1 Iesù adunque andò in sul monte Oliveto.	1 But Jesus continued on to the Mount of Olives.
2 E la mattina per tempo venne nel tempio, e tutto il popolo venne a lui, ed egli sedendo ammaestravagli.	2 And early in the morning, he went again to the temple; and all the people came to him. And sitting down, he taught them.
3 E in questo gli Scribi e Farisei gli menorono una femina ch' era stata compresa in adulterio; e posenla in mezzo.	3 Now the scribes and Pharisees brought forward a woman caught in adultery, and they stood her in front of them.
4 E dissero a Iesù: maestro, questa femina è ora stata compresa in adulterio.	4 And they said to him: “Teacher, this woman was just now caught in adultery.
5 Moisè comandò nella legge, ch' ella sia lapidata. Tu adunque che ne dici?	5 And in the law, Moses commanded us to stone such a one. Therefore, what do you say?”
6 E questo dicevano tentando lui, e per poterlo accusare. E Iesù chinossi, e scrisse col dito in terra.	6 But they were saying this to test him, so that they might be able to accuse him. Then Jesus bent down and wrote with his finger on the earth.
7 E loro continuamente dimandavanlo; ed egli levossi su, e disse a quelli: qualunque di voi è senza peccato, pigli la prima pietra, e cominci a lapidarla.	7 And then, when they persevered in questioning him, he stood upright and said to them, “Let whoever is without sin among you be the first to cast a stone at her.”
8 E anche un' altra volta inchinossi, e scriveva in terra.	8 And bending down again, he wrote on the earth.
9 E loro (vedendo e) udendo questo, l' uno dopo l'altro partironsi, incominciando dalli più antiqui; e Iesù rimase solo con la femina che stava in mezzo.	9 But upon hearing this, they went away, one by one, beginning with the eldest. And Jesus alone remained, with the woman standing in front of him.
10 E Iesù levandosi su, dissegli: dove sono coloro che ti accusavano? niuno ti ha condannata?	10 Then Jesus, raising himself up, said to her: “Woman, where are those who accused you? Has no one condemned you?”
11 La quale disse: niuno, Signore. E Iesù disse a lei: nè io ti condannarò; va, e non volere più peccare.	11 And she said, “No one, Lord.” Then Jesus said: “Neither will I condemn you. Go, and now do not choose to sin anymore.”
12 Ancora parlò Iesù, dicendo: io sono luce del mondo; e chi mi sèguita, non va per le tenebre, ma averà lume della vita.	12 Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying: “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me does not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.”
13 Dissero a lui gli Farisei: tu di te medesimo rendi testimonianza, e la testimonianza non è vera.	13 And so the Pharisees said to him, “You offer testimony about yourself; your testimony is not true.”
14 Rispose Iesù, e disse a loro se io di me medesimo rendo testimonianza, la mia testimonianza è vera; imperò ch' io so donde io sono venuto, e dove io vo; ma voi non sapete, donde io sono venuto, nè dove io vada.	14 Jesus responded and said to them: “Even though I offer testimony about myself, my testimony is true, for I know where I came from and where I am going.
15 Voi giudicate secondo la carne, ma io non giudico persona..	15 You judge according to the flesh. I do not judge anyone.
16 Ma se io giudico, il mio giudicio è vero; imperò ch' io non sono solo, ma sono io, e il Padre mio, il quale mi mandò.	16 And when I do judge, my judgment is true. For I am not alone, but it is I and he who sent me: the Father.
17 E nella legge vostra è scritto, che nella testimonianza di due uomini è vera testimonianza.	17 And it is written in your law that the testimony of two men is true.
18 Io sono quello che do testimonianza di me medesimo; e il Padre, che mi mandò, rende testimonianza di me.	18 I am one who offers testimony about myself, and the Father who sent me offers testimony about me.”
19 Dissero a lui (gli Farisei); dove è il Padre tuo? Rispose Iesù, (e disse): voi non (sapete nè) conoscete me, nè il Padre mio; ma se voi conosceste me, forse che voi conoscereste il Padre mio.	19 Therefore, they said to him, “Where is your Father?” Jesus answered: “You know neither me, nor my Father. If you did know me, perhaps you would know my Father also.”
20 Queste cose disse Iesù in gazofilacio, ammaestrando nel tempio; e niuno lo prese, imperò che non era ancora venuta l'ora sua.	20 Jesus spoke these words at the treasury, while teaching in the temple. And no one apprehended him, because his hour had not yet come.
21 Disse adunque ancora Iesù: io vo, e voi mi addimandarete e nel peccato vostro vi morrete; e dove io vo, voi non potete venire.	21 Therefore, Jesus again spoke to them: “I am going, and you shall seek me. And you will die in your sin. Where I am going, you are not able to go.”
22 Dicevano gli Iudei (infra loro medesimi): or ucciderebbe egli mai sè medesimo, imperò che egli dice dove io vado, voi non potete venire?	22 And so the Jews said, “Is he going to kill himself, for he said: ‘Where I am going, you are not able to go?’ ”
23 E diceva a loro Iesù: voi siete di quelli di sotto, e io sono quello di sopra; voi siete di questo mondo, ma io non sono di questo mondo.	23 And he said to them: “You are from below. I am from above. You are of this world. I am not of this world.
24 E anche vi ho detto, che voi morirete nelli peccati vostri; e se non crederete ch' io sono, nei vostri peccati morirete.	24 Therefore, I said to you, that you will die in your sins. For if you will not believe that I am, you will die in your sin.”
25 E loro dicevano a lui: tu chi sei? E Iesù disse a loro io sono principio, il quale parlo a voi.	25 And so they said to him, “Who are you?” Jesus said to them: “The Beginning, who is also speaking to you.
26 E molte cose ho a voi da dire, e a giudicare; imperò che colui che mi mandò, è verace; e io quelle cose che udi' da lui, parlo nel mondo.	26 I have much to say about you and to judge. But he who sent me is true. And what I have heard from him, this I speak within the world.”
27 E (gli Iudei) non conobbero (nè intesero) quello che Iesù diceva, che il suo Padre era Dio.	27 And they did not realize that he was calling God his Father.
28 E disse a loro Iesù: quando voi esaltarete il Figliuolo dell' uomo, allora conoscerete ch' io sono; e da me medesimo non faccio nulla, ma sì come il Padre mio mi insegnò, così parlo.	28 And so Jesus said to them: “When you will have lifted up the Son of man, then you shall realize that I am, and that I do nothing of myself, but just as the Father has taught me, so do I speak.
29 E colui che mi mandò, è meco, e non mi lasciò solo; imperò che quelle cose che a lui sono di piacere, sempre io faccio.	29 And he who sent me is with me, and he has not abandoned me alone. For I always do what is pleasing to him.”
30 Parlando egli queste cose, molti credettero in lui.	30 As he was speaking these things, many believed in him.
31 Dicevali adunque Iesù, alli Iudei che gli credettero se voi permanerete nel mio parlare, voi sarete veramente miei discepoli.	31 Therefore, Jesus said to those Jews who believed in him: “If you will abide in my word, you will truly be my disciples.
32 E cognoscerete la verità, e la verità vi liberarà.	32 And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall set you free.”
33 Risposero quelli: noi siamo seme di Abraam, e già mai a nullo abbiamo servito; come tu dici: sarete liberi? (e conoscerete la verità, e la verità vi liberarà?).	33 They answered him: “We are the offspring of Abraham, and we have never been a slave to anyone. How can you say, ‘You shall be set free?’ ”
34 Alli quali rispose Iesù: in verità, in verità vi dico, che chi fa il peccato, egli è servo del peccato.	34 Jesus answered them: “Amen, amen, I say to you, that everyone who commits sin is a slave of sin.
35 Onde il servo non permane nella casa in eterno; il figliuolo permane in eterno.	35 Now the slave does not abide in the house for eternity. Yet the Son does abide in eternity.
36 Se adunque vi liberarà il Figliuolo, sarete liberi veramente.	36 Therefore, if the Son has set you free, then you will truly be free.
37 Bene so che siete figliuoli di Abraam; ma voi cercate di uccidermi, conciosia che il mio parlare non entra in voi.	37 I know that you are sons of Abraham. But you are seeking to kill me, because my word has not taken hold in you.
38 Io quello, che ho veduto appresso il Padre [mio], parlo; e voi quelle cose, che avete veduto appresso il Padre vostro, facete.	38 I speak what I have seen with my Father. And you do what you have seen with your father.”
39 Risposero quelli, e dissero: egli è il padre nostro Abraam. Disse a loro Iesù: se voi siete figliuoli di Abraam, fate le opere di Abraam.	39 They responded and said to him, “Abraham is our father.” Jesus said to them: “If you are the sons of Abraham, then do the works of Abraham.
40 Ma voi al presente cercate di uccider me, uomo che vi ho parlato la verità, la quale ho udita da Dio; questo non fece Abraam.	40 But now you are seeking to kill me, a man who has spoken the truth to you, which I have heard from God. This is not what Abraham did.
41 Voi facete l'opera del vostro padre. Di che quelli gli dissero: noi non siamo nati di fornicazione; abbiamo uno padre, Iddio.	41 You do the works of your father.” Therefore, they said to him: “We were not born out of fornication. We have one father: God.”
42 Disse a loro adunque Iesù: se Iddio fusse il padre vostro, voi mi amaresti; imperò ch' io sono mandato da Dio, e sono venuto; e certo non sono venuto da me medesimo, ma egli mi ha mandato.	42 Then Jesus said to them: “If God were your father, certainly you would love me. For I proceeded and came from God. For I did not come from myself, but he sent me.
43 Il perchè non conoscete la mia loquela? Imperò che voi non possete udire il parlare mio.	43 Why do you not recognize my speech? It is because you are not able to hear my word.
44 Voi sete dal padre diavolo, e volete fare li desiderii del vostro padre; quello era omicida insino dal principio, ed egli non stette nella verità, imperò che in lui non è verità; quando egli parla la bugia, parla delle cose proprie, imperò ch' egli è bugiardo, e il suo padre.	44 You are of your father, the devil. And you will carry out the desires of your father. He was a murderer from the beginning. And he did not stand in the truth, because the truth is not in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks it from his own self. For he is a liar, and the father of lies.
45 Ma io però che dico la verità, voi non mi credete.	45 But if I speak the truth, you do not believe me.
46 Qual è di voi, che mi riprenderà del peccato? se io vi dico la verità, perchè non mi credete voi?	46 Which of you can convict me of sin? If I speak the truth to you, why do you not believe me?
47 Chi è da Dio, ode la parola di Dio. Ma voi non udite, imperò che voi non siete da Dio.	47 Whoever is of God, hears the words of God. For this reason, you do not hear them: because you are not of God.”
48 Risposero gli Iudei, e dissero a lui: non lo dicemo bene noi, che tu sei Samaritano, e hai il demonio adosso?	48 Therefore, the Jews responded and said to him, “Are we not correct in saying that you are a Samaritan, and that you have a demon?”
49 Rispose Iesù (e disse a loro): io non ho il demonio adosso; ma onoro il Padre mio; ma voi non avete onorato me.	49 Jesus responded: “I do not have a demon. But I honor my Father, and you have dishonored me.
50 Io non addimando la gloria mia; imperò ch' è chi la cerca, e chi la giudica.	50 But I am not seeking my own glory. There is One who seeks and judges.
51 In verità, in verità vi dico, che chiunque osservarà la mia parola, non morirà in eterno.	51 Amen, amen, I say to you, if anyone will have kept my word, he will not see death for eternity.”
52 Dissero allora gli Iudei: ora conosciamo bene che tu hai il demonio adosso. Abraam (è morto) e gli profeti sono morti; e tu dici: qualunque osservarà la mia parola, non morirà in eterno.	52 Therefore, the Jews said: “Now we know that you have a demon. Abraham is dead, and the Prophets; and yet you say, ‘If anyone will have kept my word, he shall not taste death for eternity.’
53 Come? se' tu maggiore del nostro padre Abraam ch' è morto, e de' profeti che sono morti? Di': che ti fai tu medesimo?	53 Are you greater than our father Abraham, who is dead? And the prophets are dead. So who do you make yourself to be?”
54 Rispose Iesù (e disse): se io glorifico me medesimo, la gloria mia è nulla; ma il padre mio glorifica me, del quale voi dite ch' è vostro Iddio.	54 Jesus responded: “If I glorify myself, my glory is nothing. It is my Father who glorifies me. And you say about him that he is your God.
55 E non l'avete conosciuto; ma io l' ho bene conosciuto; e se io dico ch' io non l'abbia conosciuto, sarei bugiardo come voi. Ma io lo conosco e osservo la parola sua.	55 And yet you have not known him. But I know him. And if I were to say that I do not know him, then I would be like you, a liar. But I know him, and I keep his word.
56 Abraam, vostro padre, desiderò di vedere il giorno mio; e videlo, e rallegrossi.	56 Abraham, your father, rejoiced that he might see my day; he saw it and was glad.”
57 Dissero a lui gli Iudei: or tu non hai ancora cinquant' anni, e dici che tu vedesti Abraam?	57 And so the Jews said to him, “You have not yet reached fifty years, and you have seen Abraham?”
58 E Iesù disse: in verità, in verità io vi dico che inanzi che Abraam fosse, io sono.	58 Jesus said to them, “Amen, amen, I say to you, before Abraham was made, I am.”
59 Allora (gli Iudei) presero le pietre per percoterlo; ma Iesù si ascose, e uscì del tempio.	59 Therefore, they took up stones to cast at him. But Jesus hid himself, and he departed from the temple.
