Sirach 6

1 Do not be willing to become an enemy instead of a friend to your neighbor. For an evil man will inherit reproach and disgrace, as will every sinner who is envious and double-tongued.	1 De amigo não te tornes inimigo de teu próximo, pois o malvado terá por sorte a vergonha e a ignomínia, como todo pecador invejoso e de língua fingida.
2 You should not extol yourself, like a bull, in the thoughts of your soul, lest perhaps your strength may be cast down through foolishness,	2 Não te eleves como um touro nos pensamentos de teu coração, para não suceder que a tua loucura quebre a tua força,
3 which would consume your leaves, and destroy your fruit, and leave you behind like a dry tree in the desert.	3 devore as tuas folhas, apodreça os teus frutos e te deixe como uma árvore seca no deserto.
4 For a wicked soul will destroy the one who has it. For it gladly provides enemies to him, and it will lead him to the fate of the impious.	4 Pois uma alma perversa é a perda de quem a possui; torná-lo-á motivo de zombaria para seus inimigos, e conduzi-lo-á à sorte dos ímpios.
5 A sweet word multiplies friends and mitigates enemies. And thankful words abound in a good man.	5 Uma boa palavra multiplica os amigos e apazigua os inimigos; a linguagem elegante do homem virtuoso é uma opulência.
6 Allow many to be at peace with you, but allow one out of a thousand to be your counselor.	6 Dá-te bem com muitos, mas escolhe para conselheiro um entre mil.
7 If you would obtain a friend, test him before you accept him, and do not trust him readily.	7 Se adquirires um amigo, adquire-o na provação, não confies nele tão depressa.
8 For there is a friend according to his own time, but he will not remain in the day of tribulation.	8 Pois há amigos em certas horas que deixarão de o ser no dia da aflição.
9 And there is a friend who can be turned to animosity. And there is a friend who will reveal hatred and ridicule and insults.	9 Há amigo que se torna inimigo, e há amigo que desvendará ódios, querelas e disputas;
10 And there is a friend who is a companion at table, but he will not remain in a day of need.	10 há amigo que só o é para a mesa, e que deixará de o ser no dia da desgraça.
11 A friend, if he remains steadfast, will be to you as you are to yourself, and he will act with faithfulness among those of your household.	11 Se teu amigo for constante, ele te será como um igual, e agirá livremente com os de tua casa.
12 If he humbles himself before you and hides himself from your face, you shall have a noble and harmonious friendship.	12 Se se rebaixa em tua presença e se retrai diante de ti, terás aí, na união dos corações, uma excelente amizade.
13 Distance yourself from your enemies, and pay attention to your friends.	13 Separa-te daqueles que são teus inimigos, e fica de sobreaviso diante de teus amigos.
14 A faithful friend is a strong shelter, and whoever has found one has found a treasure.	14 Um amigo fiel é uma poderosa proteção: quem o achou, descobriu um tesouro.
15 Nothing is comparable to a faithful friend, and no weight of silver or gold is worth more than the goodness of his fidelity.	15 Nada é comparável a um amigo fiel, o ouro e a prata não merecem ser postos em paralelo com a sinceridade de sua fé.
16 A faithful friend is a medicine for life and immortality; and those who fear the Lord will find one.	16 Um amigo fiel é um remédio de vida e imortalidade; quem teme ao Senhor, achará esse amigo.
17 He who fears God will have a similar good friendship, because his friend will be like him.	17 Quem teme ao Senhor terá também uma excelente amizade, pois seu amigo lhe será semelhante.
18 Son, from your youth receive instruction, and then you will find wisdom, even to your grey hairs.	18 Meu filho, aceita a instrução desde teus jovens anos; ganharás uma sabedoria que durará até à velhice.
19 Approach wisdom like one who plows and sows, and then wait for her good fruits.	19 Vai ao encontro dela, como aquele que lavra e semeia, espera pacientemente seus excelentes frutos, 20. terás alguma pena em cultivá-la, mas, em breve, comerás os seus frutos.
20 For in doing her work, you will labor a little, but you will soon eat from her produce.
21 How exceedingly harsh is wisdom to unlearned men! And so, the witless will not remain with her.	21 Quanto a sabedoria é amarga para os ignorantes! O insensato não permanecerá junto a ela.
22 She will be to them like a great stone of trial, and they will cast her away from them without delay.	22 Ela lhes será como uma pesada pedra de provação, eles não tardarão a desfazer-se dela.
23 For the wisdom of doctrine is in accord with her name, and she is not manifest to many. But she continues with those by whom she is recognized, even in the sight of God.	23 Pois a sabedoria que instrui justifica o seu nome, não se manifesta a muitos; mas, naqueles que a conhecem, persevera, até (tê-los levado) à presença de Deus.
24 Listen, son, and accept an understanding counsel, for you should not discard my advice.	24 Escuta, meu filho, recebe um sábio conselho, não rejeites minha advertência.
25 Set your feet in her fetters and your neck in her chains.	25 Mete os teus pés nos seus grilhões, e teu pescoço em suas correntes.
26 Incline your shoulder, and carry her, for you will not be grieved by her bindings.	26 Abaixa teu ombro para carregá-la, não sejas impaciente em suportar seus liames.
27 Approach her with all your soul, and serve her ways with all your strength.	27 Vem a ela com todo o teu coração. Guarda seus caminhos com todas as tuas forças.
28 Examine her, and she will be revealed to you, and when you have obtained her, you should not abandon her.	28 Segue-lhe os passos e ela se dará a conhecer; quando a tiveres abraçado, não a deixes.
29 For, in the very end, you will find rest in her, and she will turn into your delight.	29 Pois acharás finalmente nela o teu repouso. E ela transformar-se-á para ti em um motivo de alegria.
30 Then her fetters will be a strong protection and a firm foundation for you, and her chains will be a robe of glory.	30 Seus grilhões ser-te-ão uma proteção, um firme apoio; suas correntes te serão um adorno glorioso; 31. pois nela há uma beleza que dá vida, e seus liames são ligaduras que curam.
31 For in her is the beauty of life, and her bindings are a healing bandage.
32 You will be clothed with her as with a robe of glory, and you will set her upon your head like a crown of rejoicing.	32 Como ele te revestirás como de uma vestimenta de glória, e a porás sobre ti como uma coroa de júbilo.
33 Son, if you heed me, you will learn. And if you adapt your mind, you will be wise.	33 Meu filho, se me ouvires com atenção, serás instruído; se submeteres o teu espírito, tornar-te-ás sábio.
34 If you incline your ear, you will receive doctrine. And if you love to listen, you will be wise.	34 Se me deres ouvido, receberás a doutrina. Se gostares de ouvir, adquirirás a sabedoria.
35 Stand among the multitude of prudent elders, and join yourself to their wisdom from the heart, so that you may be able to hear every discourse about God, and so that the proverbs of praise may not flee from you.	35 Permanece na companhia dos doutos anciãos, une-te de coração à sua sabedoria, a fim de que possas ouvir o que dizem de Deus, e não te escapem suas louváveis máximas.
36 And if you see a man of understanding, stand watch for him, and let your feet wear down the steps of his doors.	36 Se vires um homem sensato, madruga para ir ter com ele, desgaste o teu pé o limiar de sua porta.
37 Set your thoughts on the precepts of God, and be entirely constant in his commandments. And he himself will give a heart to you, and the desire of wisdom will be given to you.	37 Concentra teu pensamento nos preceitos de Deus, sê assíduo à meditação de seus mandamentos. Ele próprio te dará um coração, e ser-te-á concedida a sabedoria que desejas.
