1 Nel dì XXIIII del mese, nel VI mese, nell'anno secondo di Dario re.	1 on the twenty-first day of the seventh month, the word of Yahweh was addressed through the prophetHaggai, as follows,
2 Nel mese VII, nel dì XXI del mese, parlò il Signore in mano di Aggeo profeta, dicendo:	2 'You are to speak to Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel governor of Judah, to Joshua son of Jehozadak thehigh priest and to the remnant of the people. Say this,
3 Parla a Zorobabel figliuolo di Salatiel, duca di Giuda, e a Iesù figliuolo di Iosedec, sacerdote grande, e a tutti gli altri del popolo, dicendo:	3 "Is there anyone left among you who saw this Temple in its former glory? And how does it look to younow? Does it not seem as though there is nothing there?
4 Quale di voi ci è rimaso, il quale abbia veduto questa casa nella gloria sua prima? e che vedete voi, ch' ella sia ora? or non è ella ora così come s'ella non fosse negli occhi vostri?	4 But take courage now, Zerubbabel!-Yahweh declares. Courage, Joshua son of Jehozadak high priest!Courage, al you people of the country!-Yahweh declares. To work! I am with you -- Yahweh Sabaoth declares-
5 E ora dice il Signore: confòrtati, Zorobabel, e confortati, Iesù figliuolo di Iosedec, sacerdote grande; e confortati, tutto il popolo della terra, dice il Signore degli esèrciti; e fate, però ch' io sono con voi, dice il Signore degli esèrciti,	5 and my spirit is present among you. Do not be afraid!
6 la parola ch' io patteggiai con voi, quando voi usciste della terra d' Egitto; e lo spirito mio sarà nel mezzo di voi, non vogliate temere.	6 For Yahweh Sabaoth says this: A little while now, and I shal shake the heavens and the earth, the seaand the dry land.
7 Però che queste parole dice il Signore degli esèrciti: (che) stante ancora un poco, io moverò il cielo e la terra, il mare e l'arida.	7 I shal shake al the nations, and the treasures of al the nations will flow in, and I shal fil this Templewith glory, says Yahweh Sabaoth.
8 E moverò le genti; e verrà il Desiderato da tutte le genti; ed empierò questa casa di gloria, dice il Signore degli esèrciti.	8 Mine is the silver, mine the gold!-Yahweh Sabaoth declares.
9 Mio è l'argento, e mio è l'oro, dice il Signore degli esèrciti.	9 The glory of this new Temple wil surpass that of the old, says Yahweh Sabaoth, and in this place I shalgive peace -- Yahweh Sabaoth declares." '
10 Grande sarà la gloria di questa casa ultima, più che della prima, dice il Signore degli esèrciti; e in questo luogo darò pace, dice il Signore degli esèrciti.	10 On the twenty-fourth day of the ninth month, in the second year of Darius, the word of Yahweh wasaddressed to the prophet Haggai as fol ows,
11 Nel dì XXIIII del mese IX, nell' anno secondo di Dario re, parlò il Signore ad Aggeo profeta, dicendo:	11 'Yahweh Sabaoth says this, "Ask the priests to give a ruling on this:
12 Queste parole dice il Signore degli esèrciti: addomanda li sacerdoti della legge, dicendoli :	12 If someone is carrying consecrated meat in the fold of his gown and al ows the fold to touch bread,broth, wine, oil or food of any kind, wil that become holy?" ' The priests replied, 'No.'
13 Se l' uomo porterà la carne santificata nella stremità del vestimento suo, e dalla sommità d' esso vestimento toccherà pane o companatico o vino, ovvero olio o qualunque cibo, or sarà santificata quella cosa che toccherà? E rispondendo li sacerdoti, dissono: non.	13 Haggai then said, 'If anyone rendered unclean by contact with a corpse touches any of these things,wil that become unclean?' The priests replied, 'It wil become unclean.'
14 E Aggeo disse: se l'uomo polluto (e sozzo) nell' anima toccherà di tutte queste cose, or sarà contaminata quella cosa? Rispuosono i sacerdoti, e dissono contaminata sarà.	14 Haggai then spoke out. 'It is the same with this people,' he said, 'the same with this nation, in my view-- Yahweh declares -- the same with everything they turn their hands to; and whatever they offer here is unclean.
15 E rispose Aggeo, e disse: così questo popolo, e così questa gente dinanzi dalla faccia mia, disse il Signore, e così ogni opera delle loro mani; e tutte le cose, che loro mi offeriranno, saranno contaminate.	15 'So now think carefully, today and henceforth: before one stone had been laid on another in thesanctuary of Yahweh,
16 E ora ponetevi cura da questo di addietro, inanzi che si ponesse pietra sopra pietra nel tempio del Signore.	16 what state were you in? You would come to a twenty-measure heap and find only ten; you wouldcome to a vat to draw fifty measures and find only twenty.
17 Che quando voi andavate al monte di XX moggia, ed egli diventavano X; quando voi entravate ne' canali (a pigliare) per cavarne L barili, diventavano XX.	17 Everything you turned your hands to, I struck with wind-blast, mildew and hail, and stil you would notreturn to me -- Yahweh declares.
18 Io v' ho percosso di vento ardente, e di vento corrotto e di grandine tutte l'opere delle mani vostre; e non fu tra voi chi ritornasse a me, dice il Signore.	18 So think careful y, today and henceforth (from the twenty-fourth day of the ninth month, from the daythe foundation of the sanctuary of Yahweh was laid, think careful y)
19 Ponetevi a cura da questo dì inanzi per l'avvenire, dal dì XXIIII del VIIII mese; dal dì che furono posti i fondamenti del tempio del Signore, ponete mente.	19 if seed-corn is stil short in the barn, and if vine and fig tree, pomegranate and olive tree still bear nofruit. 'From today onwards I intend to bless you.'
20 Se già il seme non germina, e se anco la vigna e il fico e il melagrano e il legno della uliva non fiorisce? da questo di inanzi gli benedirò.	20 On the twenty-fourth day of the month the word of Yahweh was addressed a second time to Haggai,as fol ows,
21 E parlò il Signore la seconda volta ad Aggeo nel XXIIII dì del mese, dicendo:	21 'Speak to Zerubbabel governor of Judah. Say this, "I am going to shake the heavens and the earth.
22 Parla a Zorobabel, duca di Giuda, dicendoli: io moverò il cielo, e anche la terra.	22 I shal overturn the thrones of kingdoms and destroy the power of the kings of the nations. I shalloverthrow the chariots and their crews; horses and their riders wil fall, every one to the sword of his comrade.
23 E sovvertirò la sedia de' reami, e attriterò la fortezza del reame delle genti; e sovvertirò il carro, il cavallo, il cavalcatore suo; e discenderanno i cavalli e li cavalcatori loro; e sarà l' uomo ucciso di coltello dal fratello suo.	23 When that day comes -- Yahweh Sabaoth declares -- I shal take you, Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel myservant -- Yahweh declares -- and make you like a signet ring. For I have chosen you -- Yahweh Sabaothdeclares." '
24 In quel dì, dice il Signore degli esèrciti, io prenderò te, Zorobabel figliuolo di Salatiel, servo mio, dice il Signore; e porrotti come segnacolo però ch' io t'ho eletto, dice il Signore degli esèrciti.
