1 Andonne Roboam in Sichem; però che tutto Israel era raunato ivi per farlo re.	1 And Roboam went to Sichem: for thither all Israel were assembled, to make him king.
2 La quale cosa udita Ieroboam figliuolo di Nabat, il quale era in Egitto; però che prima era fuggito da Salomone; ritornò incontanente.	2 And when Jeroboam the son of Nabat, who was in Egypt, (for he was fled thither from Solomon,) heard it, forthwith he returned.
3 E chiamaronlo, e venne con tutto Israel; e favellarono a Roboam, e dissero:	3 And they sent for him, and he came with all Israel, and they spoke to Roboam, saying:
4 Il tuo padre ci opprimeo di gravissimo giogo; tu ci comanda di più leggiere cose, che il tuo padre, il quale puose a noi gravissima servitudine; onde sollevaci uno poco della gravezza, acciò che noi ti serviamo.	4 Thy father oppressed us with a most grievous yoke, do thou govern us with a lighter hand than thy father, who laid upon us a heavy servitude, and ease some thing of the burden, that we may serve thee.
5 Il quale disse: dopo tre di ritornate a me. E andatone il popolo,	5 And he said to them: Come to me again after three days. And when the people were gone,
6 tenne Roboam consiglio con gli antichi, i quali erano istati dinanzi al suo padre Salomone, tanto ch' egli era vivo, e disse: che consiglio mi date voi, ch' io risponda al popolo?	6 He took counsel with the ancients, who had stood before his father Solomon, while he yet lived, saying: What counsel give you to me, that I may answer the people?
7 I quali dissono a lui: se tu compiacerai a questo popolo, e umigliara'lo con dolci parole, servirannoti d'ogni tempo.	7 And they said to him: If thou please this people, and soothe them with kind words, they will be thy servants for ever.
8 Ed egli lasciò il consiglio degli antichi; e cominciò a trattare colli giovani, i quali erano [stati] governati con esso lui, [ed erano] in sua compagnia.	8 But he forsook the counsel of the ancients, end began to treat with the young men, that had been brought up with him, and were in his train.
9 Il quale disse loro: che vi pare che debba rispondere a questo popolo, il quale mi dice ch' io gli faccia il giogo più leggiero, il quale il tuo padre ci pose?	9 And he said to them: What seemeth good to you? or what shall I answer this people, who have said to me: Ease the yoke which thy father laid upon us?
10 E loro rispuosono come giovani, e sì come nutricati con esso lui nelle delizie, e dissono: al popolo il quale dice a te: il tuo padre aggravò il giogo sopra noi,............. tu risponderai così: il minore delle dita mie è più grosso che i lombi del mio padre.	10 But they answered as young men, and brought up with him in pleasures, and said: Thus shalt thou speak to the people, that said to thee: Thy father made our yoke heavy, do thou ease it: thus shalt thou answer them: My little finger is thicker than the loins of my father.
11 Il mio padre v' impose grave giogo, e io vi apponerò maggiore giogo; il mio padre vi battè con li flagelli, e io vi batterò colli scorpioni.	11 My father laid upon you a heavy yoke, and I will add more weight to it: my father beat you with scourges, but I will beat you with scorpions.
12 Or venne Ieroboam, e tutto Israel, a Roboam il terzo dì, sì come egli avea comandato loro.	12 So Jeroboam, and all the people came to Roboam the third day, as he commanded them.
13 E rispose loro duramente, lasciato il consiglio degli antichi.	13 And the king answered roughly, leaving the counsel of the ancients.
14 E disse secondo la volontà de' giovani: il mio padre vi puose grave giogo, il quale io faroe più grave; il mio padre vi batteo coi flagelli, ed io vi batterò coi scorpioni.	14 And he spoke according to the advice of the young men : My father laid upon you a heavy yoke, which I will make heavier: my father beat you with scourges, but I will beat you with scorpions.
15 E non consentì ai preghi del popolo; però ch' era volontà di Dio, che la sua parola fosse compiuta, la quale avea detta per mano di Aia di Silo a Ieroboam figliuolo di Nabat.	15 And he condescended not to the people's requests: for it was the will of God, that his word might be fulfilled which he had spoken by the hand of Ahias the Silonite to Jeroboam the son of Nabat.
16 E dicendo il re cose più dure, tutto il popolo disse così a lui: noi non abbiamo parte in David, nè eredità nel figliuolo di Isai. Tu, Israel, ritorna alle tue case; e tu, David, pasci la casa tua. E Israel ritornò ai suoi tabernacoli.	16 And all the people upon the king's speaking roughly, said thus unto him: We have no part in David, nor inheritance in the son of Isai. Return to thy dwellings, O Israel, and do thou, O David, feed thy own house. And Israel went away to their dwellings.
17 E sopra i figliuoli d' Israel, i quali eranc nella città di Giuda, regnò Roboam.	17 But Roboam reigned over the children of Israel that dwelt in the cities of Juda.
18 E mandò il re Roboam Aduram, il quale era sopra gli tributi; e i figliuoli d' Israel il lapidarono, e fu morto; e il re Roboam ascese in sul carro tostamente, e fuggio in Ierusalem.	18 And king Roboam sent Aduram, who was over the tributes, and the children of Israel stoned him, and he died: and king Roboam made haste to gee up into his chariot, and fled into Jerusalem.
19 E partissi Israel dalla casa di David insino al presente dì.	19 And Israel revolted from the house of David unto this day.
