1 Giosafat, divenuto molto ricco e famoso, s'imparentò con Acab,	1 Although Jehoshaphat enjoyed great wealth and honour, he al ied himself by marriage to Ahab.
2 e dopo alcuni anni discese a trovarlo in Samaria. Al suo arrivo Acab fece uccidere gran numero di montoni e buoi per lui e per la gente che l'accompagnava, e lo persuase a salire contro Ramot di Galaad.	2 After some years he paid a visit to Ahab in Samaria. Ahab slaughtered an immense number of sheepand oxen for him and his retinue, to induce him to attack Ramoth-Gilead.
3 Acab re d'I­sraele disse a Giosafat re di Giuda: « Vieni con me contro Ramot di Galaad ». Giosafat gli rispose: << Quello che sarà di te sarà di me, quello che sarà del tuo popolo sarà del mio: noi saremo con te alla guerra ».	3 Ahab king of Israel then said to Jehoshaphat king of Judah, 'Wil you come with me to Ramoth-Gilead?' He replied, 'I wil share in battle with you, my men with yours.'
4 Poi Giosafat disse al re d'I­sraele: « Consulta fin d'ora, te ne prego, la parola del Signore ».	4 Jehoshaphat, however, said to the king of Israel, 'First, please consult the word of Yahweh.'
5 Il re d'Israele radunò allora i profeti, in numero di quattrocento, e disse loro: « Dobbiamo andare a combattere contro Ramot di Galaad, o è meglio starcene tranquilli? » Essi risposero: « Va: chè il Signore la darà nelle mani del re ».	5 So the king of Israel cal ed the prophets together, four hundred of them. 'Should we go and attackRamoth-Gilead,' he asked, 'or should I hold back?' 'March,' they replied, 'for God wil deliver it into the king'spower.'
6 Ma Giosafat disse: « Non vi è qui nessun profeta del Signore, per interrogare anche lui? »	6 Jehoshaphat, however, said, 'Is there no other prophet of Yahweh here, for us to consult?'
7 Il re d'Israele rispose a Giosafat: « Vi è un uomo per mezzo del quale possiamo consultare la volontà del Signore; ma io non lo posso patire, perchè invece del bene, mi profetizza sempre del male: egli è Michea figlio di Iemla ». « Non parlar così, o re », disse Giosafat.	7 The king of Israel answered Jehoshaphat, 'There is one more man through whom we can consultYahweh, but I hate him because he never has a favourable prophecy for me, always unfavourable ones; he isMicaiah son of Imlah.' 'The king should not say such things,' said Jehoshaphat.
8 Il re d'Israele, chiamato allora un eunuco, gli disse: « Fa venir subito Michea figlio di Iemla ».	8 The king of Israel then summoned a court official and said, 'Bring Micaiah son of Imlah immediately.'
9 I re d'Israele e Giosafat re di Giuda sedevano ciascuno sul suo trono, vestiti con magnificenza reale; erano sulla piazza vicino alla porta di Samaria, e tutti i profeti profetavano dinanzi ad essi.	9 The king of Israel and Jehoshaphat king of Judah were sitting each on his throne, wearing their robes;in an open space just outside the gate of Samaria, with al the prophets prophesying before them,
10 Or Sedecia figlio di Canaana, fattisi dei corni di ferro, disse: « Così dice il Signore: Con questi getterai per aria la Siria, finché tu non l'abbia distrutta ».	10 Zedekiah son of Chenaanah, who had made himself some iron horns, said, 'Yahweh says, "Withhorns like these, you will gore the Aramaeans til you make an end of them." '
11 E tutti i profeti, pro­fetando allo stesso modo, dicevano: « Sali a Ramot di Galaad, chè vincerai e il Signore li darà nelle mani del re ».	11 And al the prophets prophesied in the same vein, saying, 'March on Ramoth-Gilead! Success issure, for Yahweh has already given it to the king!'
12 Il messo che era andato a chiamare Michea, gii disse: « Ecco, le parole di tutti i profeti sono concordi nell'annunziare buone cose al re: fa dunque che le tue parole non discordino dalle loro, e annunzia prosperi eventi ».	12 The messenger who had gone to summon Micaiah said to him, 'Look! What the prophets are sayingis uniformly favourable to the king. So I hope you wil say the same as they do and speak favourably.'
13 Michea gli rispose: « Viva il Si­gnore! Qualunque cosa avrà detto il mio Dio, quella io dirò ».	13 Micaiah said, 'As Yahweh lives, I shal speak exactly as Yahweh tells me!'
14 Come fu giunto dinanzi al re, il re gli disse: « Michea, dobbiamo andare contro Ramot di Galaad per combattere, o è meglio starcene tranquilli? » Michea gli rispose: « Andate, chè tutto vi andrà bene, e i nemici saran dati nelle vostre mani».	14 When he came to the king, the king said, 'Micaiah, should we march to attack Ramoth-Gilead, orshould I hold back?' He replied, 'Go and conquer, Yahweh wil deliver them into your power!'
15 Ma il re gli disse: « Ti scongiuro più e più volte di non dirmi se non ciò che è vero nel nome del Signore ».	15 The king went on, 'How often must I put you on oath to tel me nothing but the truth in the name ofYahweh?'
16 Allora Michea disse: « Ho veduto tutto Israele disperso pei monti, come pecore senza pastore; e il Signore diceva: Essi non han padroni: se ne torni ciascuno a casa sua in pace ».	16 Then he spoke out. I saw al Israel scattered on the mountains like sheep without a shepherd. AndYahweh said, 'These have no master, let them all go peaceful y home!'
17 Il re d'Israele disse allora a Giosafat: « Non te l'avevo detto che costui non mi avrebbe pro­fetizzato niente di bene, anzi del male? »	17 At this the king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, 'Did I not tell you that he never gives me favourableprophecies, but only unfavourable ones?'
18 Ma Michea disse: « Or dunque udite la parola del Signore: io ho veduto il Signore seduto sul suo trono, circondato, a destra e a sinistra, da tutto l'esercito del cielo.	18 Micaiah went on, 'Now listen to the word of Yahweh. I saw Yahweh seated on his throne with thewhole array of heaven standing on his right and on his left.
19 Il Signore diceva: Chi andrà ad ingannare Acab re d'Israele, affinchè egli salga contro Ramot di Galaad a perirci? Chi diceva una cosa e chi un'altra;	19 Yahweh said, "Who will entice Ahab king of Israel into marching to his death at Ramoth-Gilead?" Atwhich some answered one way, and some another.
20 ma uno spirito, fattosi avanti, si presentò al Signore e disse: Lo ingannerò io. E il Si­gnore a lui: Come farai a ingannarlo?	20 A spirit then came forward and stood before Yahweh and said, "I wil entice him." "How?" Yahweh asked.
21 Quello rispose: Io uscirò fuori, e sarò spirito di menzogna sulla bocca di tutti i suoi pro­feti. Allora il Signore ha detto: Sì, lo ingannerai e prevarrai: va pure a farlo.	21 He replied, "I shall go and be a deceptive spirit in the mouths of all his prophets." Yahweh said, "You wil succeed in enticing him. Go and do it."
22 Or dunque il Si­gnore ha posto uno spirito di menzogna sulla bocca di tutti i tuoi profeti; il Signore stesso ha pronunziato sciagure contro di te ».	22 And now, you see, Yahweh has put a deceptive spirit into the mouths of your prophets here, for infact Yahweh has pronounced disaster on you.'
23 Allora Sedecia figlio di Canaana, accostatosi, percosse la guancia di Michea dicendo: « Per quale strada lo Spirito del Si­gnore è uscito da me per venire a parlarti? »	23 Zedekiah son of Chenaanah then came up, struck Micaiah on the cheek and said, 'Which way didYahweh's spirit leave me, to speak to you?'
24 E Michea a lui: « Tu lo saprai il giorno in cui correrai da una stanza all'altra per nasconderti ».	24 'That is what you wil find out,' Micaiah retorted, 'the day you go from room to room, trying to hide.'
25 Ma il re d'Israele diede quest'ordine: « Prendete Michea e menatelo ad Amon governatore della città e a loas fi­glio di Amalec	25 The king of Israel said, 'Seize Micaiah and hand him over to Amon governor of the city, and Joashthe king's son,
26 e ai quali direte: queste cose dice il re: Mettete quest'uomo in prigione, dategli poco pane e poc'acqua, finch'io non ritorni in pace ».	26 and say, "These are the king's orders: Put this man in prison and feed him on nothing but bread andwater until I am safely home." '
27 Michea disse: « Se tu ritorni in pace, il Si­gnore non avrà parlato per mezzo di me ». Poi soggiunse: « Popoli tutti, ascoltate ».	27 Micaiah said, 'If you ever do get home safely, Yahweh has not spoken through me.'
28 Il re d'Israele e Giosafat re di Giuda salirono adunque contro Ramot di Galaad.	28 The king of Israel and Jehoshaphat king of Judah marched on Ramoth-Gilead.
29 Or il re d'Israele disse a Giosafat: « Io cambierò le mie vesti, e così entrerò nella battaglia; tu invece indossa le tue vesti ». Così, mutati gli abiti, il re d'Israele entrò nella battaglia.	29 The king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, 'I shall disguise myself to go into battle, but you put on yourrobes.' So the king of Israel disguised himself, and they went into battle.
30 Il re di Siria ai capi della sua cavalleria aveva dato quest'ordine: « Non com­battete con nessuno, grande o piccolo, ma contro il solo re d'I­sraele ».	30 Now, the king of Aram had given his chariot commanders the fol owing order, 'Do not attack anyoneof whatever rank, except the king of Israel.'
31 Quando i capi della cavalleria ebbero veduto Giosafat, dissero: « E' lui il re d'Israele », e lo accerchiarono colle armi. Ma egli gridò al Signore, che lo soccorse allontanandoli da lui.	31 So, when the chariot commanders saw Jehoshaphat, they thought, 'That is the king of Israel,' andsurrounded him to attack. But when Jehoshaphat shouted his war cry, Yahweh came to his help, God drew themaway from him,
32 Infatti i capi della cavalleria, veduto che non era il re d'Israele, lo lasciarono stare.	32 for the chariot commanders, realising that he was not the king of Israel, broke off their pursuit.
33 Ma ecco un uomo del popolo tirare a caso una freccia e ferire tra il collo e le spalle il re d'Israele, il quale disse al suo cocchiere: « Volta, e menami fuor della battaglia, perchè son ferito ».	33 Someone, however, drawing his bow without any special aim, shot the king of Israel between thejoints of his armour. 'Turn about!' he said to his charioteer. 'Get me out of the fighting; I am col apsing.'
34 La battaglia finì col giorno, e il re d'Israele, stato sul suo carro contro i Siri fino alla sera, morì sul sole.	34 But the battle grew fiercer as the day went on, and the king of Israel had to be held upright in hischariot facing the Aramaeans until the evening, and at sunset he died.
