BIBLIA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Vio Balaam que agradaba a Yahveh bendecir a Israel, y ya no fue como las otras veces al encuentro de los augurios, sino que se volvió cara al desierto.	1 Balaam then saw that it pleased Yahweh to bless Israel. He did not go as before to seek omens butturned towards the desert.
2 Y al alzar los ojos, vio Balaam a Israel acampado por tribus. Y le invadió el espíritu de Dios.	2 Raising his eyes Balaam saw Israel settled tribe by tribe; the spirit of God came on him
3 Entonó su trova y dijo: «Oráculo de Balaam, hijo de Beor, oráculo del varón clarividente.	3 and he declaimed his poem, as fol ows: The prophecy of Balaam son of Beor, the prophecy of theman with far-seeing eyes,
4 Oráculo del que oye los dichos de Dios, del que ve la visión de Sadday del que obtiene respuesta, y se le abren los ojos.	4 the prophecy of one who hears the words of God. He sees what Shaddai makes him see, receivesthe divine answer, and his eyes are opened.
5 ¡Qué hermosas son tus tiendas, Jacob, y tus moradas, Israel!	5 How fair your tents are, Jacob, how fair your dwel ings, Israel,
6 Como valles espaciosos, como jardines a la vera del río, como áloes que plantó Yahveh, como cedros a la orilla de las aguas.	6 like val eys that stretch afar, like gardens by the banks of a river, like aloes planted by Yahweh, likecedars beside the waters!
7 Sale un héroe de su descendencia, domina sobre pueblos numerosos. Se alza su rey por encima de Agag, se alza su reinado.	7 A hero arises from their stock, he reigns over countless peoples. His king is greater than Agag, andhis kingship held in honour.
8 Dios le hace salir de Egipto, como cuernos de búfalo es para él. Devora el cadáver de sus enemigos y les quebranta los huesos.	8 God has brought him out of Egypt, is like the wild ox's horns to him. He devours the corpses of hisenemies, breaking their bones, piercing them with his arrows.
9 Se agacha, se acuesta, como león, como leona, ¿quién le hará levantar? ¡Bendito el que te bendiga! ¡Maldito el que te maldiga!»	9 He has crouched, he has lain down, like a lion, like a lioness; who dare rouse him? Blessed be thosewho bless you, and accursed be those who curse you!
10 Se enfureció Balaq contra Balaam, palmoteó fuertemente, y dijo a Balaam: «Te he llamado para maldecir a mis enemigos y he aquí que los has llenado de bendiciones ya por tercera vez.	10 Balak flew into a rage with Balaam. He struck his hands together and said to Balaam, 'I brought youto curse my enemies, and you have insisted on blessing them three times over!
11 Lárgate ya a tu tierra. Te dije que te colmaría de honores, pero Yahveh te ha privado de ellos.»	11 So now go home as fast as your legs can carry you. I promised to load you with honours. Yahwehhimself has deprived you of them.'
12 Respondió Balaam a Balaq: «¿No les dije yo a los mensajeros que me enviaste:	12 Balaam retorted to Balak, 'Did I not tel the messengers you sent me,
13 “Aunque me diera Balaq su casa llena de plata y oro, no podría salirme de la orden de Yahveh, ni hacer por mi cuenta nada, bueno ni malo; lo que me diga Yahveh, eso es lo que diré?”	13 "Even if Balak gave me his house ful of gold and silver I could not go against Yahweh's order anddo anything of my own accord, whether for good or il ; whatever Yahweh says is what I shal say"?
14 Ahora, pues, que me marcho a mi pueblo, ven, que te voy a anunciar lo que hará este pueblo al cabo del tiempo.»	14 Now that I am going back to my own folk, let me warn you what this people wil do to your people, indays to come.'
15 Entonó su trova y dijo: «Oráculo de Balaam, hijo de Beor, oráculo del varón clarividente.	15 He then declaimed his poem, as fol ows: The prophecy of Balaam son of Beor, the prophecy of theman with far-seeing eyes,
16 oráculo del que escucha los dichos de Dios, del que conoce la ciencia del Altísimo; del que ve lo que le hace ver Sadday, del que obtiene la respuesta, y se le abren los ojos.	16 the prophecy of one who hears the words of God, of one who knows the knowledge of the MostHigh. He sees what Shaddai makes him see, receives the divine answer, and his eyes are opened.
17 Lo veo, aunque no para ahora, lo diviso, pero no de cerca: de Jacob avanza una estrella, un cetro surge de Israel. Aplasta las sienes de Moab, el cráneo de todos los hijos de Set.	17 I see him -- but not in the present. I perceive him -- but not close at hand: a star is emerging fromJacob, a sceptre is rising from Israel, to strike the brow of Moab, the skul s of al the children of Seth.
18 Será Edom tierra conquistada, tierra conquistada Seír. Israel despliega su poder,	18 Edom too wil be a conquered land, Seir too wil be a conquered land, when Israel exerts hisstrength,
19 Jacob domina a sus enemigos, aniquila a los fugitivos de Ar.»	19 when Jacob tramples on his enemies and destroys the last survivors of Ar.
20 Vio Balaam a Amalec, entonó su trova y dijo: «Primicias de las naciones, Amalec; pero al cabo perecerá para siempre.»	20 Balaam then looked at Amalek and declaimed his poem, as fol ows: Amalek, the earliest of nations!But his posterity wil perish forever.
21 Vio luego a los quenitas, entonó su trova y dijo: «Firme es tu morada, Caín, en la peña está puesto tu nido.	21 He then looked at the Kenites and declaimed his poem, as fol ows: Your dwel ing was firm, Kain,your nest perched high in the rock.
22 Pero el nido es de Beor; ¿hasta cuándo te tendrá cautivo Asur?	22 But the nest belongs to Beor; how long wil you be Asshur's captive?
23 Entonó luego su trova y dijo: Pueblos del Mar reviven por el Norte,	23 He then declaimed his poem, as fol ows: The Sea-people are gathering in the north,
24 barcos por el lado de Kittim. Oprimen a Asur, oprimen a Héber; también él perecerá para siempre.»	24 the vessels from the coasts of Kittim. They wil bear down on Asshur, bear down on Eber; he too willperish forever.
25 Luego se levantó Balaam, y se fue de vuelta a su país. También Balaq se fue por su camino.	25 Balaam then got up, left and went home, and Balak too went his way.
