1 E chiamato Iesù li duodeci suoi apostoli, diede a loro virtù e potestà sopra tutti li demonii e che potessero curare (e sanare tutte) le infermità.	1 He cal ed the Twelve together and gave them power and authority over all devils and to cure diseases,
2 E mandogli a predicare il regno di Dio, e a sanare li infermi.	2 and he sent them out to proclaim the kingdom of God and to heal.
3 E disse a loro: non portarete alcuna cosa con voi per via, non bastone, non tasca, nè borsa; nè abbiate due vestimenta.	3 He said to them, 'Take nothing for the journey: neither staff, nor haversack, nor bread, nor money; anddo not have a spare tunic.
4 E in qualunque casa voi entrarete, quivi state e non uscite.	4 Whatever house you enter, stay there; and when you leave let your departure be from there.
5 E chiunque non vi riceverà, uscite di quella città; e scrollate la polvere delli piedi vostri sopra di loro in loro testimonianza.	5 As for those who do not welcome you, when you leave their town shake the dust from your feet asevidence against them.'
6 E partironsi, e andavano per le castella, predicando l' evangelio, e sanando gl' infermi in ogni luogo.	6 So they set out and went from village to vil age proclaiming the good news and healing everywhere.
7 Udendo adunque Erode tatrarca tutte cose che facevansi da lui, molto dubitava; conciosia che da alcuni dicevasi,	7 Meanwhile Herod the tetrarch had heard about al that was going on; and he was puzzled, becausesome people were saying that John had risen from the dead,
8 come loanne è resuscitato da morte; etiam da alcuni dicevasi, come era apparso Elia; e da alcuni altri, ch' è resuscitato uno delli antiqui profeti.	8 others that Elijah had reappeared, still others that one of the ancient prophets had come back to life.
9 E disse Erode: io ho decollato Ioanne; ma cui è questo, del quale tali cose odo? Ed egli cercava di vederlo.	9 But Herod said, 'John? I beheaded him. So who is this I hear such reports about?' And he was anxiousto see him.
10 Onde ritornati gli apostoli raccontorono a Iesù tutte le cose che loro aveano fatte; e tolti quelli, si redusse da parte in uno luogo deserto, il quale è in Betsaida.	10 On their return the apostles gave him an account of al they had done. Then he took them with him andwithdrew towards a town called Bethsaida where they could be by themselves.
11 La qual cosa avendo conosciuto le turbe, seguitoronlo; ed egli li accettò, e parlavali del regno di Dio, e sanava quelli che avevano bisogno di esser sanati.	11 But the crowds got to know and they went after him. He made them welcome and talked to them aboutthe kingdom of God; and he cured those who were in need of healing.
12 Incominciavasi a sbassare il giorno. Di che andando gli dodici, sì gli dissero licenzia la turba, acciò vadino nella castella e nelle ville che son dintorno, e ritrovino de' cibi; però che noi siamo qui nel luogo deserto.	12 It was late afternoon when the Twelve came up to him and said, 'Send the people away, and they cango to the vil ages and farms round about to find lodging and food; for we are in a lonely place here.'
13 Ed egli a loro disse: dateli voi a manucare. E loro dissero: a noi non sono più di cinque pani e due pesci, salvo forse non andiamo e compriamo li cibi per tutta questa turba.	13 He replied, 'Give them something to eat yourselves.' But they said, 'We have no more than five loavesand two fish, unless we are to go ourselves and buy food for al these people.'
14 Li quali erano quasi cinque milia uomini. Ed egli disse alli suoi discepoli: fateli ponere a sedere per manucare, a cinquanta a cinquanta.	14 For there were about five thousand men. But he said to his disciples, 'Get them to sit down in parties ofabout fifty.'
15 E loro così fecero, e tutti puosensi a sedere.	15 They did so and made them al sit down.
16 Di che egli, tolti li cinque pani e i due pesci, riguardò in cielo, e benedissegli; e ruppeli, e distribuilli alli suoi discepoli, che dovessero ponere dinanzi alle turbe.	16 Then he took the five loaves and the two fish, raised his eyes to heaven, and said the blessing overthem; then he broke them and handed them to his disciples to distribute among the crowd.
17 E tutti manucorono, e furono saturati; e di quel che sopra avanzò da quelli, furono raccolte dodici coffe di fragmenti.	17 They al ate as much as they wanted, and when the scraps left over were col ected they fil ed twelvebaskets.
18 Onde fatto è, ch' essendo solo e orando, con lui erano gli discepoli; ed egli li addomandò, dicendo: le turbe che dicono ch' i' mi sia?	18 Now it happened that he was praying alone, and his disciples came to him and he put this question tothem, 'Who do the crowds say I am?'
19 E loro risposero, e dissero: dicono che sei Ioanne Battista; alcuni etiam dicono che sei Elia; e alcuni dicono ch' egli è resuscitato uno de' primi profeti.	19 And they answered, 'Some say John the Baptist; others Elijah; others again one of the ancientprophets come back to life.'
20 Disseli adunque: ma voi cui dicete ch' io sia? Rispondendo Pietro, disse: (io dico che tu sei) il Cristo di Dio.	20 'But you,' he said to them, 'who do you say I am?' It was Peter who spoke up. 'The Christ of God,' hesaid.
21 Ed egli reprendendoli, comando'li che a nullo dicessero questo,	21 But he gave them strict orders and charged them not to say this to anyone.
22 dicendo: imperò che bisogna che il Figliuolo dell' uomo sostenga molte passioni, ed esser riprovato dalli antiqui e dalli principi de' sacerdoti, ed essere ucciso dalli Scribi, e resuscitare il terzo giorno.	22 He said, 'The Son of man is destined to suffer grievously, to be rejected by the elders and chief priestsand scribes and to be put to death, and to be raised up on the third day.'
23 E a tutti diceva: s' egli è alcuno che voglia venire dopo di me, anneghi sè stesso, e ogni giorno toglia la croce sua, e sèguiti me.	23 Then, speaking to al , he said, 'If anyone wants to be a fol ower of mine, let him renounce himself andtake up his cross every day and fol ow me.
24 Imperò che chi vorrà fare salva l'anima. sua, perderà quella; certo chi perderà l' anima sua per amor mio, farà quella salva.	24 Anyone who wants to save his life wil lose it; but anyone who loses his life for my sake, wil save it.
25 Che adunque giova all' uomo, se egli guadagna l'universo mondo, e perde sè stesso, e fa a sè detrimento?	25 What benefit is it to anyone to win the whole world and forfeit or lose his very self?
26 Di che chi si vergognarà di me, ed (etiam si vergognerà) de' miei parlari, questo vergognarà il Figliuolo dell' uomo, quando egli verrà nella sua maestà, e del Padre, e degli angioli.	26 For if anyone is ashamed of me and of my words, of him the Son of man wil be ashamed when hecomes in his own glory and in the glory of the Father and the holy angels.
27 Ma io vi dico, che veramente quivi ci sono alcuni stanti, li quali non gustaranno la morte, per insino che vedano il regno di Dio.	27 'I tel you truly, there are some standing here who wil not taste death before they see the kingdom ofGod.'
28 Dopo queste parole circa otto giorni, egli tolse seco Pietro e Iacobo e Ioanne, e ascese nel monte acciò orasse.	28 Now about eight days after this had been said, he took with him Peter, John and James and went upthe mountain to pray.
29 E mentre ch' egli orava, fatta fu un' altra bellezza nel suo volto, e nel suo vestimento bianco e risplendente.	29 And it happened that, as he was praying, the aspect of his face was changed and his clothing becamesparkling white.
30 Ed ecco, con lui parlavano due uomini; ed erano Moisè ed Elia,	30 And suddenly there were two men talking to him; they were Moses and Elijah
31 veduti in maestà; e dicevanli la sua passione e morte, la quale doveva adempire in Ierusalem.	31 appearing in glory, and they were speaking of his passing which he was to accomplish in Jerusalem.
32 Ma Pietro, e coloro ch' erano con lui, erano aggravati dal sonno; e risvegliati viddero la sua maestà, e' due uomini che stavano con quello.	32 Peter and his companions were heavy with sleep, but they woke up and saw his glory and the two menstanding with him.
33 E fatto è, che partendosi quelli da lui, disse Pietro a Iesù maestro, egli è buono a esser quivi; e facciamo tre tabernacoli; a te uno, e a Moisè uno, e a Elia uno; non sapendo quel che dicesse.	33 As these were leaving him, Peter said to Jesus, 'Master, it is wonderful for us to be here; so let usmake three shelters, one for you, one for Moses and one for Elijah.' He did not know what he was saying.
34 Ma dicende egli queste cose, fu fatta una nuvola, e adombrolli; ed entrati quelli nella uube, temettero.	34 As he was saying this, a cloud came and covered them with shadow; and when they went into thecloud the disciples were afraid.
35 E fu fatta una voce della nube, dicendo: questo egli è il mio figliuolo diletto, esso udite.	35 And a voice came from the cloud saying, 'This is my Son, the Chosen One. Listen to him.'
36 E mentre che si fece la voce, fu ritrovato Iesù solo. E loro tacettero, e in quelli giorni non dissero alcuna cosa di quelle cose che loro aveano veduto.	36 And after the voice had spoken, Jesus was found alone. The disciples kept silence and, at that time,told no one what they had seen.
37 E nel seguente giorno, discendendo quelli del monte, venneli incontra una molta turba.	37 Now it happened that on the fol owing day when they were coming down from the mountain a largecrowd came to meet him.
38 Ed ecco che uno uomo della turba gridò (con grande voce) dicendo: maestro, priegoti, risguarda nel figliuolo mio, imperò ch' egli è a me unico (e solo figliuolo).	38 And suddenly a man in the crowd cried out. 'Master,' he said, 'I implore you to look at my son: he is myonly child.
39 Ed ecco che il spirito gli piglia, e incontanente grida, e gittalo a terra (e affliggelo) e distruggelo con la spuma, e appena si parte straziandolo tutto.	39 A spirit wil suddenly take hold of him, and all at once it gives a sudden cry and throws the boy intoconvulsions with foaming at the mouth; it is slow to leave him, but when it does, it leaves the boy worn out.
40 E io ho pregato li tuoi discepoli, che il scaccino; e loro non hanno possuto.	40 I begged your disciples to drive it out, and they could not.'
41 E rispondendo Iesù, disse: o infedele e perversa generazione, insino a quando sarò io appresso di voi, e sostennerovvi? Mena quivi il figliuolo tuo.	41 In reply Jesus said, 'Faithless and perverse generation! How much longer must I be among you andput up with you? Bring your son here.'
42 E venuto ch' egli fu, (Iesù) scacciò quel demonio, e distrusselo.	42 Even while the boy was coming, the devil threw him to the ground in convulsions. But Jesus rebukedthe unclean spirit and cured the boy and gave him back to his father,
43 E Iesù (minacciando) riprese i spirito immondo, e sanò il fanciullo, e restituittelo al padre suo.	43 and everyone was awestruck by the greatness of God. But while everyone was ful of admiration for alhe did, he said to his disciples,
44 Meravigliavansi tutti nella magnitudine di Dio; e stupendosi tutti in ogni cosa ch' egli faceva, disse alli discepoli suoi: ponetevi ne' vostri cuori questi parlari; imperò ch' egli è per essere che il Figliuolo dell' uomo sia dato nelle mani delli uomini.	44 'For your part, you must have these words constantly in mind: The Son of man is going to be deliveredinto the power of men.'
45 Ma loro non intendevano questa parola; e dinanzi a loro era nascosto, che loro non conoscessero quello; e temevano di addimandarlo di questo parlare.	45 But they did not understand what he said; it was hidden from them so that they should not see themeaning of it, and they were afraid to ask him about it.
46 Onde ne' loro pensieri entrò, chi sarebbe maggiore infra loro.	46 An argument started between them about which of them was the greatest.
47 E vedendo Iesù li loro pensieri, pigliò uno fanciullo, e poselo appresso di sè.	47 Jesus knew what thoughts were going through their minds, and he took a little child whom he set byhis side
48 E disse a quelli: qualunque riceverà questo piccolino nel nome mio, riceve me; e chiunque riceverà me, riceve quello che me ha mandato. Di che quello ch' è tra voi il minore, questo è maggiore.	48 and then he said to them, 'Anyone who welcomes this little child in my name welcomes me; andanyone who welcomes me, welcomes the one who sent me. The least among you all is the one who is thegreatest.'
49 Di che respondendo Ioanne, disse: maestro, abbiamo veduto uno scacciante li demonii nel nome tuo, e abbiamoli vietato; conciosia ch' egli non sèguita con noi.	49 John spoke up. 'Master,' he said, 'we saw someone driving out devils in your name, and because he isnot with us we tried to stop him.'
50 E dissegli Iesù non vogliate vietarli; imperò che cui non è contra di voi, egli è per voi.	50 But Jesus said to him, 'You must not stop him: anyone who is not against you is for you.'
51 E fatto è, ch' essendo finiti i giorni della sua assunzione, egli fermò la faccia sua per andare in Ierusalem.	51 Now it happened that as the time drew near for him to be taken up, he resolutely turned his facetowards Jerusalem
52 E dinanzi al suo conspetto mandò li nunzii; e quelli andanti entrorono nella città de' Samaritani, acciò ch' elli apparecchiasseno a lui.	52 and sent messengers ahead of him. These set out, and they went into a Samaritan vil age to makepreparations for him,
53 E quelli nol recevettero, imperò che la sua faccia era per andare in Ierusalem.	53 but the people would not receive him because he was making for Jerusalem.
54 E vedendo questo, gli discepoli suoi Iacobo. e Ioanne dissero: messere, vuoi tu che diciamo che venga il fuoco dal cielo, e consumili?	54 Seeing this, the disciples James and John said, 'Lord, do you want us to cal down fire from heaven toburn them up?'
55 Ed egli voltato ripresegli, dicendo: voi non sapete di cui spirito siate.	55 But he turned and rebuked them,
56 Non è venuto il Figliuolo dell' uomo a perdere l' anime, ma a salvarle. E loro andorono in un altro castello.	56 and they went on to another village.
57 E andanti loro nella via, disse uno a lui: seguirotti dovunque andarai.	57 As they travel ed along they met a man on the road who said to him, 'I wil fol ow you wherever you go.'
58 Al quale disse Iesù: le volpi hanno le cave, e gli uccelli del cielo li nidi; ma il Figliuolo dell' uomo non ha dove riposi il suo capo.	58 Jesus answered, 'Foxes have holes and the birds of the air have nests, but the Son of man hasnowhere to lay his head.'
59 Ed egli disse a uno altro: tu me segui. Ed egli disse: messere, concedimi prima ch' io vadi, e sepellisca il padre mio.	59 Another to whom he said, 'Fol ow me,' replied, 'Let me go and bury my father first.'
60 E dissegli Iesù: lascia che gli morti sepelliscano gli morti suoi; ma vattene, e annunzia il regno di Dio.	60 But he answered, 'Leave the dead to bury their dead; your duty is to go and spread the news of thekingdom of God.'
61 E disse un' altro: seguirotti, Signore, ma concedimi ch' io prima il significhi a quelli che sono a casa.	61 Another said, 'I wil fol ow you, sir, but first let me go and say good -- bye to my people at home.'
62 E dissegli Iesù: nullo ponendo la sua mano all' aratro, e riguardandosi adrieto, è atto del regno di Dio.	62 Jesus said to him, 'Once the hand is laid on the plough, no one who looks back is fit for the kingdom ofGod.'
