1 E dicovi, che quanto tempo l' erede è piccolo, non è disguagliato dal servo, con ciò sia ch' egli sia signore d'ogni cosa;	1 Now I say, That the heir, as long as he is a child, differeth nothing from a servant, though he be lord of all;
2 anzi sta, insino a quello tempo che fu ordinato dal (suo) padre, sotto il tutore suo e curatore.	2 But is under tutors and governors until the time appointed of the father.
3 E così noi, quando eravamo piccoli (di spirito), sotto li elementi di questo mondo eravamo posti a servire.	3 Even so we, when we were children, were in bondage under the elements of the world:
4 E dopo che venne il compimento del tempo, Dio mandò il suo Figliuolo, nato di femina, posto sotto la legge	4 But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law,
5 per ricomperare coloro ch' erano sotto la legge, e perchè ricevessimo adottamento (e desiderio) di figliuoli.	5 To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons.
6 E imperò che siete figliuoli di Dio, Dio mandò il Spirito del suo Figliuolo nelli cuori vostri, il quale chiamò: Abba, Padre.	6 And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father.
7 Adunque già non è servo, ma è figliuolo; e s'è figliuolo, è erede per Dio.	7 Wherefore thou art no more a servant, but a son; and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ.
8 E voi in qua dietro, non conoscendo Dio, serviste a coloro li quali naturalmente non erano dii.	8 Howbeit then, when ye knew not God, ye did service unto them which by nature are no gods.
9 Ma ora, quando conoscete Dio, anzi siete conosciuti da Dio, ancora vi rivolgete a quelli elementi fragili e poveri, alli quali volete servire,	9 But now, after that ye have known God, or rather are known of God, how turn ye again to the weak and beggarly elements, whereunto ye desire again to be in bondage?
10 osservando (e venerando) certi mesi e dì, e tempi e anni?	10 Ye observe days, and months, and times, and years.
11 E ho paura, ch' io non abbia durata fatica in vano in voi.	11 I am afraid of you, lest I have bestowed upon you labour in vain.
12 Voglio siate secondo che son io, e io voglio essere come voi. Fratelli, priegovi: niente m' avete fatto danno.	12 Brethren, I beseech you, be as I am; for I am as ye are: ye have not injured me at all.
13 E sapete che per infirmità della carne evangelizzai a voi già primieramente, e non schivaste la vostra tentazione nella mia carne,	13 Ye know how through infirmity of the flesh I preached the gospel unto you at the first.
14 e non mi rigettaste; ma secondo che angelo di Dio ricevestemi, e secondo che Iesù Cristo.	14 And my temptation which was in my flesh ye despised not, nor rejected; but received me as an angel of God, even as Christ Jesus.
15 Adunque dov'è la beatitudine vostra? Bene posso rendere testimonianza di voi, che se potesse essere fatto (e fosse fatto convenevole), voi vi avreste tratti gli occhi, e avrestigli a me dati.	15 Where is then the blessedness ye spake of? for I bear you record, that, if it had been possible, ye would have plucked out your own eyes, and have given them to me.
16 Adunque ora son fatto vostro nemico, dicendo a voi il vero?	16 Am I therefore become your enemy, because I tell you the truth?
17 Sappiate che non v' amano bene (quelli che vi fanno fare questo), e voglionvi ingannare, perchè voi andiate per la loro via.	17 They zealously affect you, but not well; yea, they would exclude you, that ye might affect them.
18 Ma pregovi che seguitate il bene nel bene sempre, e non pur quando io son con voi,	18 But it is good to be zealously affected always in a good thing, and not only when I am present with you.
19 figliuoli miei, li quali io ancora parturisco, insino a tanto che Cristo si reformi in voi.	19 My little children, of whom I travail in birth again until Christ be formed in you,
20 Vorrei essere ora con voi, e muterei la mia voce; imperò che io mi vergogno di voi.	20 I desire to be present with you now, and to change my voice; for I stand in doubt of you.
21 Ditemi voi, che volete essere (e stare) sotto la legge: non leggeste voi la legge?	21 Tell me, ye that desire to be under the law, do ye not hear the law?
22 Chè certamente egli è scritto, che Abraam ebbe due figliuoli; uno della ancilla, e uno della mogliere ch' era libera.	22 For it is written, that Abraham had two sons, the one by a bondmaid, the other by a freewoman.
23 Ma quello dell' ancilla fu nato secondo la carne; e quello della mogliere legittima nacque secondo la promissione.	23 But he who was of the bondwoman was born after the flesh; but he of the freewoman was by promise.
24 Le quali cose son dette per allegoria (e intendonsi spiritualmente). Per questi due figliuoli s' intendono due testamenti. E l' uno certo fu nel monte di Sina; il quale è Agar, che genera in servitute.	24 Which things are an allegory: for these are the two covenants; the one from the mount Sinai, which gendereth to bondage, which is Agar.
25 Il monte di Sina è in Arabia, il quale è congiunto a quel monte, dove è Ierusalem, e serve con i suoi figliuoli.	25 For this Agar is mount Sinai in Arabia, and answereth to Jerusalem which now is, and is in bondage with her children.
26 Ma quella Ierusalem la quale è di sopra (in cielo), quella è libera (e franca), la quale è nostra madre.	26 But Jerusalem which is above is free, which is the mother of us all.
27 Imperò ch' egli è scritto: allègrati tu, che se' sterile e non parturisci; rompi e grida tu che non fai figliuoli; chè molti son più li figliuoli dell' abbandonata, che di quella che ha marito.	27 For it is written, Rejoice, thou barren that bearest not; break forth and cry, thou that travailest not: for the desolate hath many more children than she which hath an husband.
28 Ma noi, fratelli, secondo Isaac siamo figliuoli di promissione.	28 Now we, brethren, as Isaac was, are the children of promise.
29 E secondo che allora quello ch' era nato secondo la carne, facea persecuzione a colui ch' era secondo il spirito, e così avviene ora.	29 But as then he that was born after the flesh persecuted him that was born after the Spirit, even so it is now.
30 Ma che dice la Scrittura? Caccia via l'ancilla e il suo figliuolo; perchè non sarà erede il figliuolo dell' ancilla col figliuolo della libera (e franca).	30 Nevertheless what saith the scripture? Cast out the bondwoman and her son: for the son of the bondwoman shall not be heir with the son of the freewoman.
31 Adunque, fratelli, non siamo figliuoli dell' ancilla, ma di quella ch' è (franca e) libera; per la quale libertà Cristo liberò noi (e francoe).	31 So then, brethren, we are not children of the bondwoman, but of the free.
