1 But there was a man related to Elimelech, a powerful man, and very wealthy, named Boaz.	1 Noemi aveva, da parte di suo manto Elimelec, un parente, potente e ricchissimo, chiamato Booz.
2 And Ruth, the Moabite, said to her mother-in-law, “If you order, I will go into the field and gather the ears of grain which escape the reaping hand, wherever I will find favor with the father of a family, who will be compassionate to me.” She answered her, “Go, my daughter.”	2 E Rut, la Moabi­ta, disse alla suocera: « Se me lo permet­ti, andrei nei campò a raccogliere le spi­ghe sfuggite alle mani dei mietitori, da qualunque padrone che mi favorisca ed usi bontà verso di me ». Noemi rispose: « Va pure, figlia mia ».
3 And so she went and gathered the ears of grain after the completion of the reaping. But it happened that this field was owned by Boaz, who was of the kindred of Elimelech.	3 Rut andò adun­que a raccogliere le spighe dietro ai mie­ titori e proprio nel campo di Booz, il quale era della parentela di Elimelec.
4 And behold, he came out of Bethlehem and said to the reapers, “The Lord be with you.” They answered him, “May the Lord bless you.”	4 Booz, tornando allora da Betlemme, disse ai mietitori: « Il Signore sia con voi ». Ed essi gli risposero: « Il Signore ti benedica ».
5 And Boaz said to the young man who was in charge of the reapers, “Whose young woman is this?”	5 Disse poi Booz all'uomo che sopraintendeva ai mietitori: « Di chi è questa giovane! »
6 He answered him, “This is the Moabite woman, who came with Naomi, from the land of the Moabites,	6 E l'uomo rispose: « Questa è la Moabita che è venuta con Noemi dal paese di Moab:
7 and she asked to gather the remnants of the ears of grain, following the steps of the reapers, and from morning until now she has remained in the field, and, indeed, not for one moment has she returned home.”	7 ha chiesto di raccogliere le spighe lasciate dietro ai mietitori: da stamattina in qua è lì nel campo, e non è tornata a casa nep­pure un momento ».
8 And Boaz said to Ruth, “Listen to me, daughter. Do not go to gather in any other field, nor depart from this place, but join with my young women,	8 Allora Booz disse a Rut: « Senti, fi­gliola, non andare a spigolare in altri campi, lasciando questo, ma sta insieme colle mie serve,
9 and follow where they reap. For I given orders to my young men, so that no one is to harass you. And so, whenever you are thirsty, go to the vessels, and drink from the waters that the young men also drink.”	9 va loro dietro, dovun­que mieteranno; perchè io ho dato ordi­ne a tutti i miei servi di non molestarti; e se anche hai sete, va ai vasi e bevi l'ac­qua di cui bevono i miei servi».
10 She, falling on her face and paying homage on the ground, said to him: “How did this happen to me, that I should find favor before your eyes, and that you would condescend to accept me, a foreign woman?”	10 Rut chinò la faccia e si chinò fino a terra; e poi gli disse: « Quando ho meri­tato di trovar grazia davanti ai tuoi oc­chi e che tu ti degni di riguardar me donna straniera! »
11 He answered her, “Everything has been reported to me, what things you have done for your mother-in-law after the death of your husband, and how you left your parents, and the land in which you were born, and came to a people you did not know before.	11 Booz le rispose: « Mi è stato raccontato quanto hai fatto verso la tua suocera dopo la morte di tuo ma­rito, e come hai lasciati i tuoi genitori e il paese ove nascesti per venire in un popolo che prima non conoscevi,
12 May the Lord repay you for your work, and may you receive a full reward from the Lord, the God of Israel, to whom you have come, and under whose wings you have taken refuge.”	12 il Si­gnore ti ricompensi delle tue opere, e la tua mercede ti sia data completa dal Signore Dio d'Israele verso il quale sei venuta, a rifugiarti sotto le sue ali ».
13 She said, “I have found favor before your eyes, my lord, who has consoled me, and you have spoken to the heart of your handmaid, who is unlike one of your young women.”	13 E Rut disse: « Ho davvero trovato gra zia dinanzi ai tuoi occhi, o mio Signore, che mi hai consolata, ed hai parlato al cuore della tua serva che non è pari ad una delle tue ancelle ».
14 And Boaz said to her, “When mealtime begins, come here, and eat bread, and dip your morsel in the vinegar.” And so she sat beside the reapers, and she piled up parched grain for herself, and she ate and was satisfied, and carried off the leftovers.	14 E Booz le disse: « Quando sarà l'ora, vieni qua e mangia il pane e intingi il tuo boccone nell'a­ceto ». Rut si pose a sedere accanto ai mietitori, e, preso del grano arrostito, lo mangiò, e, sazia che ne fu, mise da parte gli avanzi.
15 And then she arose from there, so as to gather the ears of grain, according to the custom. But Boaz commanded his servants, saying, “If she is even willing to reap with you, do not prevent her,	15 Poi alzatasi si rimise a spigo­lare. E Booz diede ai suoi ser­vi quest'ordine: « Anche se desi­derasse mietere con voi, lascia­tela fare;
16 and purposely let fall some from your bundles, and allow them to remain, so that she may gather without blushing, and let no one rebuke her gathering.”	16 anzi gettate apposta delle spighe dei vostri manipoli e lasciatele per terra, affinchè essa spigoli senza vergogna, e non la sgridate mentre spigola ».
17 And so she gathered in the field until evening. And striking and threshing with a staff what she had gathered, she found about the measure of an ephah of barley, that is, three measures.	17 Rut spigolò nel campo fino a sera, poi, battuto con un ba­stone e scosso quanto aveva rac­colto, ebbe un efi circa d'orzo, cioè tre moggia.
18 Carrying this, she returned into the city and showed it to her mother-in-law. Moreover, she offered it to her and even gave her the leftovers of her food, with which she had been satisfied.	18 Se lo prese ad­ dosso e tornò in città a farlo ve­dere alla suocera, alla quale, trattolo fuori, diede il resto del cibo con cui s'era saziata.
19 And her mother-in-law said to her, “Where have you gathered today, and where have you found work? Blessed is he who took pity on you!” And she informed her with whom she had been working, and she said the man’s name, that he was called Boaz.	19 La suocera le disse: «Dove hai spigolato oggi, dove hai fat­to tal lavoro? Sia benedetto chi ha avuto compassione di te!. » Rut indicò presso di chi avesse lavorato e che quell'uomo si chiamava Booz.
20 Naomi answered her, “May he be blessed by the Lord, because the same kindness which he provided for the living, he also kept for the dead.” And again she said: “This man is our near relative.”	20 Noemi rispose: « Sia benedetto dal Signore, poi­ ché la medesima bontà che ha avuta pei vivi, l'ha conservata anche pei morti! » Poi disse: « Quest'uomo è nostro parente ».
21 And Ruth said, “He charged me with this also, that from now on I should join with his reapers until all the crop has been reaped.”	21 E Rut soggiunse: « Egli mi ha detto ancora questo, di unir­mi ai suoi mietitori sino alla fi­ne di tutta la mietitura ».
22 And her mother-in-law said to her, “It is better, my daughter, to go out reaping with his young women, lest in a stranger’s field someone may confront you.”	22 La suocera le rispose: « E' meglio, figlia mia, che tu vada a mie­ tere colle fanciulle di lui, affin­chè nessuno t'inquieti nel campo di un altro ».
23 And so, she joined with the young women of Boaz, and from then on reaped with them, until the barley and the wheat were stored in the barns.	23 Rut adunque si unì alle fanciulle di Booz, e spi­golò con esse fino a tanto che l'orzo e il frumento non furono riposti nei granai.
