1 Partieron de Elim, y toda la comunidad de los israelitas llegó al desierto de Sin, que está entre Elim y el Sinaí, el día quince del segundo mes después de su salida del país de Egipto.	1 And they set out from Elim. And the entire multitude of the sons of Israel arrived at the desert of Sin, which is between Elim and Sinai, on the fifteenth day of the second month, after they departed from the land of Egypt.
2 Toda la comunidad de los israelitas empezó a murmurar contra Moisés y Aarón en el desierto.	2 And the entire congregation of the sons of Israel murmured against Moses and Aaron in the wilderness.
3 Los israelitas les decían: «¡Ojalá hubiéramos muerto a manos de Yahveh en la tierra de Egipto cuando nos sentábamos junto a las ollas de carne, cuando comíamos pan hasta hartarnos! Vosotros nos habéis traído a este desierto para matar de hambre a toda esta asamblea.»	3 And the sons of Israel said to them: “If only we had died by the hand of the Lord in the land of Egypt, when we sat around bowls of meat and ate bread until filled. Why have you led us away, into this desert, so that you might kill the entire multitude with famine?”
4 Yahveh dijo a Moisés: «Mira, yo haré llover sobre vosotros pan del cielo; el pueblo saldrá a recoger cada día la porción diaria; así le pondré a prueba para ver si anda o no según mi ley.	4 Then the Lord said to Moses: “Behold, I will rain down bread from heaven for you. Let the people go out and collect what is sufficient for each day, so that I may test them, as to whether or not they will walk in my law.
5 Mas el día sexto, cuando preparen lo que hayan traído, la ración será doble que la de los demás días.»	5 But on the sixth day, let them prepare what they use for carrying, and let there be double what they were accustomed to collect on a single day.”
6 Dijeron, pues, Moisés y Aarón a toda la comunidad de los israelitas: «Esta tarde sabréis que es Yahveh quien os ha sacado del país de Egipto;	6 And Moses and Aaron said to the sons of Israel: “In the evening, you will know that the Lord has led you away from the land of Egypt.
7 y por la mañana veréis la gloria de Yahveh. Porque ha oído vuestras murmuraciones contra Yahveh; pues ¿qué somos nosotros para que murmuréis contra nosotros?»	7 And in the morning, you will see the glory of the Lord. For he has heard your murmuring against the Lord. But as for us, truly what are we, that you would whisper against us?”
8 Y añadió Moisés: «Yahveh os dará esta tarde carne para comer, y por la mañana pan en abundancia; porque Yahveh ha oído vuestras murmuraciones contra él; pues ¿qué somos nosotros? No van contra nosotros vuestras murmuraciones, sino contra Yahveh.»	8 And Moses said: “In the evening, the Lord will give you flesh to eat, and in the morning, bread in fullness. For he has heard your murmurings that you have murmured against him. For what are we? Your murmuring is not against us, but against the Lord.”
9 Dijo entonces Moisés a Aarón: «Ordena a toda la comunidad de los israelitas: Acercaos a Yahveh, pues él ha oído vuestras murmuraciones.»	9 Moses also said to Aaron: “Say to the whole congregation of the sons of Israel, ‘Approach before the Lord. For he has heard your murmuring.’ ”
10 Aún estaba hablando Aarón a toda la comunidad de los israelitas, cuando ellos miraron hacia el desierto, y he aquí que la gloria de Yahveh se apareció en forma de nube.	10 And when Aaron spoke to the entire assembly of the sons of Israel, they looked out toward the wilderness. And behold, the glory of the Lord appeared in a cloud.
11 Y Yahveh habló a Moisés, diciendo:	11 Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying:
12 «He oído las murmuraciones de los israelitas. Diles: Al atardecer comeréis carne y por la mañana os hartaréis de pan; y así sabréis que yo soy Yahveh, vuestro Dios.»	12 “I have heard the murmuring of the sons of Israel. Say to them: ‘In the evening, you will eat flesh, and in the morning, you will be filled with bread. And you shall know that I am the Lord your God.’ ”
13 Aquella misma tarde vinieron las codornices y cubrieron el campamento; y por la mañana había una capa de rocío en torno al campamento.	13 Therefore, it happened in the evening: quails, rising up, covered the camp. Likewise, in the morning, a dew lay all around the camp.
14 Y al evaporarse la capa de rocío apareció sobre el suelo del desierto una cosa menuda, como granos, parecida a la escarcha de la tierra.	14 And when it had covered the face of the earth, it appeared, in the wilderness, small and as if crushed with a pestle, similar to hoar-frost on the ground.
15 Cuando los israelitas la vieron, se decían unos a otros: «¿Qué es esto?» Pues no sabían lo que era. Moisés les dijo: «Este es el pan que Yahveh os da por alimento.	15 When the sons of Israel had seen it, they said one to another: “Manhu?” which means “What is this?” For they did not know what it was. And Moses said to them: “This is the bread that the Lord has given you to eat.
16 He aquí lo que manda Yahveh: Que cada uno recoja cuanto necesite para comer, un gomor por cabeza, según el número de los miembros de vuestra familia; cada uno recogerá para la gente de su tienda.»	16 This is the word that the Lord has instructed. Let each one collect as much of it as is sufficient to eat. One omer for each head. According to the number of your souls which live in a tent, so will you take of it.”
17 Así lo hicieron los israelitas; unos recogieron mucho y otros poco.	17 And the sons of Israel did so. And they collected: some more, others less.
18 Pero cuando lo midieron con el gomor, ni los que recogieron poco tenían de menos. Cada uno había recogido lo que necesitaba para su sustento.	18 And they measured by the measure of an omer. He who collected more, did not have too much; nor did he who prepared less, find too little. But each one gathered according to what they were able to eat.
19 Moisés les dijo: «Que nadie guarde nada para el día siguiente.»	19 And Moses said to them, “Let no one leave any of it behind until morning.”
20 Pero no obedecieron a Moisés, y algunos guardaron algo para el día siguiente; pero se llenó de gusanos y se pudrió; y Moisés se irritó contra ellos.	20 And they did not listen to him, but they left some of it behind until morning, and it began to swarm with worms, and it putrefied. And Moses became angry against them.
21 Lo recogían por las mañanas, cada cual según lo que necesitaba; y luego, con el calor del sol, se derretía.	21 Then each one collected, in the morning, as much as would be sufficient to eat. And after the sun became hot, it melted.
22 El día sexto recogieron doble ración, dos gomor por persona. Todos los jefes de la comunidad fueron a decírselo a Moisés;	22 But on the sixth day, they collected a double portion, that is, two omers for each man. Then all the leaders among the multitude came, and they discoursed with Moses.
23 él les respondió: «Esto es lo que manda Yahveh: Mañana es sábado, día de descanso consagrado a Yahveh. Coced lo que se deba cocer, hervid lo que se tenga que hervir; y lo sobrante, guardadlo como reserva para mañana.»	23 And he said to them: “This is what the Lord has spoken: Tomorrow, the rest day of the Sabbath, has been sanctified to the Lord. Whatever would be done, do it now. And whatever would be cooked, cook it now. Then anything that will have been left over, store it until morning.”
24 Ellos lo guardaron para el día siguiente, según la orden de Moisés; y no se pudrió, ni se agusanó.	24 And they did just as Moses had instructed, and it did not putrefy, nor were there any worms found in it.
25 Dijo entonces Moisés: «Hoy comeréis esto, porque es sábado de Yahveh; y en tal día no hallaréis nada en el campo.	25 And Moses said: “Eat it today, because it is the Sabbath of the Lord. Today it will not be found in the field.
26 Seis días podéis recogerlo, pero el día séptimo, que es sábado, no habrá nada.»	26 Gather for six days. But on the seventh day, it is the Sabbath of the Lord, for which reason it will not be found.”
27 A pesar de todo, salieron algunos del pueblo a recogerlo el séptimo día, pero no encontraron nada.	27 And the seventh day arrived. And some of the people, going out to collect it, did not find it.
28 Yahveh dijo a Moisés: «¿Hasta cuándo os negaréis a guardar mi mandatos y mis leyes?	28 Then the Lord said to Moses: “How long will you be unwilling to keep my commandments and my law?
29 Mirad que Yahveh os ha puesto el sábado; por eso el día sexto os da ración para dos días. Quédese cada uno en su sitio, y que nadie se mueva de su lugar el día séptimo.»	29 See how the Lord has given you the Sabbath, and, because of this, on the sixth day he distributes to you a double portion. Let each one remain with his own, and let no one go forth from his place on the seventh day.”
30 Y el día séptimo descansó el pueblo.	30 And the people kept the Sabbath on the seventh day.
31 La casa de Israel lo llamó maná. Era como semilla de cilantro, blanco, y con sabor a torta de miel.	31 And the house of Israel called its name ‘Manna.’ It was like white coriander seed, and its taste was like wheat flour with honey.
32 Dijo Moisés: «Esto manda Yahveh: Llenad un gomor de maná, y conservadlo, para vuestros descendientes, para que vean el pan con que os alimenté en el desierto cuando os saqué del país de Egipto.»	32 Then Moses said: “This is the word that the Lord has instructed: Fill an omer of it, and let it be kept for future generations hereafter, so that they may know the bread, with which I nourished you in the wilderness, when you had been led away from the land of Egypt.”
33 Dijo, pues, Moisés a Aarón: «Toma una vasija, pon en ella un gomor lleno de maná, y colócalo ante Yahveh, a fin de conservarlo para vuestros descendientes.»	33 And Moses said to Aaron, “Take one vessel, and put manna into it, as much as an omer is able to hold. And store it in the sight of the Lord, to keep for your generations,
34 Tal como Yahveh se lo mandó a Moisés, Aarón lo puso ante el Testimonio para conservarlo.	34 just as the Lord instructed Moses.” And so, Aaron placed it in the tabernacle, in reserve.
35 Los israelitas comieron el maná por espacio de cuarenta años, hasta que llegaron a tierra habitada. Lo estuvieron comiendo hasta que llegaron a los confines del país de Canaán.	35 Now the sons of Israel ate manna for forty years, until they arrived in a habitable land. With this food they were nourished, even until they touched the borders of the land of Canaan.
36 El gomor es la décima parte de la medida.	36 Now an omer is a tenth part of an ephah.
