Deuteronomio 19

1 Quando Iddio tuo Signore avrà disperse (e morte) tutte le genti (e nazioni), la cui terra dèi tu avere nelle tue mani, e si la possederai e abiterai nelle cittadi e case sue,	1 “When the Lord your God will have destroyed the nations, whose land he will deliver to you, and when you possess it and live in its cities and buildings,
2 fae che tu (ponghi per sè e) ispartisci tre cittadi nel mezzo della terra, la quale Iddio tuo Signore ti darà in possessione.	2 you shall separate for yourselves three cities in the midst of the land, which the Lord will give to you as a possession,
3 E spazzerai (e apparecchierai) la via dili gentemente; e in tre parti ugualmente tutta la pro vincia della tua terra dividerai, acciò che quegli che è isbandito per omicidio (e cacciato) abbia appresso (esso ricorso e rifugio) dove possa iscampare (e abitare).	3 paving the road carefully. And you shall divide the entire province of your land equally into three parts, so that he who is forced to flee because of manslaughter may have a place nearby to which he may be able to escape.
4 Questa sarà la legge di colui che uccide e fugge, la cui vita si dee servare (e non dee morire): colui il quale ucciderà il suo fratello disavvedutamente (e per ignoranza) e pruovasi che ieri, e l'altro dì passato dinanzi non ha avuto (nè ira nè) odio contro a quegli il quale è morto,	4 This shall be the law of the killer who flees, whose life is to be saved. Whoever strikes down his neighbor unwillingly, and who has been proven to have had no hatred against him yesterday and the day before,
5 ma è andato semplicemente con lui nella selva a tagliare legna, e tagliando le legna, la scure gli escì di mano, il ferro uscio del manico, in questo modo percosse e uccise lo amico suo; questo ad una delle tre cittadi dette (e ordinate) di sopra si fuggirà, e viverà,	5 such that he had gone with him into the forest simply to cut wood, and in cutting down the tree, the axe slipped from his hand, or the iron slipped from the handle, and it struck his friend and killed him: he shall flee to one of the cities stated above, and he shall live.
6 ne forse il prossimo (fratello) di colui il quale è istato insanguinato (il cui sangue è ito per terra e sì è morto) per grande dolore molestato sì ' l per seguiti e pigli, essendo la via troppo lunga, e sì l'uccida; il quale non è degno di morte, imperciò che non si truova ch' egli avesse odio alcuno contra lui il quale è istato [ucciso].	6 Otherwise, perhaps the near relative of him whose blood was shed, impelled by his grief, might pursue and apprehend him, unless the way is too long, and he might strike down the life of him who is not guilty unto death, since he had demonstrated that he had no prior hatred against him who was slain.
7 E imperciò io ti comando che tu divida tre cittadi, le quali siano (di pari e) d'igual ispazio di lungi.	7 For this reason, I instruct you to separate three cities at equal distance from one another.
8 E quando Iddio tuo Signore avrà dilatato (e rallargati) i tuoi termini (e i tuoi confini), siccome egli giurò (e promise) alli tuoi padri (cioè Abraam, Isaac e Iacob), e avratti data tutta la terra che promise loro;	8 And when the Lord your God will have enlarged your borders, just as he swore to your fathers, and when he will have given to you all the land that he has promised to them,
9 se tu guarderai i suoi comandamenti, e farai tutte quelle cose le quali io ti comando oggi, cioè che tu ami Iddio tuo Signore, e vadi per le sue vie d'ogni tempo; tu sì ti aggiugnerai tre altre cittadi, e sì le (farai e) porrai nel numero di quelle di sopra ch' io ho detto, e raddoppiera?le,	9 (but this is only so if you will keep his commandments and do the things which I instruct to you this day, so that you love the Lord your God, and walk in his ways at all times) you shall add for yourselves three other cities, and so you shall double the number of the three cities stated above.
10 acciò che non si sparga il sangue innocente (e sanza colpa) nel mezzo della terra, la quale Iddio tuo Signore ti darà a possedere, acciò che non sie colpevole nel sangue (innocente e giusto).	10 So may innocent blood not be shed in the midst of the land which the Lord your God will give you to possess, lest you be guilty of blood.
11 Ma se niuno sarà, ch' abbia in odio il prossimo suo, e ponendogli l'agguato, levisi suso (e vada) e sì l'uccida, e poi fuggirà ad una di queste cittadi nominate di sopra,	11 But if anyone, having hatred for his neighbor, will have lain in ambush for his life, and, rising up, will have struck him, and he will have died, and if he will have fled to one of the cities stated above,
12 manderanno gli antichi di quella cittade d'onde è, e sì lo piglieranno del luogo dello refugio, e sì lo metteranno in mano del prossimo di colui il cui sangue è suto sparto (e morto), e sì morrà.	12 the elders of his city shall send, and they shall take him from the place of refuge, and they shall deliver him into the hand of the relative of him whose blood was shed, and he shall die.
13 Nè non gli avrai alcuna misericordia, e sì leverai il sangue colpevole d'Israel, acciò che tu abbia bene.	13 You shall not take pity on him, and so shall you take away the blood of the innocent from Israel, so that it may be well with you.
14 Guarda che non pigli e muti i termini del tuo prossimo, i quali puosero i tuoi antichi (i quali furono in prima nella possessione) nel podere tuo, il quale Iddio tuo Signore ti darà nella terra la quale piglierai e possederai.	14 You shall not take up or move the landmark of your neighbor, which those before you have placed, in your possession that the Lord your God will give to you, in the land you will receive to possess.
15 Nè istare solamente a uno testimonio (sufficiente) contro a colui il quale avrà peccato, ed è colpevole del male il quale hae fatto; ma nella bocca (si è detto) di due o di tre testimonii starà (e sarà creduta) ogni parola.	15 One witness shall not stand against another, no matter what the sin or outrage may be. For every word shall stand by the mouth of two or three witnesses.
16 E se egli istarà (e sarà) testimonio falso contro ad alcuno uomo, accusandolo che abbia offeso e tra passata cosa alcuna,	16 If a lying witness will have stood against a man, accusing him of a transgression,
17 sì istaranno amendue coloro i quali hanno il piato insieme (e l'accusato e quello che accusa) i dinanzi a Dio in presenza de' preti e de' giudici, i quali saranno in quello tempo.	17 both of those whose case it is shall stand before the Lord in the sight of the priests and the judges who shall be in those days.
18 E [se] cercando loro diligentemente, troveranno il falso testimonio, il quale avrà detto contro al suo fratello,	18 And when, after a very diligent examination, they will have found that the false witness had told a lie against his brother,
19 sarà fatto a lui, siccome pensò di fare al suo fratello; e caccerai il male di mezzo di te,	19 they shall render to him just as he intended to do to his brother. And so shall you take away the evil from your midst.
20 acciò che, udendolo, gli altri abbiano paura, e per niuno modo più siano arditi di fare così fatte cose.	20 Then the others, upon hearing this, will be afraid, and they will by no means dare to do such things.
21 Nè non gli averai misericordia, ma l'una anima anderà (cioè l'una vita dell' uno anderà) per l'altra, e l'uno occhio per l'altro, e il dente per lo dente, e la mano per la mano, e il piede per lo piede, (e tutto sommando, come avrà offeso, così il punirà, senza avere di lui per giustizia misericordia).	21 You shall not take pity on him. Instead, you shall require a life for a life, an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth, a hand for a hand, a foot for a foot.”
