kept up by his friends: but when a poor man is fallen down, he is thrust away even by his acquaintance.	25 Le cœur de l’homme se reflète sur son visage, soit en bien, soit en mal.
26 When a rich man hath been deceived, he hath many helpers: he hath spoken proud things, and they have justified him.	26 A-t-il le visage rayonnant? C’est que tout va bien pour lui. A-t-il trouvé des paroles de sagesse? C’est qu’il a réfléchi sur la souffrance..
27 The poor man was deceived, and he is rebuked also: he hath spoken wisely, and could have no place.
28 The rich man spoke, and all held their peace, and what he said they extol even to the clouds.
29 The poor man spoke, and they say: Who is this? and if he stumble, they will overthrow him.
30 Riches are good to him that hath no sin in his conscience: and poverty is very wicked in the mouth of the ungodly.
31 The heart of a man changeth his countenance, either for good, or for evil.
32 The token of a good heart, and a good countenance thou shalt hardly find, and with labour.
