1 Then Jacob called his sons, and he said to them: “Gather together, so that I may announce what will happen to you in the last days.	1 Jacob appela ses fils et leur dit: “Venez autour de moi pour que je vous annonce ce qui arrivera par la suite.
2 Gather together and listen, O sons of Jacob. Listen to Israel, your father.	2 Venez tous ici et écoutez-moi, fils de Jacob, écoutez votre père Israël.
3 Reuben, my firstborn, you are my strength and the beginning of my sorrow: first in gifts, greater in authority.	3 “Ruben, tu es mon premier-né, ma force et le premier fruit de ma virilité, aussi orgueilleux que vigoureux.
4 You are being poured out like water, may you not increase. For you climbed onto your father’s bed, and you defiled his resting place.	4 Tu auras beau déborder comme les eaux, ton pouvoir sera limité, car tu es monté sur la couche de ton père et tu as souillé mon lit en y montant.
5 The brothers Simeon and Levi: vessels of iniquity waging war.	5 “Siméon et Lévi sont frères dans la violence: c’est ensemble qu’ils ont frappé du poignard.
6 Let not my soul go by their counsel, nor my glory be within their meeting. For in their fury they killed a man, and in their self-will they undermined a wall.	6 Je n’approuve pas leurs décisions et je ne me joindrai pas à leur assemblée, car dans leur colère, ils ont massacré des hommes; dans leur violence, ils ont coupé les jarrets des taureaux.
7 Cursed be their fury, because it was obstinate, and their indignation, because it was harsh. I will divide them in Jacob, and I will scatter them in Israel.	7 Maudite soit leur colère, car elle n’est que violence, et leur fureur, car elle n’est que cruauté. Je les installerai ça et là en Jacob, je les disperserai en Israël.
8 Judah, your brothers will praise you. Your hand will be at the necks of your enemies; the sons of your father will reverence you.	8 “Juda, tes frères feront ton éloge. Ta main pèsera sur le cou de tes ennemis, les fils de ton père se prosterneront devant toi.
9 Judah is a lion’s young. You have gone up to the prey, my son. While resting, you have lain like a lion. And just like a lioness, who would rouse him?	9 “Juda, mon fils, tu es comme un jeune lion qui revient avec sa proie! Il s’est accroupi comme un lion, allongé comme une lionne: qui ira le provoquer?
10 The scepter from Judah and the leader from his thigh will not be taken away, until he who will be sent arrives, and he will be the expectation of Gentiles.	10 On n’enlèvera pas à Juda le sceptre royal, ni le bâton de commandement d’entre ses pieds jusqu’au jour où viendra celui à qui tous les peuples obéiront.
11 Tying his young colt to the vineyard, and his donkey, O my son, to the vine, he will wash his robe in wine, and his cloak in the blood of the grape.	11 “Il attache à la vigne son âne, au pied de la vigne le petit de son ânesse. Il lave dans le vin son vêtement, et dans le sang des raisins, son manteau.
12 His eyes are more beautiful than wine, and his teeth whiter than milk.	12 Le vin lui trouble la vue et le lait blanchit ses dents.
13 Zebulun will live at the seashore and by the outpost of ships, reaching as far as Sidon.	13 “Zabulon habitera sur le bord des mers, il sera matelot sur les bateaux et son territoire s’étendra jusqu’à Sidon.
14 Issachar will be a strong donkey, reclining between the borders.	14 “Issacar est un âne osseux qui repose au milieu de ses pâturages.
15 He saw that rest would be good, and that the land was excellent. And so he bent his shoulder to carry, and he became a servant under tribute.	15 Il a vu que le repos est bon, que le pays est agréable, aussi il tend son dos pour porter les fardeaux, il est prêt pour un travail d’esclave.
16 Dan will judge his people just like any other tribe in Israel.	16 “Dan jugera son peuple comme le font les tribus d’Israël.
17 Let Dan be a snake in the way, a viper in the path, biting the hooves of horses, so that his rider may fall backward.	17 Dan est un serpent sur la route, une vipère à cornes sur le sentier; il mord les talons du cheval et le cavalier tombe à la renverse.
18 I will wait for your salvation, O Lord.	18 “Ô Yahvé! J’espère en ton salut!
19 Gad, being girded, will fight before him. And he himself will be girded backward.	19 “Gad, à peine les pillards l’ont-ils pillé, que déjà il est sur leurs talons.
20 Asher: his bread will be fat, and he will provide delicacies to the kings.	20 “Le pain d’Asher est moelleux, il fournit des pâtisseries royales.
21 Naphtali is a stag sent forth, offering words of eloquent beauty.	21 “Nephtali est une biche en liberté, qui met bas de beaux petits.
22 Joseph is a growing son, a growing son and stately to behold; the daughters run back and forth on the wall.	22 “Joseph est un arbre fertile, c’est un arbre fertile auprès d’une source, dont les branches grimpent sur le mur.
23 But those who held darts, provoked him, and they contend with him, and they envied him.	23 “Les archers l’ont provoqué, ils ont tiré, ils l’ont attaqué.
24 His bow sits in strength, and the bands of his arms and hands have been let loose by the hands of the mighty one of Jacob. From there he went forth as a pastor, the stone of Israel.	24 Mais son arc à lui ne s’est pas brisé et ses bras sont restés agiles, car le Puissant de Jacob le soutient, le Rocher d’Israël lui vient en aide.
25 The God of your father will be your helper, and the Almighty will bless you with the blessings of heaven above, with the blessings of the abyss that lies beneath, with the blessings of the breasts and of the womb.	25 “Que le Dieu de ton père te protège, que le Dieu de la Steppe te bénisse. Que d’en haut te viennent les bénédictions du ciel, et d’en bas la fécondité de ton sol. Tes champs seront bénis, et tes bêtes fécondes.
26 The blessings of your father are strengthened by the blessings of his fathers, until the desire of the hills of eternity shall arrive. May they be at the head of Joseph, and at the summit of the Nazarite, among his brothers.	26 “Les bénédictions de ton père surpassent les bénédictions des montagnes antiques, elles sont meilleures que celles des cimes éternelles. Puissent-elles reposer sur la tête de Joseph, puisqu’il a été choisi entre tous ses frères!
27 Benjamin is a ravenous wolf, in the morning he will eat the prey, and in the evening he will divide the spoil.”	27 “Benjamin est un loup qui déchire. Le matin, il dévore sa proie, et le soir, il partage le butin.”
28 All these are the twelve tribes of Israel. These things their father spoke to them, and he blessed each one with their proper blessings.	28 Voilà donc toutes les tribus d’Israël, les douze. Et voilà ce que leur père leur a dit lorsqu’il les a bénies. Il les a bénies, chacune a eu droit à sa bénédiction.
29 And he instructed them, saying: “I am being gathered to my people. Bury me with my fathers in the double cave, which is in the field of Ephron the Hittite,	29 Jacob leur donna alors cet ordre: “Je vais être réuni à mon peuple. Enterrez-moi avec mes pères dans la grotte du champ d’Éfron, le Hittite,
30 opposite Mamre, in the land of Canaan, which Abraham bought, along with its field, from Ephron the Hittite, as a possession for burial.	30 la grotte du champ de Makpéla, face à Mambré, au pays de Canaan. C’est le champ qu’Abraham a acheté à Éfron le Hittite, pour avoir une tombe à lui.
31 There they buried him, with his wife Sarah.” And there Isaac was buried with his wife Rebekah. There also Leah lies preserved.	31 C’est là que l’on a enterré Abraham et Sara, sa femme. Là aussi l’on a enterré Isaac et Rébecca, sa femme; là aussi j’ai enterré Léa.
32 And having finished these commands by which he instructed his sons, he drew his feet onto the bed, and he passed away. And he was gathered to his people.	32 Le champ et la grotte ont été achetés aux fils de Heth.”
	33 Quand Jacob termina de donner ses instructions à ses fils, il ramena ses pieds dans son lit, il mourut et fut réuni à ses pères.
