BIBBIA VOLGARE	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Nel terzo anno del regno di Baltassar re mi apparve una visione. Io Daniele, dopo quello ch' io avea veduto nel principio,	1 In the third year of King Belshazzar a vision appeared to me, Daniel, after the one that had original yappeared to me.
2 vidi nella mia visione, essendo in lo castello chiamato Susis, lo quale è nella regione di Elam; io vidi in visione, e parvemi esser sopra la porta di Ulai.	2 I gazed at the vision, and as I gazed I found myself in Susa, the citadel in the province of Elam; gazingat the vision, I found myself at the Ulai Gate.
3 E levai gli occhi miei, e vidi; ed ecco, uno montone stava dinanzi la palude, e avea le corna grandi, e uno era più grande dell' altro, e fu crescente. Dopo questo	3 I raised my eyes to look, and I saw a ram standing in front of the gate. It had two horns; both were tal ,but one tal er than the other, and the one that rose the higher was the second.
4 vidi lo montone ventilare con le corna (contro all' oriente e) contro all' occidente e contra l'aquilone e contra il mezzogiorno; e tutte le bestie non potéro resistere a lui, nè esser liberate delle mani sue; e fece secondo la sua volontade, e fu magnificato.	4 I saw the ram butting westwards, northwards and southwards. No animal could stand up to it, nothingcould escape its power. It did as it pleased and became strong.
5 E io intendeva; ed ecco, uno becco delle capre venia dall' occidente sopra la faccia di tutta la terra, e non toccava la terra; e questo becco avea uno corno nobile fra gli occhi suoi.	5 This is what I observed: a he-goat from the west, encroaching over the entire surface of the worldthough never touching the ground, and between its eyes the goat had one majestic horn.
6 E venne insino al montone cornuto, lo quale avea veduto stando dinanzi alla porta, e corse contro a lui coll' impeto (grande) della sua fortezza.	6 It advanced on the two-horned ram, which I had seen standing in front of the gate, and charged at it inthe full force of its fury.
7 E approssimandosi appresso il montone, isfrenato andò sopra lui, e percosse lo montone, e minuzzò le due corna sue, e non potea lo montone resistere a lui; e quando l' ebbe posto a terra, conculcollo, e niuno potea liberare lo montone delle mani sue.	7 I saw it reach the ram; it was enraged with the ram and struck it, breaking both its horns, so that theram was not strong enough to hold its ground; it threw it to the ground and trampled it underfoot; no one wasthere to rescue the ram.
8 E lo becco delle capre si fece grande molto; ed essendo cresciuto, si ruppe lo corno grande, e nascerono sotto quello quattro corna per i quattro venti del cielo.	8 The he-goat then grew more powerful than ever; but at the height of its strength the great hornsnapped, and in its place sprouted four majestic horns, pointing to the four winds of heaven.
9 E di uno di questi corni uscì fuori uno corno piccolo; e fatto è grande contro al mezzodì e contro all' oriente e contro alla fortezza.	9 From one of these, the smal one, sprang a horn which grew to great size towards south and east andtowards the Land of Splendour.
10 E magnificossi sino alla fortezza del cielo; (e percosse) e abbassò dalla fortezza e dalle stelle, e conculcolle.	10 It grew right up to the armies of heaven and flung armies and stars to the ground, and trampled themunderfoot.
11 E magnificossi sino al principe della fortezza, e tolse da lui lo sacrificio continuo, e depose lo luogo di [sua] santificazione.	11 It even challenged the power of the Prince of the army; it abolished the perpetual sacrifice andoverthrew the foundation of his sanctuary,
12 E fugli data fortezza contra lo continuo sacrificio per i peccati; e sarà prostrata la verità e gettata a terra; e prospererà e farà (molti mali).	12 and the army too; over the sacrifice it installed iniquity and flung truth to the ground; the horn wasactive and successful.
13 E udi' uno de' santi parlare; e disse uno santo all' altro, e non so a cui parlante: insino a quanto tempo durerà questa visione, e lo continuo sacrificio, e lo peccato della desolazione, la qual è stata fatta, e lo santuario e la fortezza sarà conculcata?	13 I heard a holy one speaking, and another holy one say to the speaker, 'How long is this vision to be --of perpetual sacrifice, of horrifying iniquity, of sanctuary and army trampled underfoot?'
14 Ed egli li rispose: insino al vespro e insino alla mattina, duomilia trecento [dì]; ? sarà mondato il santuario.	14 The first replied, 'Until two thousand three hundred evenings and mornings have gone by: then thesanctuary wil have its rights restored.'
15 E fatto questo, vedendo io Daniele la visione, e cercassi la intelligenza d'essa, ecco, stette nel mio conspetto quasi una similitudine d' uomo.	15 As I, Daniel, gazed at the vision and tried to understand it, I saw someone standing in front of me wholooked like a man.
16 E udii la voce di uno uomo infra Ulai; ed esclamò e disse: o Gabriel, fa che questo uomo intenda questa visione.	16 I heard a human voice cry over the Ulai, 'Gabriel, tell him the meaning of the vision!'
17 E venne, e istette presso al luogo dove io stava; ed essendo venuto, ispaventato mi chinai nella faccia mia; e dissemi: o figliuolo d' uomo, intendi che la visione sarà compiuta nel tempo dello fine (della consumazione delle persecuzioni).	17 He approached the place where I was standing; as he approached, I was seized with terror and fellprostrate on the ground. 'Son of man,' he said to me, 'understand this: the vision shows the time of the End.'
18 E conciosia cosa che parlasse a me, lasso cadetti chinato in terra; e toccommi, e levommi, e ridussemi nel grado mio.	18 He was stil speaking, when I fainted, face downwards on the ground. He touched me, however, andraised me to my feet.
19 E dissemi: io ti dimostrerò quelle cose che debbono venire nell' ultimo della maledizione; però che il tempo ha lo fine suo.	19 'Come,' he said, 'I shall tel you what is going to happen when the Retribution is over, about the finaltimes.
20 Lo montone, lo quale tu vedesti avere le corna, è lo re de' Medi e de' Persi.	20 As for the ram which you saw, its two horns are the kings of Media and of Persia.
21 E lo becco delle capre (lo qual tu vedesti dopo questo) è lo re de' Greci; e lo corno grande, lo quale era fra gli occhi suoi, quello è lo re primo.	21 The hairy he-goat is the king of Greece, the large horn between its eyes is the first king.
22 E che, questo rotto (e disfatto), si levassero quattro per lui, sono quattro re della loro gente, li quali si leveranno, ma non nella fortezza del primo.	22 The horn which snapped and the four horns which sprouted in its place are four kingdoms rising fromhis nation but not having his strength.
23 E dopo lo regno loro, essendo cresciute le iniquitadi, leverassi uno [re] sanza vergogna, e astuto molto nelle cose ch' egli averà a fare.	23 'And at the end of their reign, when the measure of their sins is ful , a king wil arise, a proud-faced,ingenious-minded man.
24 E la sua fortezza sarà fortificata, ma non nelle sue forze; e vasterà ogni cosa sopra quello che si può credere, e prospererà, e farà (molti mali). E ucciderà li potenti, e lo popolo de' santi,	24 His power will grow greater and greater, though not through any power of his own; he wil plotincredible schemes, he wil succeed in whatever he undertakes, he wil destroy powerful men and the holy ones,God's people.
25 secondo la sua volontade, e sarà dirizzata la iniquità nelle mani sue; e magnificherà il cuore suo, e nella copia di molte cose ucciderà molta gente, e leverassi contro al principe de' principi, e sarà disfatto sanza mano.	25 Such wil be his resourcefulness of mind that all his treacherous activities wil succeed. He wil growarrogant of heart and destroy many people by taking them unawares. He wil chal enge the power of the Princeof princes but, without any human intervention, he will be broken.
26 E la visione della mattina e del vespro, la qual è detta, vera è: tu dunque segna la visione, però che sarà dopo molti dì.	26 The vision of the evenings and the mornings which has been revealed is true, but you must keep thevision secret, for there are stil many days to go.'
27 E io Daniele rimasi languido e infermo per molti dì; ed essendomi levato, faceva li fatti del re, e istupivami alla visione, e non era chi me la manifestasse.	27 At this I, Daniel, lost consciousness; I was il for several days. Then I got up to discharge my duties inthe king's service, keeping the vision a secret and still not understanding what it meant.
