1 If there be therefore any consolation in Christ, if any comfort of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any bowels and mercies,	1 - Se dunque è possibile qualche consolazione in Cristo, se v'è qualche conforto dell'amore, se v'è qualche comunanza di spirito, se avete viscere di compassione,
2 Fulfil ye my joy, that ye be likeminded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind.	2 rendete compiuto il mio gaudio della concordia vostra, avendo uno stesso amore, una stessa anima, uno stesso sentire;
3 Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves.	3 nulla si faccia per spirito di rivalità o per vanagloria, ma per umiltà, ritenendo ciascuno gli altri superiori a se stesso;
4 Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others.	4 non guardi ciascuno solo alle cose proprie ma anche a quelle degli altri.
5 Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:	5 Abbiate in voi quel sentire che era anche in Gesù Cristo,
6 Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God:	6 il quale, sussistendo in natura di Dio, non considerò questa sua eguaglianza con Dio come una rapina,
7 But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men:	7 ma svuotò se stesso, assumendo la natura di schiavo, e facendosi simile all'uomo; e in tutto il suo esteriore atteggiamento riconosciuto come un uomo,
8 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.	8 umiliò se stesso, fattosi obbediente sino alla morte, e alla morte di croce.
9 Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name:	9 Perciò Iddio lo esaltò, e gli diede il nome che è sopra ogni nome,
10 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;	10 affinchè nel nome di Gesù ogni ginocchio si pieghi, e degli esseri celesti e dei terrestri, e di quei sotto terra,
11 And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.	11 e ogni lingua confessi che Signore è Gesù Cristo nella gloria di Dio Padre.
12 Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.	12 Conseguentemente, o carissimi, come sempre siete stati obbedienti, non solo come se fossi presente, ma tanto più nella mia assenza, col timore e tremore procacciate la vostra salvezza;
13 For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.	13 poichè Dio è che produce in voi e il volere e l'agire con buona volontà.
14 Do all things without murmurings and disputings:	14 Fate ogni cosa senza mormorazioni e senza dispute,
15 That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world;	15 affinchè siate irreprensibili e schietti figli di Dio, senza biasimo in mezzo a una generazione prava e perversa, fra cui voi risplendete come luminari nel mondo,
16 Holding forth the word of life; that I may rejoice in the day of Christ, that I have not run in vain, neither laboured in vain.	16 conservando la parola della vita, affinchè io possa menar vanto, nel giorno di Cristo, di non aver corso invano e invano faticato.
17 Yea, and if I be offered upon the sacrifice and service of your faith, I joy, and rejoice with you all.	17 Ma se anche io fossi immolato, godo del sacrifizio e dell'offerta della vostra fede, ne godo e me ne rallegro con tutti voi;
18 For the same cause also do ye joy, and rejoice with me.	18 godete anche voialtri di questo e rallegratevene con me.
19 But I trust in the Lord Jesus to send Timotheus shortly unto you, that I also may be of good comfort, when I know your state.	19 E io spero nel Signore Gesù di mandarvi questo Timoteo, affinchè anch'io stia di buon animo venendo a notizia delle cose vostre.
20 For I have no man likeminded, who will naturally care for your state.	20 Giacchè non ho nessuno che sia così d'accordo con me, e che con sincera affezione s'interessi di voi;
21 For all seek their own, not the things which are Jesus Christ's.	21 tutti cercano le cose proprie, non quelle di Cristo Gesù.
22 But ye know the proof of him, that, as a son with the father, he hath served with me in the gospel.	22 E voi dovete riconoscere il saggio che Timoteo ha dato di sè, in quanto come figlio rispetto al padre ha servito con me a pro del Vangelo.
23 Him therefore I hope to send presently, so soon as I shall see how it will go with me.	23 Lui dunque spero di mandarvi non appena avrò visto che piega prendano le cose mie;
24 But I trust in the Lord that I also myself shall come shortly.	24 e confido nel Signore che verrò presto anch'io.
25 Yet I supposed it necessary to send to you Epaphroditus, my brother, and companion in labour, and fellowsoldier, but your messenger, and he that ministered to my wants.	25 Ma intanto ho stimato necessario mandarvi Epafrodito, fratello e cooperatore e commilitone mio, vostro messaggero e ministro delle mie necessità,
26 For he longed after you all, and was full of heaviness, because that ye had heard that he had been sick.	26 poichè egli aveva gran desiderio di tutti voi, ed era tutto triste perchè voi avevate sentito parlare della sua malattia;
27 For indeed he was sick nigh unto death: but God had mercy on him; and not on him only, but on me also, lest I should have sorrow upon sorrow.	27 difatti si ammalò a morte; ma Dio ebbe compassione di lui; e non solo di lui, ma anche di me, perchè io non avessi dolore sopra dolore.
28 I sent him therefore the more carefully, that, when ye see him again, ye may rejoice, and that I may be the less sorrowful.	28 Perciò mi sono affrettato a inviarlo, perchè, vedendolo, vi rallegriate di nuovo, e anch'io sia meno in pensiero.
29 Receive him therefore in the Lord with all gladness; and hold such in reputation:	29 Accoglietelo dunque nel Signore con tutta gioia, e abbiate in onore siffatti uomini, perchè per l'opera di Cristo s'avvicinò fino alla morte, mettendo al rischio la propria vita, per supplire a quel che non potevate far voi in mio servigio.
30 Because for the work of Christ he was nigh unto death, not regarding his life, to supply your lack of service toward me.
