1 Oui, la Sagesse s’étend d’une extrémité de la terre à l’autre, et partout elle établit l’ordre.	1 She reacheth therefore from end to end mightily, and ordereth all things sweetly.
2 Je l’ai aimée et désirée dès ma jeunesse; j’ai cherché à la prendre comme épouse, car j’étais amoureux de sa beauté.	2 Her have I loved, and have sought her out from my youth, and have desired to take her for my spouse, and I became a lover of her beauty.
3 Le fait qu’elle partage la vie de Dieu fait ressortir sa noble origine: le Maître de toutes choses l’a aimée.	3 She glorifieth her nobility by being conversant with God: yea and the Lord of all things hath loved her.
4 Elle est initiée à la connaissance même de Dieu, et c’est elle qui décide des œuvres à réaliser.	4 For it is she that teacheth the knowledge of God, and is the chooser of his works.
5 Si la richesse est ce qu’on désire en ce monde, y a-t-il richesse plus grande que la Sagesse, la réalisatrice universelle?	5 And if riches be desired in life, what is richer than wisdom, which maketh all things?
6 Et si l’intelligence est réalisatrice, qui donc parmi les vivants fait les choses mieux qu’elle?	6 And if sense do work: who is a more artful worker than she of those things that are?
7 Aimez-vous la droiture? Sachez que toutes les vertus sont les fruits de son labeur; elle enseigne la prudence et l’intelligence, la justice et la vaillance: il n’y a rien dans la vie qui soit plus utile aux hommes.	7 And if a man love justice: her labours have great virtues; for she teacheth temperance, and prudence, anad justice, and fortitude, which are such things as men can have nothing more profitable in life.
8 Cherche-t-on des connaissances étendues? La Sagesse connaît les choses passées et prévoit l’avenir; elle sait interpréter les discours et résoudre les énigmes, elle annonce d’avance les signes de la nature et les prodiges, la fin des âges et des temps.	8 And if a man desire much knowledge: she knoweth things past, and judgeth of things to come: she knoweth the subtilties of speeches, and the solutions of arguments: she knoweth signs and wonders before they be done, and the events of times and ages.
9 Voilà pourquoi j’ai décidé d’en faire la compagne de ma vie: je savais qu’elle me conseillerait dans les temps heureux, et me soutiendrait dans les soucis et les peines.	9 I purposed therefore to take her to me to live with me: knowing that she will communicate to me of her good things, and will be a comfort in my cares and grief.
10 “Grâce à la Sagesse, me disais-je, je serai honoré par les foules et, malgré ma jeunesse, respecté des anciens.	10 For her sake I shall have glory among the multitude, and honour with the ancients, though I be young:
11 On me reconnaîtra un jugement pénétrant, et les puissants m’admireront.	11 And I shall be found of a quick conceit in judgment, and shall be admired in the sight of the mighty, and the faces of princes shall wonder at me.
12 Si je me tais, ils seront dans l’attente; si je parle, ils seront attentifs; même si mon discours se prolonge, ils resteront à m’écouter.	12 They shall wait for me when I hold my peace, and they shall look upon me when I speak, and if I talk much they shall lay their hands on their mouths.
13 Grâce à la Sagesse j’obtiendrai l’immortalité, et je laisserai un souvenir éternel à ceux qui viendront après moi.	13 Moreover by the means of her I shall have immortality: and shall leave behind me an everlasting memory to them that come after me.
14 Je gouvernerai les peuples, et les nations me seront soumises.	14 I shall set the people in order: and nations shall be subject to me.
15 Des souverains redoutables prendront peur en entendant parler de moi; je serai bon avec mes gens et courageux à la guerre.	15 Terrible kings hearing shall be afraid of me: among the multitude I shall be found good, and valiant in war.
16 De retour chez moi, je me reposerai auprès d’elle, car sa compagnie n’est pas amère; vivre avec elle n’a rien de pénible, mais apporte au contraire, joie et bonheur.”	16 When I go into my house, I shall repose myself with her: for her conversation hath no bitterness, nor her company any tediousness, but joy and gladness.
17 Voilà comment je raisonnais en moi-même. Je comprenais qu’on trouve la vie immortelle dans l’union avec la Sagesse,	17 Thinking these things with myself, and pondering them in my heart, that to be allied to wisdom is immortality,
18 qu’on acquiert une joie supérieure grâce à son amitié, une richesse durable grâce à ses travaux, l’intelligence quand on s’exerce à l’entendre, et la renommée dans les entretiens avec elle. Je suis donc parti à sa recherche afin de la prendre chez moi.	18 And that there is great delight in her friendship, and inexhaustible riches in the works of her hands, and in the exercise of conference with her, wisdom, and glory in the communication of her words: I went about seeking, that I might take her to myself.
19 J’étais de naissance un enfant bien doté, j’avais reçu en partage une âme bonne;	19 And I was a witty child and had received a good soul.
20 ou plutôt, étant bon, j’étais venu dans un corps sans défauts.	20 And whereas I was more good, I came to a body undefiled.
21 Mais j’avais compris aussi que le seul moyen pour la posséder était que Dieu me la donne, et c’était déjà un signe d’intelligence de l’avoir compris. C’est pourquoi je me suis tourné vers le Seigneur et je l’ai supplié; de tout mon cœur je lui ai dit:	21 And as I knew that I could not otherwise be continent, except God gave it, and this also was a point of wisdom, to know whose gift it was: I went to the Lord, and besought him, and said with my whole heart:
