1 E Samuel disse a tutto Israel: ecco ch' io ho udita la vostra voce in tutte quelle cose che voi m' avete dette, e ho ordinato re a voi.	1 And Samuel said to all Israel: Behold I have hearkened to your voice in all that you said to me, and have made a king over you.
2 Ed ecco che il re va dinanzi a voi; e io sono invecchiato e fatto canuto, ma i miei figliuoli sono con esso voi; e conversato son nel vostro cospetto dalla mia adolescenza insino al dì d'oggi; ecco ch' io sono presente.	2 And now the king goeth before you: but I am old and greyheaded: and my sons are with you: having then conversed with you from my youth unto this day, behold here I am.
3 Dite di me, dinanzi a Dio e dinanzi al suo Cristo, se io tolsi ancora a persona bue, ovvero asino, se io ho calunniato veruno, ovvero oppremuto; se io ho tolto, di mano d' alcuno, dono; e contennerollo oggi, e renderollo a voi.	3 Speak of me before the Lord, and before his anointed, whether I have taken any man's ox, or ass: If I have wronged any man, if I have oppressed any man, if I have taken a bribe at any man's hand: and I will despise it this day, and will restore it to you.
4 E dissero non ci hai fatto calunnia, e non ci hai oppremuti, e non hai tolto alcuna cosa di mano di persona.	4 And they said: Thou hast not wronged us, nor oppressed us, nor taken ought at any man's hand.
5 E disse loro: il Signore è testimonio incontro a voi, e testimonio è il suo cristo oggi, che non avete trovato cosa alcuna nella mia mano. E rispuose. il popolo: Dio è testimonio.	5 And he said to them: The Lord is witness against you, and his anointed is witness this day, that you have not found any thing in my hand. And they said: He is witness.
6 E Samuel disse al popolo il Signore [che] fece Moisè e Aaron, e trasse gli padri nostri della terra d'Egitto.	6 And Samuel said to the people: It is the Lord, who made Moses and Aaron, and brought our fathers out of the land of Egypt.
7 Ora istate, e contenderò con esso voi in giudicio, nel cospetto di Dio, di tutte le misericordie di Dio, le quali fece con esso voi e cogli vostri padri;	7 Now therefore stand up, that I may plead in judgment against you before the Lord, concerning all the kindness of the Lord, which he hath shewn to you, and to your fathers:
8 come entrò Jacob in Egitto, e chiamarono i vostri padri a Dio; e mandò il Signore Moisè e Aaron, e trasse gli vostri padri d' Egitto, e puosegli in questo luogo.	8 How Jacob went into Egypt, and your fathers cried to the Lord: and the Lord sent Moses and Aaron, and brought your fathers out of Egypt: and made them dwell in this place.
9 Li quali dimenticarono il loro Signore Iddio; ed egli gli diede nelle mani di Sisara, maestro della cavalleria di Asor, e nelle mani de' Filistei, e nelle mani del re di Moab, e combatterono contro di loro.	9 And they forgot the Lord their God, and he delivered them into the hands of Sisara, captain of the army of Hasor, and into the hands of the Philistines, and into the hand of the king of Moab, and they fought against them.
10 Poi chiamarono al Signore, e dissono: noi abbiamo lasciato il Signore, e abbiamo servito a Baalim e Astarot: ora liberaci delle mani de' nostri nemici, e serviremo a te.	10 But afterwards they cried to the Lord, and said: We have sinned, because we have forsaken the Lord, and have served Baalim and Astaroth: but now deliver us from the hand of our enemies, and we will serve thee.
11 E il Signore mandò Jeroboal e Badan (e Barac) e Iefte e Samuel; e liberovvi delle mani dei vostri nemici dintorno; e siete abitati securamente.	11 And the Lord sent Jerobaal, and Badan, and Jephte, and Samuel, and delivered you from the hand of your enemies round about, and you dwelt securely.
12 E veggendo che Naas, re de' figliuoli di Ammon, fosse venuto contro di voi, dicestemi: NON SIA COSÌ, MA RE REGNERÀ SOPRA DI NOI, Conciò sia cosa che Iddio regnasse in voi.	12 But seeing that Naas king of the children of Ammon was come against you, you said to me: Nay, but a king shall reign over us: whereas the Lord your God was your king.
13 Ora il re, che voi eleggeste e domandaste, sì è presente; ecco che il Signore Iddio v' ha dato il re.	13 Now therefore your king is here, whom you have chosen and desired: Behold the Lord hath given you a king.
14 Se voi temerete Iddio, e servirete lui, e intenderete la sua voce, e non isprezzerete la sua bocca; sarete voi, e il re che sarà in voi, seguitanti il vostro Signore Iddio.	14 If you will fear the Lord, and serve him, and hearken to his voice, and not provoke the mouth of the Lord: then shall both you, and the king who reigneth over you, be followers of the Lord your God.
15 Ma se voi non udirete la voce del Signore, anzi esaspererete le sue parole, sarà la sua mano sopra dì voi, e sopra i vostri padri.	15 But if you will not hearken to the voice of the Lord, but will rebel against his words, the hand of the Lord shall be upon you, and upon your fathers.
16 Ma istate ora, e vedete questa grande cosa, la quale farà il Signore nel vostro cospetto.	16 Now then stand, and see this great thing which the Lord will do in your sight.
17 Non è egli oggi tempo di tagliare il grano? Invocherò il Signore, e darà voci e piove; e saprete e vederete, che voi avrete fatto grande male a voi nel cospetto di Dio, domandando re a voi.	17 Is it not wheat harvest to day? I will call upon the Lord, and he shall send thunder and rain: and you shall know and see that you yourselves have done a great evil in the sight of the Lord, in desiring a king over you.
18 E Samuel invocò il Signore; ed egli diede in quel dì voci e piove.	18 And Samuel cried unto the Lord, and the Lord sent thunder and rain that day.
19 E temette il popolo molto Iddio e Samuel; e disse tutto il popolo a Samuel: fa orazione per li tuoi servi al Signore Iddio tuo, acciò che noi non moriamo; però che noi abbiamo aggiunto a' nostri peccati questo grande male, cioè di domandare re.	19 And all the people greatly feared the Lord and Samuel. And all the people said to Samuel: Pray for thy servants to the Lord thy God, that we may not die, for we have added to all our sins this evil, to ask for a king.
20 E Samuel disse al popolo: non abbiate paura, voi avete fatto tutto questo male; ma non vi partite però da Dio (cioè da seguitarlo) e servite a lui con tutto il vostro cuore.	20 And Samuel said to the people: Fear not, you have done all this evil: but yet depart not from following the Lord, but serve the Lord with all your heart.
21 E non vogliate declinare dopo le cose vane, che non vi faranno pro', e non vi libereranno, perchè sono vane.	21 And turn not aside after vain things which shall never profit you, nor deliver you, because they are vain.
22 E non lascerà il Signore il suo popolo per lo suo grande nome; perciò che egli giurò di farvi suo popolo.	22 And the Lord will not forsake his people for his great name's sake: because the Lord hath sworn to make you his people.
23 E non sia in me questo peccato, ch' io cessi d' orare per voi; e insegnerovvi la via buona e diritta.	23 And far from me be this sin against the Lord, that I should cease to pray for you, and I will teach you the good and right way.
24 Onde temete Iddio, e servitegli con tutto il vostro cuore; certo voi avete veduto le magnifiche cose, le quali egli hae fatte in voi.	24 Therefore fear the Lord, and serve him in truth and with your whole heart, for you have seen the great works which he hath done among you.
25 Ma se voi perseverarete nella (vostra) malizia, e voi e il vostro re insiememente perirete.	25 But if you will still do wickedly: both you and your king shall perish together.
