1 Gdy Adonisedek, król Jerozolimy, usłyszał, że Jozue zdobył Aj i obłożył je klątwą na zniszczenie, postępując tak samo z Aj i jego królem, jak postąpił z Jerychem i jego królem, oraz że mieszkańcy Gibeonu zawarli pokój z Izraelitami i zamieszkali pośród nich,	1 Now, it happened that Adoni-Zedek king of Jerusalem, learned that Joshua had conquered Ai and putthe town under the curse of destruction, treating Ai and its king as he had already treated Jericho and its king;and also that the inhabitants of Gibeon had made peace with Israel and were living with them.
2 wywołało to wielkie przerażenie, gdyż Gibeon było miastem wielkim, jak jedno z miast królewskich, większe było od Aj, a wszyscy mieszkańcy byli waleczni.	2 There was consternation at this, since Gibeon was as important a town as any of the royal townsthemselves (it was larger than Ai), while al its citizens were fighting men.
3 Przeto Adonisedek, król Jerozolimy, posłał wezwanie do Hohama, króla Hebronu, do Pirama, króla Jarmutu, do Jafii, króla Lakisz, i do Debira, króla Eglonu:	3 Consequently, Adoni-Zedek king of Jerusalem sent word to Hoham king of Hebron, Piram king ofJarmuth, Japhia king of Lachish, and Debir king of Eglon,
4 Przybądźcie mi na pomoc, abyśmy razem zwalczyli Gibeonitów, ponieważ zawarli pokój z Jozuem i z Izraelitami.	4 'Join me up here and help me to conquer Gibeon, since it has made peace with Joshua and theIsraelites.'
5 Połączyło się więc pięciu królów amoryckich: król Jerozolimy, król Hebronu, król Jarmutu, król Lakisz i król Eglonu - oni i całe ich wojsko oblegli Gibeon i uderzyli na nie.	5 The five Amorite kings joined forces and went up there, that is, the king of Jerusalem, the king ofHebron, the king of Jarmuth, the king of Lachish and the king of Eglon, they and al their armies; laying siege toGibeon, they attacked it.
6 Mieszkańcy Gibeonu posłali prośbę do Jozuego do obozu w Gilgal: Nie cofaj swej ręki od sług twoich. Przybądź pośpiesznie do nas, uwolnij nas i pomóż, ponieważ wszyscy królowie amoryccy, którzy mieszkają w górach, sprzymierzyli się przeciw nam.	6 The men of Gibeon sent word to Joshua in the camp at Gilgal, 'Do not desert your servants; come uphere quickly to save us and help us, since al the Amorite kings living in the highlands have al ied themselvesagainst us.'
7 Wyruszył Jozue z Gilgal wraz z całym swym zbrojnym ludem i wszystkimi dzielnymi wojownikami.	7 Joshua came up from Gilgal, he, al the fighting men and all the bravest of his army.
8 I rzekł Pan do Jozuego: Nie bój się ich, albowiem oddałem ich w twoje ręce, żaden z nich nie oprze się tobie.	8 Yahweh said to Joshua, 'Do not be afraid of these people; I have put them at your mercy; not one ofthem wil put up any resistance.'
9 I natarł na nich Jozue niespodziewanie po całonocnym marszu z Gilgal.	9 Having marched from Gilgal throughout the night, Joshua caught them unawares.
10 A Pan napełnił ich strachem na sam widok Izraela i zadał im wielką klęskę pod Gibeonem. Ścigano ich w stronę wzgórza Bet-Choron i bito aż do Azeki i Makkedy.	10 Yahweh threw them into disorder at the sight of Israel, defeating them completely at Gibeon;furthermore, he pursued them by way of the Descent of Beth-Horon and harassed them as far as Azekah (andas far as Makkedah).
11 Gdy w czasie ucieczki przed Izraelem byli na zboczu pod Bet-Choron, Pan zrzucał na nich z nieba ogromne kamienie aż do Azeki, tak że wyginęli. I więcej ich zmarło wskutek kamieni gradowych, niż ich zginęło od miecza Izraelitów.	11 And as they fled from Israel down the Descent of Beth-Horon, Yahweh hurled huge hailstones fromheaven on them all the way to Azekah, and they died. More of them died under the hailstones than under theswords of the Israelites.
12 W dniu, w którym Pan podał Amorytów w moc Izraelitów, rzekł Jozue w obecności Izraelitów: Stań słońce, nad Gibeonem! I ty, księżycu, nad doliną Ajjalonu!	12 Joshua then spoke to Yahweh, the day Yahweh delivered the Amorites to the Israelites. In thepresence of Israel, Joshua said: Sun, stand stil over Gibeon, and, moon, you too, over the Vale of Aijalon!
13 I zatrzymało się słońce, i stanął księżyc, aż pomścił się lud nad wrogami swymi. Czyż nie jest to napisane w Księdze Sprawiedliwego: Zatrzymało się słońce na środku nieba i prawie cały dzień nie spieszyło do zachodu?	13 And the sun stood stil , and the moon halted, until the people had taken vengeance on their enemies.Is this not written in the Book of the Just? The sun stood still in the middle of the sky and delayed its setting foralmost a whole day.
14 Nie było podobnego dnia ani przedtem, ani potem, gdy Pan usłuchał głosu człowieka. Rzeczywiście Pan sam walczył za Izraela.	14 There was never a day like that before or since, when Yahweh obeyed the voice of a man -- forYahweh was fighting for Israel.
15 Jozue, a z nim cały Izrael, wrócił do obozu w Gilgal.	15 Joshua, and al Israel with him, then went back to the camp at Gilgal.
16 Pięciu owych królów uciekło i ukryło się w jaskini obok Makkedy.	16 As regards the five kings, these had fled and hidden in the cave of Makkedah,
17 I powiadomiono Jozuego słowami: Pięciu królów znaleziono ukrytych w jaskini Makkedy.	17 and news of this was brought to Joshua. 'The five kings have been found hiding in the cave atMakkedah.'
18 Jozue odpowiedział: Wtoczcie wielkie kamienie w otwór jaskini i postawcie przy niej ludzi, aby ich strzegli.	18 Joshua said, 'Rol great stones over the mouth of the cave and post men there to keep guard.
19 Wy zaś nie stójcie bezczynnie, ścigajcie waszych wrogów, zabijajcie schwytanych i nie pozwalajcie im wejść do ich miast, ponieważ Pan, Bóg wasz, wydał ich w wasze ręce.	19 You yourselves, do not stay there doing nothing; pursue the enemy, cut off their line of retreat and donot let them enter their towns, for Yahweh your God has put them at your mercy.'
20 Jozue i Izraelici zadali im straszliwą klęskę, aż do całkowitego ich wyniszczenia, tak że tylko niektórzy uciekli żywi i skryli się w miastach warownych.	20 When Joshua and the Israelites had finished inflicting a very great defeat on them, to the point ofdestroying them, those who had escaped alive took refuge in their fortresses.
21 Wrócił więc cały lud zdrów i cały do obozu Jozuego w Makkedzie, a nikt nie odważył się nawet językiem napastować Izraelitów.	21 The people came back to Joshua's camp at Makkedah; they were all safe and sound, and no onedared to attempt anything against the Israelites.
22 Wówczas rzekł Jozue: Otwórzcie wejście do jaskini i wyprowadźcie z niej do mnie tych pięciu królów.	22 Joshua then said, 'Clear the mouth of the cave and bring the five kings out to me.'
23 Uczyniono tak i wyprowadzono do niego z jaskini owych pięciu królów: króla Jerozolimy, króla Hebronu, króla Jarmutu, króla Lakisz i króla Eglonu.	23 They did so, and brought the five kings out of the cave to take them to him: the king of Jerusalem, theking of Hebron, the king of Jarmuth, the king of Lachish and the king of Eglon.
24 Skoro przyprowadzono owych królów do Jozuego, Jozue wezwał wszystkich mężów izraelskich i rzekł do dowódców wojennych, którzy mu towarzyszyli: Zbliżcie się i postawcie wasze nogi na karkach tych królów. Zbliżyli się i postawili swe nogi na ich karkach.	24 When these kings had been brought out, Joshua assembled al the men of Israel and said to thechiefs of the warriors who had fought with him, 'Come forward and put your feet on the necks of these kings!'They came forward and put their feet on their necks.
25 Wtedy Jozue rzekł do nich: Odrzućcie bojaźń i strach, bądźcie mężni i mocni, gdyż tak uczyni Pan wszystkim wrogom waszym, z którymi walczyć będziecie.	25 'Be fearless and undaunted,' Joshua went on, 'be strong and stand firm, for this is how Yahweh wildeal with al the enemies you fight.'
26 A potem Jozue wymierzył im cios śmiertelny i kazał powiesić ich na pięciu drzewach, na których wisieli aż do wieczora.	26 With this, Joshua struck and killed them and had them hanged on five trees; they hung there tillevening.
27 A o zachodzie słońca na rozkaz Jozuego zdjęto ich z drzew i wrzucono do jaskini, w której się ukrywali. Wejście do jaskini zasypano wielkimi kamieniami, które leżą tam aż do dnia dzisiejszego.	27 At the hour of sunset, on Joshua's orders, they were taken down from the trees and thrown into thecave where they had been hiding. Great stones were laid over the mouth of the cave, and these are stil there tothis very day.
28 Tego samego dnia Jozue zdobył Makkedę i pobił ją ostrzem miecza, króla zaś jej i wszystkich żywych w mieście obłożył klątwą, tak że nikt nie ocalał. A z królem Makkedy postąpił tak, jak z królem Jerycha.	28 The same day Joshua captured Makkedah, putting it and its king to the sword; he delivered themover to the curse of destruction, with every living creature there, and let no one escape, and he treated the kingof Makkedah as he had treated the king of Jericho.
29 Następnie Jozue z całym Izraelem udał się z Makkedy do Libny i natarł na Libnę.	29 Joshua, and al Israel with him, went on from Makkedah to Libnah and attacked it
30 I wydał ją Pan w ręce Izraela wraz z jej królem; zdobyli ją ostrzem miecza i zabili wszystkich żyjących, tak że nikt nie ocalał; a z królem jej postąpił tak, jak postąpił z królem Jerycha.	30 and Yahweh put this, too, and its king at Israel's mercy; and Israel put every living creature there tothe sword, and left none alive, and treated its king like the king of Jericho.
31 Jozue z całym Izraelem udał się następnie z Libny do Lakisz, obległ je i natarł na nie.	31 Joshua, and al Israel with him, went on from Libnah to Lachish and besieged it and attacked it.
32 I wydał Pan również Lakisz w ręce Izraela, który na drugi dzień zdobył je i zabił ostrzem miecza wszystkich żyjących w nim, zupełnie tak, jak uczynił z Libną.	32 Yahweh put Lachish at Israel's mercy, and Israel took it on the second day and put it and every livingcreature in it to the sword, as they had treated Libnah.
33 Wówczas Horam, król Gezer, przybył, aby wspomóc Lakisz, lecz Jozue zadał mu taką klęskę, iż z jego ludu nikt nie ocalał.	33 Horam king of Gezer then marched up to help Lachish, but Joshua beat him and his people until notone was left alive.
34 Później Jozue, a z nim cały Izrael udali się z Lakisz do Eglonu, oblegli go i natarli na niego.	34 Joshua, and al Israel with him, went on from Lachish to Eglon. They besieged it and attacked it.

That day he delivered over to the curse ofdestruction every living creature there, treating it as he had treated Lachish.
36 Z Eglonu udał się Jozue, a z nim cały Izrael do Hebronu i natarł na niego.	36 Joshua, and al Israel with him, went on up from Eglon to Hebron. They attacked it,
37 I zdobyli go, i porazili ostrzem miecza jego króla i wszystkich mieszkańców przyległych jego miast, nie pozostawiając nikogo przy życiu, jak uczynił [Jozue] z Eglonem. Miasto i wszystko, co w nim żyło, zostało również obłożone klątwą.	37 took it and put it to the sword, with its king, its dependencies and every living creature in it. As he hadtreated Eglon, so here, he left no one alive. He delivered it over to the curse of destruction, with every livingcreature in it.
38 Jozue wraz z całym Izraelem wrócił do Debiru i natarł na niego.	38 Joshua, and al Israel with him, then turned back on Debir and attacked it.
39 I zdobył go wraz z jego królem i wszystkimi przyległymi doń miastami: pobili go ostrzem miecza i obłożyli klątwą wszystko, co w nim żyło, nie oszczędzając nikogo. Jak postąpił z Hebronem, tak uczynił z Debirem i jego królem, jak przedtem uczynił z Libną i jej królem.	39 He took it and its king and al the places belonging to it; they put them to the sword, and every livingcreature there they delivered over to the curse of destruction. He left no one alive. As he had treated Hebron, ashe had treated Libnah and its king, so he treated Debir and its king.
40 W ten sposób Jozue podbił cały kraj: wzgórza i Negeb, Szefelę, i stoki górskie i wszystkich ich królów. Nie pozostawił nikogo przy życiu i obłożył klątwą wszystko, co żyło, jak rozkazał Pan, Bóg Izraela.	40 Thus Joshua subjugated the whole country: the highlands, the Negeb, the lowlands and wateredfoothil s, and al their kings. He left not one survivor and put every living thing under the curse of destruction, asYahweh, God of Israel, had commanded.
41 Jozue pobił ich pod Kadesz-Barnea aż do Gazy, cały kraj Goszen aż do Gibeonu.	41 Joshua conquered them from Kadesh-Barnea to Gaza, and the whole region of Goshen as far asGibeon.
42 Wszystkich tych królów i ziemie ich zdobył Jozue w jednej wyprawie, ponieważ Pan, Bóg Izraela, walczył wraz z Izraelem.	42 Al these kings and their territory Joshua captured in a single campaign, because Yahweh, God ofIsrael, fought for Israel.
