1 Atravesaron Anfípolis y Apolonia, y llegaron a Tesalónica, donde los judíos tenían una sinagoga.	1 And when they had passed through Amphipolis and Apollonia, they came to Thessalonica, where there was a synagogue of the Jews.
2 Pablo, como de costumbre, se dirigió a ellos y discutió durante tres sábados, basándose en la Escritura.	2 And Paul, according to his custom, went in unto them; and for three sabbath days he reasoned with them out of the scriptures:
3 Explicaba los textos y demostraba que el Mesías debía sufrir y resucitar de entre los muertos. «Y el Mesías, afirmaba, es este Jesús que yo les anuncio».	3 Declaring and insinuating that the Christ was to suffer, and to rise again from the dead; and that this is Jesus Christ, whom I preach to you.
4 Algunos se convencieron y se unieron al grupo de Pablo y de Silas, lo mismo que un gran número de adoradores de Dios, de paganos y no pocas mujeres influyentes.	4 And some of them believed, and were associated to Paul and Silas; and of those that served God, and of the Gentiles a great multitude, and of noble women not a few.
5 Llenos de envidia, los judíos reunieron un grupo de gente de la calle y promovieron un alboroto, sembrando la agitación en la ciudad. Entonces se presentaron delante de la casa de Jasón en busca de Pablo y de Silas, para conducirlos ante la asamblea del pueblo.	5 But the Jews, moved with envy, and taking unto them some wicked men of the vulgar sort, and making a tumult, set the city in an uproar; and besetting Jason's house, sought to bring them out unto the people.
6 Como no los encontraron, arrastraron a Jasón y a algunos hermanos ante los magistrados de la ciudad, gritando: «Esos que han revolucionado todo el mundo, han venido también aquí	6 And not finding them, they drew Jason and certain brethren to the rulers of the city, crying: They that set the city in an uproar, are come hither also;
7 y Jasón los ha recibido en su casa. Toda esta gente contraviene los edictos del Emperador, pretendiendo que hay otro rey, llamado Jesús».	7 Whom Jason hath received; and these all do contrary to the decrees of Caesar, saying that there is another king, Jesus.
8 Estos gritos impresionaron mucho a la multitud y a los magistrados,	8 And they stirred up the people, and the rulers of the city hearing these things,
9 y solamente después de haber exigido una fianza de parte de Jasón y de los otros, los pusieron en libertad.	9 And having taken satisfaction of Jason and of the rest, they let them go.
10 Esa misma noche, los hermanos hicieron partir a Pablo y a Silas hacia Berea. En cuanto llegaron, se dirigieron a la sinagoga de los judíos.	10 But the brethren immediately sent away Paul and Silas by night unto Berea. Who, when they were come thither, went into the synagogue of the Jews.
11 Como estos eran mejores que los de Tesalónica, acogieron la Palabra con sumo interés, y examinaban todos los días las Escrituras para verificar la exactitud de lo que oían.	11 Now these were more noble than those in Thessalonica, who received the word with all eagerness, daily searching the scriptures, whether these things were so.
12 Muchos de ellos abrazaron la fe, lo mismo que algunos paganos, entre los cuales había mujeres de la aristocracia y un buen número de hombres.	12 And many indeed of them believed, and of honourable women that were Gentiles, and of men not a few.
13 Pero, cuando los judíos de Tesalónica se enteraron de que Pablo había anunciado la Palabra de Dios también en Berea, fueron allí a perturbar a la multitud sembrando la agitación.	13 And when the Jews of Thessalonica had knowledge that the word of God was also preached by Paul at Berea, they came thither also, stirring up and troubling the multitude.
14 Entonces los hermanos hicieron partir inmediatamente a Pablo en dirección al mar; Silas y Timoteo, en cambio, permanecieron allí.	14 And then immediately the brethren sent away Paul, to go unto the sea; but Silas and Timothy remained there.
15 Los que acompañaban a Pablo lo condujeron hasta Atenas, y luego volvieron con la orden de que Silas y Timoteo se reunieran con él lo más pronto posible.	15 And they that conducted Paul, brought him as far as Athens; and receiving a commandment from him to Silas and Timothy, that they should come to him with all speed, they departed.
16 Mientras los esperaba en Atenas, Pablo sentía que la indignación se apoderaba de él, al contemplar la ciudad llena de ídolos.	16 Now whilst Paul waited for them at Athens, his spirit was stirred within him, seeing the city wholly given to idolatry.
17 Discutía en la sinagoga con los judíos y con los que adoraban a Dios, y también lo hacía diariamente en la plaza pública con los que pasaban por allí.	17 He disputed, therefore, in the synagogue with the Jews, and with them that served God, and in the marketplace, every day with them that were there.
18 Incluso, algunos filósofos epicúreos y estoicos dialogaban con él. Algunos comentaban: «¿Qué estará diciendo este charlatán?», y otros: «Parece ser un predicador de divinidades extranjeras», porque Pablo anunciaba a Jesús y la resurrección.	18 And certain philosophers of the Epicureans and of the Stoics disputed with him; and some said: What is it, that this word sower would say? But others: He seemeth to be a setter forth of new gods; because he preached to them Jesus and the resurrection.
19 Entonces lo llevaron con ellos al Areópago y le dijeron: «¿Podríamos saber en qué consiste la nueva doctrina que tú enseñas?	19 And taking him, they brought him to the Areopagus, saying: May we know what this new doctrine is, which thou speakest of?
20 Las cosas que nos predicas nos parecen extrañas y quisiéramos saber qué significan».	20 For thou bringest in certain new things to our ears. We would know therefore what these things mean.
21 Porque todos los atenienses y los extranjeros que residían allí, no tenían otro pasatiempo que el de transmitir o escuchar la última novedad.	21 (Now all the Athenians, and strangers that were there, employed themselves in nothing else, but either in telling or in hearing some new thing.)
22 Pablo, de pie, en medio del Aréopago, dijo: Atenienses, veo que ustedes son, desde todo punto de vista, los más religiosos de todos los hombres.	22 But Paul standing in the midst of the Areopagus, said: Ye men of Athens, I perceive that in all things you are too superstitious.
23 En efecto, mientras me paseaba mirando los monumentos sagrados que ustedes tienen, encontré entre otras cosas un altar con esta inscripción: «Al dios desconocido». Ahora, yo vengo a anunciarles eso que ustedes adoran sin conocer.	23 For passing by, and seeing your idols, I found an altar also, on which was written: To the unknown God. What therefore you worship, without knowing it, that I preach to you:
24 El Dios que ha hecho el mundo y todo lo que hay en él no habita en templos hechos por manos de hombre, porque es el Señor del cielo y de la tierra.	24 God, who made the world, and all things therein; he, being Lord of heaven and earth, dwelleth not in temples made with hands;
25 Tampoco puede ser servido por manos humanas como si tuviera necesidad de algo, ya que él da a todos la vida, el aliento y todas las cosas.	25 Neither is he served with men's hands, as though he needed any thing; seeing it is he who giveth to all life, and breath, and all things:
26 El hizo salir de un solo principio a todo el género humano para que habite sobre toda la tierra, y señaló de antemano a cada pueblo sus épocas y sus fronteras,	26 And hath made of one, all mankind, to dwell upon the whole face of the earth, determining appointed times, and the limits of their habitation.
27 para que ellos busquen a Dios, aunque sea a tientas, y puedan encontrarlo. Porque en realidad, él no está lejos de cada uno de nosotros.	27 That they should seek God, if happily they may feel after him or find him, although he be not far from every one of us:
28 En efecto, en él vivimos, nos movemos y existimos, como muy bien lo dijeron algunos poetas de ustedes: «Nosotros somos también de su raza».	28 For in him we live, and move, and are; as some also of your own poets said: For we are also his offspring.
29 Y si nosotros somos de la raza de Dios, no debemos creer que la divinidad es semejante al oro, la plata o la piedra, trabajados por el arte y el genio del hombre.	29 Being therefore the offspring of God, we must not suppose the divinity to be like unto gold, or silver, or stone, the graving of art, and device of man.
30 Pero ha llegado el momento en que Dios, pasando por alto el tiempo de la ignorancia, manda a todos los hombres, en todas partes, que se arrepientan.	30 And God indeed having winked at the times of this ignorance, now declareth unto men, that all should every where do penance.
31 Porque él ha establecido un día para juzgar al universo con justicia, por medio de un Hombre que él ha destinado y acreditado delante de todos, haciéndolo resucitar de entre los muertos».	31 Because he hath appointed a day wherein he will judge the world in equity, by the man whom he hath appointed; giving faith to all, by raising him up from the dead.
32 Al oír las palabras «resurrección de los muertos», unos se burlaban y otros decían: «Otro día te oiremos hablar sobre esto».	32 And when they had heard of the resurrection of the dead, some indeed mocked, but others said: We will hear thee again concerning this matter.
33 Así fue cómo Pablo se alejó de ellos.	33 So Paul went out from among them.
34 Sin embargo, algunos lo siguieron y abrazaron la fe. Entre ellos, estaban Dionisio el Areopagita, una mujer llamada Dámaris y algunos otros.	34 But certain men adhering to him, did believe; among whom was also Dionysius, the Areopagite, and a woman named Damaris, and others with them.
