Galatians 5

1 For freedom Christ set us free; so stand firm and do not submit again to the yoke of slavery.	1 - A tal libertà Cristo dunque ci ha liberati; voi state saldi e non lasciatevi impigliare di nuovo nel giogo di servitù.
2 It is I, Paul, who am telling you that if you have yourselves circumcised, Christ will be of no benefit to you.	2 Vedete, son io Paolo che ve lo dico: se vi fate circoncidere, Cristo non vi gioverà a nulla.
3 Once again I declare to every man who has himself circumcised that he is bound to observe the entire law.	3 Ma a chiunque è circonciso di nuovo dichiaro che egli è in dovere di osservare tutta la Legge.
4 You are separated from Christ, you who are trying to be justified by law; you have fallen from grace.	4 Siete stati abbandonati dal Cristo voi che volete esser giustificati nella Legge; siete decaduti dalla grazia;
5 For through the Spirit, by faith, we await the hope of righteousness.	5 noi, con lo spirito dalla fede riceviamo speranza di giustizia.
6 For in Christ Jesus, neither circumcision nor uncircumcision counts for anything, but only faith working through love.	6 In Cristo Gesù non ha valore l'essere circonciso o incirconciso, ma vale la fede operante per mezzo dell'amore.
7 You were running well; who hindered you from following (the) truth?	7 Voi correvate così bene, chi vi ha urtato per via da non aderire più alla verità?
8 That enticement does not come from the one who called you.	8 questa persuasione vostra non viene da Colui che vi chiama.
9 A little yeast leavens the whole batch of dough.	9 Un po' di fermento fa fermentare tutta la pasta.
10 I am confident of you in the Lord that you will not take a different view, and that the one who is troubling you will bear the condemnation, whoever he may be.	10 Io per voi ho fiducia nel Signore che non sentirete diversamente; ma chi vi conturba porterà la condanna, chiunque egli sia.
11 As for me, brothers, if I am still preaching circumcision, why am I still being persecuted? In that case, the stumbling block of the cross has been abolished.	11 Quanto a me, o fratelli, se ancora prèdico la circoncisione, perchè sono ancora perseguitato? sarebbe pur così eliminato lo scandalo della croce!
12 Would that those who are upsetting you might also castrate themselves!	12 Oh, dovrebbero addirittura farsi evirare costoro che portan tra voi tale scompiglio!
13 For you were called for freedom, brothers. But do not use this freedom as an opportunity for the flesh; rather, serve one another through love.	13 Ma voi sarete stati chiamati a libertà, o fratelli; solo non dovete usar la libertà come occasione alla carne, ma dovete per amore dello Spirito servire gli uni gli altri.
14 For the whole law is fulfilled in one statement, namely, "You shall love your neighbor as yourself."	14 Poichè tutta la Legge ha la sua pienezza in quelle parole: "Amerai il tuo prossimo come te stesso".
15 But if you go on biting and devouring one another, beware that you are not consumed by one another.	15 Se vi mordete o vi divorate gli uni gli altri, badate che non vi distruggiate a vicenda.
16 I say, then: live by the Spirit and you will certainly not gratify the desire of the flesh.	16 Io dico invece: Conducetevi secondo lo spirito, e non soddisfate ai desiderii della carne.
17 For the flesh has desires against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; these are opposed to each other, so that you may not do what you want.	17 La carne ha desiderii contrari allo spirito e lo spirito li ha contrari alla carne; son cose opposte fra loro, sì che voi non dovete fare tutto quel che vorreste.
18 But if you are guided by the Spirit, you are not under the law.	18 E se vi lasciate condurre dallo Spirito, non siete più sotto la Legge.
19 Now the works of the flesh are obvious: immorality, impurity, licentiousness,	19 Or le opere della carne è chiaro quali sono: fornicazione, impurità, dissolutezza, lussuria,
20 idolatry, sorcery, hatreds, rivalry, jealousy, outbursts of fury, acts of selfishness, dissensions, factions,	20 idolatria, venefizi, inimicizie, discordie, gelosie, risentimenti, contese, divisioni, sètte,
21 occasions of envy, drinking bouts, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.	21 invidie, omicidii, ubriachezza e gozzoviglie, e cose simili; io vi prevengo, come ho già detto prima, che quelli che fanno codeste cose non avranno in eredità il regno di Dio.
22 In contrast, the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness,	22 Invece frutto dello Spirito è l'amore, la gioia, la pace, la pazienza,
23 gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law.	23 la benignità, la bontà, la longanimità, la mitezza, la fede, la moderazione, la continenza, la castità. Contro siffatte cose non c'è Legge.
24 Now those who belong to Christ (Jesus) have crucified their flesh with its passions and desires.	24 I seguaci di Cristo Gesù hanno crocifisso la carne con le sue passioni e le sue concupiscenze.
25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also follow the Spirit.	25 Se viviamo collo spirito procediamo anche collo spirito;
26 Let us not be conceited, provoking one another, envious of one another.	26 non siamo vanagloriosi, provocatori gli uni degli altri, e invidiosi gli uni degli altri.
