1 Then came together unto him the Pharisees, and certain of the scribes, which came from Jerusalem.	1 Autour de lui s’étaient rassemblés les Pharisiens, ainsi que plusieurs maîtres de la Loi venus de Jérusalem.
2 And when they saw some of his disciples eat bread with defiled, that is to say, with unwashen, hands, they found fault.	2 Ils virent que certains de ses disciples mangeaient le pain avec des mains impures, c’est-à-dire non lavées.
3 For the Pharisees, and all the Jews, except they wash their hands oft, eat not, holding the tradition of the elders.	3 Il faut savoir que les Pharisiens, et les Juifs en général, ne mangent pas sans s’être lavé les mains jusqu’au coude pour respecter la tradition des anciens.
4 And when they come from the market, except they wash, they eat not. And many other things there be, which they have received to hold, as the washing of cups, and pots, brasen vessels, and of tables.	4 Lorsqu’ils reviennent des lieux publics, ils ne mangent pas avant de s’être aspergés d’eau, et il y a encore bien d’autres coutumes auxquelles ils sont attachés: purification des coupes, des pots et des cruches en bronze.
5 Then the Pharisees and scribes asked him, Why walk not thy disciples according to the tradition of the elders, but eat bread with unwashen hands?	5 Voici donc les Pharisiens et les maîtres de la Loi qui l’interrogent: "Pourquoi tes disciples ne suivent-ils pas la tradition des anciens? Tu vois qu’ils mangent le pain avec des mains impures.”
6 He answered and said unto them, Well hath Esaias prophesied of you hypocrites, as it is written, This people honoureth me with their lips, but their heart is far from me.	6 Jésus leur répond: "Comédiens! Isaïe a joliment bien parlé de vous quand il a écrit: Ce peuple m’honore des lèvres, mais son cœur est loin de moi.
7 Howbeit in vain do they worship me, teaching for doctines the commandments of men.	7 Leur culte ne vaut rien et les préceptes qu’ils enseignent ne sont que des lois humaines.
8 For laying aside the commandment of God, ye hold the tradition of men, as the washing of pots and cups: and many other such like things ye do.	8 Vous négligez le commandement de Dieu pour maintenir les traditions humaines!”
9 And he said unto them, Full well ye reject the commandment of God, that ye may keep your own tradition.	9 Jésus reprit: "Comme vous savez rejeter le commandement de Dieu pour ne pas lâcher votre propre tradition!
10 For Moses said, Honour thy father and thy mother; and, Whoso curseth father or mother, let him die the death:	10 Voyez, Moïse a dit: Honore ton père et ta mère, et encore: Celui qui maudit père ou mère sera mis à mort.
11 But ye say, If a man shall say to his father or mother, It is Corban, that is to say, a gift, by whatsoever thou mightest be profited by me; he shall be free.	11 Mais selon vous, quelqu’un peut dire à ses père et mère: ‘J’ai déclaré qorban, c’est-à-dire consacré à Dieu, ce que tu pouvais attendre de moi’.
12 And ye suffer him no more to do ought for his father or his mother;	12 Et dans ce cas vous ne le laissez plus aider son père ou sa mère.
13 Making the word of God of none effect through your tradition, which ye have delivered: and many such like things do ye.	13 Ainsi vous annulez la parole de Dieu au profit d’une tradition que vous vous transmettez. Et que de choses semblables dans vos pratiques!”
14 And when he had called all the people unto him, he said unto them, Hearken unto me every one of you, and understand:	14 De nouveau Jésus appelle son monde. Il leur dit: "Écoutez et tâchez de comprendre.
15 There is nothing from without a man, that entering into him can defile him: but the things which come out of him, those are they that defile the man.	15 Tout ce qui est extérieur à l’homme ne peut pas le rendre impur; ce qui le rend impur, c’est ce qui est sorti de lui.
16 If any man have ears to hear, let him hear.	16 Que celui qui a des oreilles pour entendre, entende!”
17 And when he was entered into the house from the people, his disciples asked him concerning the parable.	17 Lorsque Jésus a quitté la foule et rentre à la maison, les disciples l’interrogent sur cette sentence.
18 And he saith unto them, Are ye so without understanding also? Do ye not perceive, that whatsoever thing from without entereth into the man, it cannot defile him;	18 Il leur dit: "Vous aussi, vous êtes bouchés à ce point? Ne comprenez-vous pas que tout ce qui du dehors entre dans l’homme ne peut le rendre impur?
19 Because it entereth not into his heart, but into the belly, and goeth out into the draught, purging all meats?	19 Cela ne va pas au cœur, mais au ventre, et finit sur le fumier.” Donc, pour Jésus, tous les aliments devenaient purs.
20 And he said, That which cometh out of the man, that defileth the man.	20 Et il continuait: "Ce qui sort de l’homme, c’est cela qui le rend impur.
21 For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders,	21 Car du cœur sortent les réflexions malveillantes,
22 Thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness:	22 les prostitutions, les vols, les assassinats, les adultères, la soif d’argent, les méchancetés, les perfidies, la débauche, l’envie, les blasphèmes, l’orgueil et la démesure.
23 All these evil things come from within, and defile the man.	23 Toutes ces choses mauvaises viennent du dedans et rendent l’homme impur.
24 And from thence he arose, and went into the borders of Tyre and Sidon, and entered into an house, and would have no man know it: but he could not be hid.	24 Jésus quitta cet endroit, se dirigeant vers la frontière de Tyr. Il entra dans une maison, bien décidé à ce que personne ne le sache, mais il ne put rester inaperçu.
25 For a certain woman, whose young daughter had an unclean spirit, heard of him, and came and fell at his feet:	25 Bientôt se présenta une femme qui avait entendu parler de lui. Sa petite fille était possédée par un esprit impur, et elle vint tomber à ses pieds.
26 The woman was a Greek, a Syrophenician by nation; and she besought him that he would cast forth the devil out of her daughter.	26 C’était une femme grecque de Syrie, d’origine phénicienne, et elle suppliait Jésus de faire sortir le démon de sa fille.
27 But Jesus said unto her, Let the children first be filled: for it is not meet to take the children's bread, and to cast it unto the dogs.	27 Jésus lui répond: "Laisse d’abord les enfants manger à leur faim. On ne prend pas le pain des enfants pour le jeter aux petits chiens.”
28 And she answered and said unto him, Yes, Lord: yet the dogs under the table eat of the children's crumbs.	28 Mais elle réplique: "Seigneur, les petits chiens sous la table, mangent les miettes des enfants.”
29 And he said unto her, For this saying go thy way; the devil is gone out of thy daughter.	29 Jésus lui dit: "À cause de cette parole, tu peux t’en retourner: le démon est sorti de ta fille.”
30 And when she was come to her house, she found the devil gone out, and her daughter laid upon the bed.	30 La femme rentra chez elle et trouva la petite fille allongée sur le lit: le démon était sorti.
31 And again, departing from the coasts of Tyre and Sidon, he came unto the sea of Galilee, through the midst of the coasts of Decapolis.	31 De nouveau Jésus se déplace; de la région de Tyr il passe par Sidon et, longeant la mer de Galilée, il arrive en territoire de la Décapole.
32 And they bring unto him one that was deaf, and had an impediment in his speech; and they beseech him to put his hand upon him.	32 C’est alors qu’on lui amène un sourd-muet, en le suppliant pour qu’il lui impose les mains.
33 And he took him aside from the multitude, and put his fingers into his ears, and he spit, and touched his tongue;	33 Jésus le prend à l’écart de la foule, il lui met les doigts sur les oreilles, puis il crache et touche sa langue.
34 And looking up to heaven, he sighed, and saith unto him, Ephphatha, that is, Be opened.	34 Alors il lève les yeux vers le ciel et dit, comme peiné: "Effata!”, c’est-à-dire: “Ouvre-toi!”
35 And straightway his ears were opened, and the string of his tongue was loosed, and he spake plain.	35 Aussitôt ses oreilles s’ouvrent et le lien de sa langue se délie: il commence à parler correctement.
36 And he charged them that they should tell no man: but the more he charged them, so much the more a great deal they published it;	36 Jésus les avertit de n’en rien dire à personne; mais plus il insistait, plus eux s’empressaient de le raconter partout.
37 And were beyond measure astonished, saying, He hath done all things well: he maketh both the deaf to hear, and the dumb to speak.	37 Les gens en étaient hors d’eux-mêmes et ils disaient: "Il a bien fait toutes choses, il fait entendre les sourds et parler les muets!”
