1 Il savio ricercherae la sapienza di tutti li antichi, e istudierae nelli profeti.	1 A wise man will seek the wisdom of all the ancients, and he will be occupied in the prophets.
2 Conserverae li detti delli famosi uomini, ed entrerae insiememente nelle sagacitadi delle parole.	2 He will preserve the words of renowned men, and he will enter with them into the subtleties of parables.
3 Ricercherae li occulti delli proverbii, e converserae nelli secreti delle parabole.	3 He will search for the hidden meanings of proverbs, and he will become familiar with the mysteries of parables.
4 Amministrerae tra' grandi uomini, e apparirae nel conspetto de' rettori.	4 He will minister in the midst of great men, and he will appear in the sight of the foremost leader.
5 Passerae nella terra delle strane genti; tenterae li mali e li beni nelli uomini.	5 He will pass through the land of foreign nations. For he will test good and evil among men.
6 Il cuore suo darae a vegliare per tempo al Signore che il fece; nel conspetto dello Altissimo pregherae.	6 At first light, he will offer his heart with watchfulness to the Lord who made him, and he will pray in the sight of the Most High.
7 Aprirà la bocca sua nella orazione, e per li peccati suoi pregherae.	7 He will open his mouth in prayer, and he will make supplication for his offenses.
8 Se l'alto Dio vorrà, riempierà lui di spirito d' intelligenza.	8 For if the great Lord is willing, he will fill him with the Spirit of understanding.
9 Egli, sì come piova, gitterae dolci parlari della sua sapienza, e nella orazione si confesserae al Signore.	9 And he will send forth the eloquence of his wisdom like rain showers, and in his prayer, he will confess to the Lord.
10 Egli lo dirizzerae nel consiglio suo e nella disciplina; e nelli secreti suoi il consigliarae.	10 And he will direct his counsel and his discipline, and he will meditate on his mysteries.
11 Farae manifestare la disciplina della sua dottrina, e gloriarassi nella legge del testamento del Signore.	11 He will make the discipline of his doctrine clear, and he will glory in the law of the covenant of the Lord.
12 Molti loderanno la sapienza sua; infino nel secolo non si cancellerae (il suo senno).	12 Many persons will together praise his wisdom, and it will never be abolished, for all ages.
13 E nen si partirae la memoria di lui; il nome suo fia richiesto di generazione in generazione.	13 The memory of him will not fade away, and his name will be sought from generation to generation.
14 Le genti parleranno della sapienza sua, e la chiesa dirae la lode di colui.	14 The peoples will declare his wisdom, and the Church will announce his praise.
15 S'elli basterà, il nome suo lascieranne più di mille; e riposerassi, e gioveragli.	15 While he remains, he leaves behind a name greater than a thousand, and when he will rest, it will be to his benefit.
16 Ancora consiglieroe, acciò che io parli; però che sì come di furore sono pieno.	16 I will meditate further, so that I may explain. For I have been filled with a passion.
17 Nelle voci dico: udite me, divini frutti, e fruttificate sì come rosa piantata sopra li rivi dell' acqua.	17 In a voice, he says: Listen to me, divine fruits. You shall bear fruit, like roses planted beside streams of waters.
18 E fruttificate odore, sì come Libano.	18 You shall have a sweet fragrance, like the cedars of Lebanon.
19 Fiorite fiori, sì come giglio; date odore e fate frondi in grazia, e conlaudate in cantico, e benedite Iddio nell' opere sue.	19 Blossom with flowers, like the lily, and diffuse a fragrance, and sprout leaves in grace, and give praise with canticles, and bless the Lord in his works.
20 Date al nome suo magnificenza, e confessatevi a lui nella voce delle labbra vostre nelle citare; e direte così nella confessione vostra :	20 Give magnificence to his name, and confess to him with the voice of your lips and with the canticles of your mouth and with stringed instruments. And in so praising him, you will confess:
21 L'opere del Signore sono tutte buone.	21 All the works of the Lord are very good.
22 Nella parola sua stette l'acqua sì come uno muro, e nel sermone dalla sua bocca sì come li ricevimenti delle acque.	22 At his word, the waters stood still, as if piled together. And at the words of his mouth, the waters were contained, as if in basins of water.
23 Però che [nel] li suoi comandamenti egli è pacificatore, e non è scemamento nella salute sua.	23 For it is made pleasing by his precept, and there is no decrease in his salvation.
24 L'opera d' ogni uomo è dinanzi da lui; nulla cosa è nascosa dinanzi dagli occhi suoi.	24 The works of all flesh are in his sight, and there is nothing hidden from his eyes.
25 Di secolo in secolo guarda, e non è nel conspetto suo cosa ammirabile.	25 His gaze is from eternity to eternity, and nothing is a wonder in his sight.
26 Non è a lui a dire: che è questo, o che è quello? tutte cose in loro tempo si domanderanno.	26 Let it not be said: “What is this?” or, “What is that?” For all things will be sought in their time.
27 La sua benedizione sì come uno fiume si spanderà.	27 His blessing has overflowed like a river.
28 Come il diluvio inebriò la terra, così l'ira sua erediterae nelle genti che non cercarono lui.	28 In the same way that a flood inundates the dry land, so also will his wrath inherit the peoples that have not sought him.
29 Com' elli l'acqua convertì in siccità, e la terra è seccata, così [come] le vie della terra alle vie di loro (cioè de' fiumi) sono dirette; così saranno le offensioni nell' ira sua a' peccatori.	29 In the same way that he turned the waters into dry land, and made the earth dry, and just as his ways have been directed for their journey, so also will sinners stumble before his wrath.
30 Dal cominciamento li beni sono creati alli buoni; così alli rei e li beni e li mali.	30 From the beginning, good things were created for those who are good, and similarly, good and evil things are for those who are wicked.
31 Il principio della cosa necessaria della vita degli uomini si è: acqua, fuoco, ferro e sale e latte e pane di farina monda, e miele e grappolo d' uva e olio e vestimento.	31 The principal things necessary for the life of men are: water, fire, and iron, salt, milk, and flour for bread, and honey, and the grape cluster, and oil, and clothing.
32 Queste cose a' santi tutte sono ne' beni; e così si convertono in male alli malvagi e alli peccatori.	32 All these things will be used for good by those who are holy, but they will be turned to evil use by the impious and by sinners.
33 Sono spiriti (maligni), li quali sono creati a vendetta (de' rei); e nello suo furore confermarono li suoi tormenti.	33 There are spirits that have been created for vengeance, and they strengthen their torments by their fury.
34 Nel tempo della fine del secolo getteranno la forza; e ritornerà in sè medesimi il furore di colui che gli fece.	34 In the time of the consummation, they will pour forth their strength. And they will appease the fury of the One who made them.
35 Fuoco, gragnuola, fame e morte, tutte queste cose sono create a vendetta;	35 Fire, hail, famine, and death: all these were created for vengeance.
36 li denti delle bestie, li scorpioni e li serpenti e la spada che punisce in disterminamento delli iniqui.	36 The teeth of wild beasts, and scorpions, and serpents, and the spear: all these take vengeance upon the impious, unto utter destruction.
37 Pascerannosi nelli comandamenti suoi, e apparecchierannosi sopra terra nella necessitade, e nelli suoi tempi non travalicheranno punto.	37 At his command, they will feast. And they will be prepared upon the earth until they are needed. And in their time, they will not ignore his word.
38 Però sono io (sapienza) confermata dal principio; io mi consigliai e pensai e lasciai alle scritture.	38 For this reason, from the beginning, I was strengthened, and I have meditated, and I have considered, and I have put these things in writing.
39 Tutte l'opere di Dio sono buone, e ciascuna opera governa li suoi pesi.	39 All the works of the Lord are good, and he will provide for each work in its own hour.
40 Non è dire: questa cosa è peggiore di quella; ogni cosa si prova nel suo tempo.	40 Let it not be said: “This is worse than that.” For all things will be tested in their time.
41 E ora benedite e collaudate insieme il nome di Dio in ogni cuore e in ogni bocca.	41 And now, with the whole heart and mouth, give praise to him, and bless the name of the Lord.
