| 1 וכל ישראל התיחשו והנם כתובים על ספר מלכי ישראל ויהודה הגלו לבבל במעלם | 1 So all Israel was enrolled by genealogies; and these are written in the Book of the Kings of Israel. And Judah was taken into exile in Babylon because of their unfaithfulness. |
| 2 והיושבים הראשנים אשר באחזתם בעריהם ישראל הכהנים הלוים והנתינים | 2 Now the first to dwell again in their possessions in their cities were Israel, the priests, the Levites, and the temple servants. |
| 3 ובירושלם ישבו מן בני יהודה ומן בני בנימן ומן בני אפרים ומנשה | 3 And some of the people of Judah, Benjamin, Ephraim, and Manasseh dwelt in Jerusalem: |
| 4 עותי בן עמיהוד בן עמרי בן אמרי בן בנימן בני פרץ בן יהודה | 4 Uthai the son of Ammihud, son of Omri, son of Imri, son of Bani, from the sons of Perez the son of Judah. |
| 5 ומן השילוני עשיה הבכור ובניו | 5 And of the Shilonites: Asaiah the first-born, and his sons. |
| 6 ומן בני זרח יעואל ואחיהם שש מאות ותשעים | 6 Of the sons of Zerah: Jeuel and their kinsmen, six hundred and ninety. |
| 7 ומן בני בנימן סלוא בן משלם בן הודויה בן הסנאה | 7 Of the Benjaminites: Sallu the son of Meshullam, son of Hodaviah, son of Hassenuah, |
| 8 ויבניה בן ירחם ואלה בן עזי בן מכרי ומשלם בן שפטיה בן רעואל בן יבניה | 8 Ibneiah the son of Jeroham, Elah the son of Uzzi, son of Michri, and Meshullam the son of Shephatiah, son of Reuel, son of Ibnijah; |
| 9 ואחיהם לתלדותם תשע מאות וחמשים וששה כל אלה אנשים ראשי אבות לבית אבתיהם | 9 and their kinsmen according to their generations, nine hundred and fifty-six. All these were heads of fathers' houses according to their fathers' houses. |
| 10 ומן הכהנים ידעיה ויהויריב ויכין | 10 Of the priests: Jedaiah, Jehoiarib, Jachin, |
| 11 ועזריה בן חלקיה בן משלם בן צדוק בן מריות בן אחיטוב נגיד בית האלהים | 11 and Azariah the son of Hilkiah, son of Meshullam, son of Zadok, son of Meraioth, son of Ahitub, the chief officer of the house of God; |
| 12 ועדיה בן ירחם בן פשחור בן מלכיה ומעשי בן עדיאל בן יחזרה בן משלם בן משלמית בן אמר | 12 and Adaiah the son of Jeroham, son of Pashhur, son of Malchijah, and Maasai the son of Adi-el, son of Jahzerah, son of Meshullam, son of Meshillemith, son of Immer; |
| 13 ואחיהם ראשים לבית אבותם אלף ושבע מאות וששים גבורי חיל מלאכת עבודת בית האלהים | 13 besides their kinsmen, heads of their fathers' houses, one thousand seven hundred and sixty, very able men for the work of the service of the house of God. |
| 14 ומן הלוים שמעיה בן חשוב בן עזריקם בן חשביה מן בני מררי | 14 Of the Levites: Shemaiah the son of Hasshub, son of Azrikam, son of Hashabiah, of the sons of Merari; |
| 15 ובקבקר חרש וגלל ומתניה בן מיכא בן זכרי בן אסף | 15 and Bakbakkar, Heresh, Galal, and Mattaniah the son of Mica, son of Zichri, son of Asaph; |
| 16 ועבדיה בן שמעיה בן גלל בן ידותון וברכיה בן אסא בן אלקנה היושב בחצרי נטופתי | 16 and Obadiah the son of Shemaiah, son of Galal, son of Jeduthun, and Berechiah the son of Asa, son of Elkanah, who dwelt in the villages of the Netophathites. |
| 17 והשערים שלום ועקוב וטלמן ואחימן ואחיהם שלום הראש | 17 The gatekeepers were: Shallum, Akkub, Talmon, Ahiman, and their kinsmen (Shallum being the chief), |
| 18 ועד הנה בשער המלך מזרחה המה השערים למחנות בני לוי | 18 stationed hitherto in the king's gate on the east side. These were the gatekeepers of the camp of the Levites. |
| 19 ושלום בן קורא בן אביסף בן קרח ואחיו לבית אביו הקרחים על מלאכת העבודה שמרי הספים לאהל ואבתיהם על מחנה יהוה שמרי המבוא | 19 Shallum the son of Kore, son of Ebiasaph, son of Korah, and his kinsmen of his fathers' house, the Korahites, were in charge of the work of the service, keepers of the thresholds of the tent, as their fathers had been in charge of the camp of the LORD, keepers of the entrance. |
| 20 ופינחס בן אלעזר נגיד היה עליהם לפנים יהוה עמו | 20 And Phinehas the son of Eleazar was the ruler over them in time past; the LORD was with him. |
| 21 זכריה בן משלמיה שער פתח לאהל מועד | 21 Zechariah the son of Meshelemiah was gatekeeper at the entrance of the tent of meeting. |
| 22 כלם הברורים לשערים בספים מאתים ושנים עשר המה בחצריהם התיחשם המה יסד דויד ושמואל הראה באמונתם | 22 All these, who were chosen as gatekeepers at the thresholds, were two hundred and twelve. They were enrolled by genealogies in their villages. David and Samuel the seer established them in their office of trust. |
| 23 והם ובניהם על השערים לבית יהוה לבית האהל למשמרות | 23 So they and their sons were in charge of the gates of the house of the LORD, that is, the house of the tent, as guards. |
| 24 לארבע רוחות יהיו השערים מזרח ימה צפונה ונגבה | 24 The gatekeepers were on the four sides, east, west, north, and south; |
| 25 ואחיהם בחצריהם לבוא לשבעת הימים מעת אל עת עם אלה | 25 and their kinsmen who were in their villages were obliged to come in every seven days, from time to time, to be with these; |
| 26 כי באמונה המה ארבעת גברי השערים הם הלוים והיו על הלשכות ועל האצרות בית האלהים | 26 for the four chief gatekeepers, who were Levites, were in charge of the chambers and the treasures of the house of God. |
| 27 וסביבות בית האלהים ילינו כי עליהם משמרת והם על המפתח ולבקר לבקר | 27 And they lodged round about the house of God; for upon them lay the duty of watching, and they had charge of opening it every morning. |
| 28 ומהם על כלי העבודה כי במספר יביאום ובמספר יוציאום | 28 Some of them had charge of the utensils of service, for they were required to count them when they were brought in and taken out. |
| 29 ומהם ממנים על הכלים ועל כל כלי הקדש ועל הסלת והיין והשמן והלבונה והבשמים | 29 Others of them were appointed over the furniture, and over all the holy utensils, also over the fine flour, the wine, the oil, the incense, and the spices. |
| 30 ומן בני הכהנים רקחי המרקחת לבשמים | 30 Others, of the sons of the priests, prepared the mixing of the spices, |
| 31 ומתתיה מן הלוים הוא הבכור לשלם הקרחי באמונה על מעשה החבתים | 31 and Mattithiah, one of the Levites, the first-born of Shallum the Korahite, was in charge of making the flat cakes. |
| 32 ומן בני הקהתי מן אחיהם על לחם המערכת להכין שבת שבת | 32 Also some of their kinsmen of the Kohathites had charge of the showbread, to prepare it every sabbath. |
| 33 ואלה המשררים ראשי אבות ללוים בלשכת פטירים כי יומם ולילה עליהם במלאכה | 33 Now these are the singers, the heads of fathers' houses of the Levites, dwelling in the chambers of the temple free from other service, for they were on duty day and night. |
| 34 אלה ראשי האבות ללוים לתלדותם ראשים אלה ישבו בירושלם | 34 These were heads of fathers' houses of the Levites, according to their generations, leaders, who lived in Jerusalem. |
| 35 ובגבעון ישבו אבי גבעון יעואל ושם אשתו מעכה | 35 In Gibeon dwelt the father of Gibeon, Je-iel, and the name of his wife was Maacah, |
| 36 ובנו הבכור עבדון וצור וקיש ובעל ונר ונדב | 36 and his first-born son Abdon, then Zur, Kish, Baal, Ner, Nadab, |
| 37 וגדור ואחיו וזכריה ומקלות | 37 Gedor, Ahio, Zech-ariah and Mikloth; |
| 38 ומקלות הוליד את שמאם ואף הם נגד אחיהם ישבו בירושלם עם אחיהם | 38 and Mikloth was the father of Shime-am; and these also dwelt opposite their kinsmen in Jerusalem, with their kinsmen. |
| 39 ונר הוליד את קיש וקיש הוליד את שאול ושאול הוליד את יהונתן ואת מלכי שוע ואת אבינדב ואת אשבעל | 39 Ner was the father of Kish, Kish of Saul, Saul of Jonathan, Malchishua, Abinadab, and Eshbaal; |
| 40 ובן יהונתן מריב בעל ומרי בעל הוליד את מיכה | 40 and the son of Jonathan was Merib-baal; and Merib-baal was the father of Micah. |
| 41 ובני מיכה פיתון ומלך ותחרע | 41 The sons of Micah: Pithon, Melech, Tahre-a, and Ahaz; |
| 42 ואחז הוליד את יערה ויערה הוליד את עלמת ואת עזמות ואת זמרי וזמרי הוליד את מוצא | 42 and Ahaz was the father of Jarah, and Jarah of Alemeth, Azmaveth, and Zimri; and Zimri was the father of Moza. |
| 43 ומוצא הוליד את בנעא ורפיה בנו אלעשה בנו אצל בנו | 43 Moza was the father of Bine-a; and Rephaiah was his son, Ele-asah his son, Azel his son. |
| 44 ולאצל ששה בנים ואלה שמותם עזריקם בכרו וישמעאל ושעריה ועבדיה וחנן אלה בני אצל | 44 Azel had six sons and these are their names: Azrikam, Bocheru, Ishmael, She-ariah, Obadiah, and Hanan; these were the sons of Azel. |
