2 Corinthians 8

1 And so we are making known to you, brothers, the grace of God that has been given in the churches of Macedonia.	1 Vogliamo poi manifestarvi, o fratelli, la grazia di Dio accordata alle chiese della Macedonia:
2 For within a great experience of tribulation, they have had an abundance of joy, and their profound poverty has only increased the richness of their simplicity.	2 nonostante la lunga prova della tribolazione, la loro gioia è grande e la profonda povertà in cui si trovano ha traboccato della ricchezza della loro generosità.
3 And I bear witness to them, that they were willing to accept what was in accord with their ability, and even what was beyond their ability.	3 Posso testimoniare che hanno dato secondo le loro forze e anche più delle loro forze, spontaneamente,
4 For they were begging us, with great exhortation, for the grace and the communication of the ministry that is with the saints.	4 chiedendoci con insistenza la grazia di prendere parte a questo servizio a favore dei santi,
5 And this is beyond what we had hoped, since they gave themselves, first of all to the Lord, and then also to us, through the will of God,	5 più di quanto non avremmo osato sperare, offrendosi prima al Signore e poi a noi, conforme alla volontà di Dio.
6 so much so that we petitioned Titus, that in the same manner as he had begun, he would also complete in you this same grace.	6 Onde abbiamo pregato Tito di portare a compimento fra voi quest'opera di benevolenza, lui che l'aveva incominciata.
7 But, just as in all things you abound in faith and in word and in knowledge and in all solicitude, and even more so in your charity toward us, so also may you abound in this grace.	7 Su, dunque: come vi segnalate in ogni cosa, nella fede e nella parola, nella dottrina e in ogni zelo e nella carità che vi abbiamo insegnato, così distinguetevi anche in quest'opera di benevolenza.
8 I am speaking, not commanding. But through the solicitude of others, I approve of the good character of your charity.	8 Non ve ne faccio un obbligo, ma vorrei provare alla stregua dello zelo degli altri la sincerità della vostra carità.
9 For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, he became poor for your sakes, so that through his poverty, you might become rich.	9 Conoscete la benevolenza del Signore nostro Gesù Cristo: da ricco che era, si è fatto povero per voi, perché voi diventaste ricchi dalla sua povertà.
10 And about this, I give my counsel. For this is useful to those of you who, only a year earlier, had just begun to act, or even to be willing to act.	10 E' un consiglio che vi do: si tratta di cosa vantaggiosa per voi, che fin dall'anno passato siete stati i primi non solo a intraprenderla, ma a desiderarla.
11 So, truly now, accomplish this in deed, so that, in the same manner as your willing mind is prompted, you may also act, out of that which you have.	11 Ora dunque realizzatela, perché come vi fu la prontezza del volere, così anche vi sia il compimento, secondo i vostri mezzi;
12 For when the will is prompted, it receives according to what that person has, not according to what that person does not have.	12 se infatti c'è la prontezza del volere, essa riesce gradita secondo quello che si possiede, non secondo quello che non si possiede.
13 And it is not that others should be relieved, while you are troubled, but that there should be an equality.	13 Non si tratta invero di disagiare voi per sollevare gli altri, ma perché vi sia eguaglianza;
14 In this present time, let your abundance supply their need, so that their abundance may also supply your need, in order that there may be an equality, just as it was written:	14 nel momento attuale la vostra abbondanza scenda sulla loro indigenza, affinché anche la loro abbondanza torni a vantaggio della vostra indigenza, onde vi sia eguaglianza, come sta scritto:
15 “He with more did not have too much; and he with less did not have too little.”	15 Chi aveva molto non ne soverchiò e chi aveva poco non sentì la mancanza.
16 But thanks be to God, who has granted to the heart of Titus, this same solicitude for you.	16 Siano rese grazie a Dio che infonde la medesima sollecitudine per voi nel cuore di Tito!
17 For certainly, he accepted the exhortation. But since he was more solicitous, he went to you of his own free will.	17 Egli ha accolto l'invito e, pieno di zelo, è partito spontaneamente per venire da voi.
18 And we have even sent with him a brother whose praise accompanies the Gospel throughout all the churches.	18 Abbiamo mandato con lui il fratello che ha lode in tutte le chiese a motivo del vangelo;
19 And not only that, but he was also chosen by the churches to be a companion for our sojourn in this grace, which is ministered by us with our determined will, to the glory of the Lord.	19 egli è stato designato dalle chiese come nostro compagno in quest'opera di benevolenza che stiamo realizzando per la gloria del Signore, e per l'impulso del nostro cuore.
20 So let us avoid this, lest anyone disparage us over the abundance that is ministered by us.	20 Vogliamo evitare che qualcuno possa biasimarci per queste somme che vengono amministrate da noi.
21 For we provide for what is good, not only in the sight of God, but also in the sight of men.	21 Ci preoccupiamo infatti di comportarci bene non soltanto davanti al Signore, ma anche davanti agli uomini.
22 And we have also sent with them our brother, whom we have proven to be frequently solicitous in many matters. But now there is a greater solicitousness, which is greatly entrusted to you;	22 Con loro abbiamo inviato anche il nostro fratello di cui abbiamo più volte sperimentato lo zelo in molte circostanze, ed è ora più zelante che mai per la grande fiducia che ha in voi.
23 and whether it concerns Titus, who is a companion to me and a helper to you, or whether it concerns our brothers, the Apostles of the churches, it is to the glory of Christ.	23 Tito è dunque mio compagno e collaboratore presso di voi; i nostri fratelli sono delegati delle chiese, gloria di Cristo.
24 Therefore, in the sight of the churches, show them the proof of your charity and of our glorying about you.	24 Date dunque a loro la prova del vostro affetto e della legittimità del nostro vanto per voi davanti a tutte le chiese.
