1 В то время Ирод четвертовластник услышал молву об Иисусе	1 At that time Herod the tetrarch heard about the reputation of Jesus
2 и сказал служащим при нем: это Иоанн Креститель; он воскрес из мертвых, и потому чудеса делаются им.	2 and said to his court, 'This is John the Baptist himself; he has risen from the dead, and that is why miraculous powers are at work in him.'
3 Ибо Ирод, взяв Иоанна, связал его и посадил в темницу за Иродиаду, жену Филиппа, брата своего,	3 Now it was Herod who had arrested John, chained him up and put him in prison because of Herodias,his brother Philip's wife.
4 потому что Иоанн говорил ему: не должно тебе иметь ее.	4 For John had told him, 'It is against the Law for you to have her.'
5 И хотел убить его, но боялся народа, потому что его почитали за пророка.	5 He had wanted to kil him but was afraid of the people, who regarded John as a prophet.
6 Во время же [празднования] дня рождения Ирода дочь Иродиады плясала перед собранием и угодила Ироду,	6 Then, during the celebrations for Herod's birthday, the daughter of Herodias danced before thecompany and so delighted Herod
7 посему он с клятвою обещал ей дать, чего она ни попросит.	7 that he promised on oath to give her anything she asked.
8 Она же, по наущению матери своей, сказала: дай мне здесь на блюде голову Иоанна Крестителя.	8 Prompted by her mother she said, 'Give me John the Baptist's head, here, on a dish.'
9 И опечалился царь, но, ради клятвы и возлежащих с ним, повелел дать ей,	9 The king was distressed but, thinking of the oaths he had sworn and of his guests, he ordered it to begiven her,
10 и послал отсечь Иоанну голову в темнице.	10 and sent and had John beheaded in the prison.
11 И принесли голову его на блюде и дали девице, а она отнесла матери своей.	11 The head was brought in on a dish and given to the girl, who took it to her mother.
12 Ученики же его, придя, взяли тело его и погребли его; и пошли, возвестили Иисусу.	12 John's disciples came and took the body and buried it; then they went off to tell Jesus.
13 И, услышав, Иисус удалился оттуда на лодке в пустынное место один; а народ, услышав о том, пошел за Ним из городов пешком.	13 When Jesus received this news he withdrew by boat to a lonely place where they could be bythemselves. But the crowds heard of this and, leaving the towns, went after him on foot.
14 И, выйдя, Иисус увидел множество людей и сжалился над ними, и исцелил больных их.	14 So as he stepped ashore he saw a large crowd; and he took pity on them and healed their sick.
15 Когда же настал вечер, приступили к Нему ученики Его и сказали: место здесь пустынное и время уже позднее; отпусти народ, чтобы они пошли в селения и купили себе пищи.	15 When evening came, the disciples went to him and said, 'This is a lonely place, and time has slippedby; so send the people away, and they can go to the vil ages to buy themselves some food.'
16 Но Иисус сказал им: не нужно им идти, вы дайте им есть.	16 Jesus replied, 'There is no need for them to go: give them something to eat yourselves.'
17 Они же говорят Ему: у нас здесь только пять хлебов и две рыбы.	17 But they answered, 'All we have with us is five loaves and two fish.'
18 Он сказал: принесите их Мне сюда.	18 So he said, 'Bring them here to me.'
19 И велел народу возлечь на траву и, взяв пять хлебов и две рыбы, воззрел на небо, благословил и, преломив, дал хлебы ученикам, а ученики народу.	19 He gave orders that the people were to sit down on the grass; then he took the five loaves and thetwo fish, raised his eyes to heaven and said the blessing. And breaking the loaves he handed them to hisdisciples, who gave them to the crowds.
20 И ели все и насытились; и набрали оставшихся кусков двенадцать коробов полных;	20 They al ate as much as they wanted, and they col ected the scraps left over, twelve baskets full.
21 а евших было около пяти тысяч человек, кроме женщин и детей.	21 Now about five thousand men had eaten, to say nothing of women and children.
22 И тотчас понудил Иисус учеников Своих войти в лодку и отправиться прежде Его на другую сторону, пока Он отпустит народ.	22 And at once he made the disciples get into the boat and go on ahead to the other side while he sentthe crowds away.
23 И, отпустив народ, Он взошел на гору помолиться наедине; и вечером оставался там один.	23 After sending the crowds away he went up into the hil s by himself to pray. When evening came, hewas there alone,
24 А лодка была уже на средине моря, и ее било волнами, потому что ветер был противный.	24 while the boat, by now some furlongs from land, was hard pressed by rough waves, for there was ahead-wind.
25 В четвертую же стражу ночи пошел к ним Иисус, идя по морю.	25 In the fourth watch of the night he came towards them, walking on the sea,
26 И ученики, увидев Его идущего по морю, встревожились и говорили: это призрак; и от страха вскричали.	26 and when the disciples saw him walking on the sea they were terrified. 'It is a ghost,' they said, andcried out in fear.
27 Но Иисус тотчас заговорил с ними и сказал: ободритесь; это Я, не бойтесь.	27 But at once Jesus cal ed out to them, saying, 'Courage! It's me! Don't be afraid.'
28 Петр сказал Ему в ответ: Господи! если это Ты, повели мне придти к Тебе по воде.	28 It was Peter who answered. 'Lord,' he said, 'if it is you, tel me to come to you across the water.'
29 Он же сказал: иди. И, выйдя из лодки, Петр пошел по воде, чтобы подойти к Иисусу,	29 Jesus said, 'Come.' Then Peter got out of the boat and started walking towards Jesus across thewater,
30 но, видя сильный ветер, испугался и, начав утопать, закричал: Господи! спаси меня.	30 but then noticing the wind, he took fright and began to sink. 'Lord,' he cried, 'save me!'
31 Иисус тотчас простер руку, поддержал его и говорит ему: маловерный! зачем ты усомнился?	31 Jesus put out his hand at once and held him. 'You have so little faith,' he said, 'why did you doubt?'
32 И, когда вошли они в лодку, ветер утих.	32 And as they got into the boat the wind dropped.
33 Бывшие же в лодке подошли, поклонились Ему и сказали: истинно Ты Сын Божий.	33 The men in the boat bowed down before him and said, 'Truly, you are the Son of God.'
34 И, переправившись, прибыли в землю Геннисаретскую.	34 Having made the crossing, they came to land at Gennesaret.
35 Жители того места, узнав Его, послали во всю окрестность ту и принесли к Нему всех больных,	35 When the local people recognised him they spread the news through the whole neighbourhood andtook al that were sick to him,
36 и просили Его, чтобы только прикоснуться к краю одежды Его; и которые прикасались, исцелялись.	36 begging him just to let them touch the fringe of his cloak. And al those who touched it were saved.
