Matthew 21

1 And when they drew nigh unto Jerusalem, and were come to Bethphage, unto the mount of Olives, then sent Jesus two disciples,	1 Quand ils approchèrent de Jérusalem et arrivèrent en vue de Bethphagé, au mont des Oliviers,alors Jésus envoya deux disciples
2 Saying unto them, Go into the village over against you, and straightway ye shall find an ass tied, and a colt with her: loose them, and bring them unto me.	2 en leur disant: "Rendez-vous au village qui est en face de vous; et aussitôt vous trouverez, àl'attache, une ânesse avec son ânon près d'elle; détachez-la et amenez-les-moi.
3 And if any man say ought unto you, ye shall say, The Lord hath need of them; and straightway he will send them.	3 Et si quelqu'un vous dit quelque chose, vous direz: Le Seigneur en a besoin, mais aussitôt il lesrenverra."
4 All this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying,	4 Ceci advint pour que s'accomplît l'oracle du prophète:
5 Tell ye the daughter of Sion, Behold, thy King cometh unto thee, meek, and sitting upon an ass, and a colt the foal of an ass.	5 Dites à la fille de Sion: Voici que ton Roi vient à toi; modeste, il monte une ânesse, et un ânon,petit d'une bête de somme.
6 And the disciples went, and did as Jesus commanded them,	6 Les disciples allèrent donc et, faisant comme leur avait ordonné Jésus,
7 And brought the ass, and the colt, and put on them their clothes, and they set him thereon.	7 ils amenèrent l'ânesse et l'ânon. Puis ils disposèrent sur eux leurs manteaux et Jésus s'assit dessus.
8 And a very great multitude spread their garments in the way; others cut down branches from the trees, and strawed them in the way.	8 Alors les gens, en très nombreuse foule, étendirent leurs manteaux sur le chemin; d'autrescoupaient des branches aux arbres et en jonchaient le chemin.
9 And the multitudes that went before, and that followed, cried, saying, Hosanna to the Son of David: Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord; Hosanna in the highest.	9 Les foules qui marchaient devant lui et celles qui suivaient criaient: "Hosanna au fils de David!Béni soit celui qui vient au nom du Seigneur! Hosanna au plus haut des cieux!"
10 And when he was come into Jerusalem, all the city was moved, saying, Who is this?	10 Quand il entra dans Jérusalem, toute la ville fut agitée. "Qui est-ce?" Disait-on,
11 And the multitude said, This is Jesus the prophet of Nazareth of Galilee.	11 et les foules disaient: "C'est le prophète Jésus, de Nazareth en Galilée."
12 And Jesus went into the temple of God, and cast out all them that sold and bought in the temple, and overthrew the tables of the moneychangers, and the seats of them that sold doves,	12 Puis Jésus entra dans le Temple et chassa tous les vendeurs et acheteurs qui s'y trouvaient: ilculbuta les tables des changeurs, ainsi que les sièges des marchands de colombes.
13 And said unto them, It is written, My house shall be called the house of prayer; but ye have made it a den of thieves.	13 Et il leur dit: "Il est écrit: Ma maison sera appelée une maison de prière. Mais vous, vous enfaites un repaire de brigands!"
14 And the blind and the lame came to him in the temple; and he healed them.	14 Il y eut aussi des aveugles et des boiteux qui s'approchèrent de lui dans le Temple, et il lesguérit.
15 And when the chief priests and scribes saw the wonderful things that he did, and the children crying in the temple, and saying, Hosanna to the Son of David; they were sore displeased,	15 Voyant les prodiges qu'il venait d'accomplir et ces enfants qui criaient dans le Temple:"Hosanna au fils de David", les grands prêtres et les scribes furent indignés
16 And said unto him, Hearest thou what these say? And Jesus saith unto them, Yea; have ye never read, Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings thou hast perfected praise?	16 et ils lui dirent: "Tu entends ce qu'ils disent, ceux-là" - "Parfaitement, leur dit Jésus; n'avez-vousjamais lu ce texte: De la bouche des tout-petits et des nourrissons, tu t'es ménagé une louange?"
17 And he left them, and went out of the city into Bethany; and he lodged there.	17 Et les laissant, il sortit de la ville pour aller à Béthanie, où il passa la nuit.
18 Now in the morning as he returned into the city, he hungered.	18 Comme il rentrait en ville de bon matin, il eut faim.
19 And when he saw a fig tree in the way, he came to it, and found nothing thereon, but leaves only, and said unto it, Let no fruit grow on thee henceforward for ever. And presently the fig tree withered away.	19 Voyant un figuier près du chemin, il s'en approcha, mais n'y trouva rien que des feuilles. Il luidit alors: "Jamais plus tu ne porteras de fruit!" Et à l'instant même le figuier devint sec.
20 And when the disciples saw it, they marvelled, saying, How soon is the fig tree withered away!	20 A cette vue, les disciples dirent tout étonnés: "Comment, en un instant, le figuier est-il devenusec?"
21 Jesus answered and said unto them, Verily I say unto you, If ye have faith, and doubt not, ye shall not only do this which is done to the fig tree, but also if ye shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; it shall be done.	21 Jésus leur répondit: "En vérité je vous le dis, si vous avez une foi qui n'hésite point, nonseulement vous ferez ce que je viens de faire au figuier, mais même si vous dites à cette montagne: Soulève-toiet jette-toi dans la mer, cela se fera.
22 And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive.	22 Et tout ce que vous demanderez dans une prière pleine de foi, vous l'obtiendrez."
23 And when he was come into the temple, the chief priests and the elders of the people came unto him as he was teaching, and said, By what authority doest thou these things? and who gave thee this authority?	23 Il était entré dans le Temple et il enseignait, quand les grands prêtres et les anciens du peuples'approchèrent et lui dirent: "Par quelle autorité fais-tu cela? Et qui t'a donné cette autorité?"
24 And Jesus answered and said unto them, I also will ask you one thing, which if ye tell me, I in like wise will tell you by what authority I do these things.	24 Jésus leur répondit: "De mon côté, je vais vous poser une question, une seule; si vous m'yrépondez, moi aussi je vous dirai par quelle autorité je fais cela.
25 The baptism of John, whence was it? from heaven, or of men? And they reasoned with themselves, saying, If we shall say, From heaven; he will say unto us, Why did ye not then believe him?	25 Le baptême de Jean, d'où était-il? Du Ciel ou des hommes?" Mais ils se faisaient en eux-mêmesce raisonnement: "Si nous disons: Du Ciel', il nous dira: Pourquoi donc n'avez-vous pas cru en lui?
26 But if we shall say, Of men; we fear the people; for all hold John as a prophet.	26 Et si nous disons: Des hommes, nous avons à craindre la foule, car tous tiennent Jean pour unprophète."
27 And they answered Jesus, and said, We cannot tell. And he said unto them, Neither tell I you by what authority I do these things.	27 Et ils firent à Jésus cette réponse: "Nous ne savons pas." De son côté il répliqua: "Moi non plus,je ne vous dis pas par quelle autorité je fais cela."
28 But what think ye? A certain man had two sons; and he came to the first, and said, Son, go work to day in my vineyard.	28 "Mais dites-moi votre avis. Un homme avait deux enfants. S'adressant au premier, il dit: Monenfant, va-t'en aujourd'hui travailler à la vigne. --
29 He answered and said, I will not: but afterward he repented, and went.	29 Je ne veux pas, répondit-il; ensuite pris de remords, il y alla.
30 And he came to the second, and said likewise. And he answered and said, I go, sir: and went not.	30 S'adressant au second, il dit la même chose; l'autre répondit: Entendu, Seigneur, et il n'y allapoint.
31 Whether of them twain did the will of his father? They say unto him, The first. Jesus saith unto them, Verily I say unto you, That the publicans and the harlots go into the kingdom of God before you.	31 Lequel des deux a fait la volonté du père" - "Le premier", disent-ils. Jésus leur dit: "En vérité jevous le dis, les publicains et les prostituées arrivent avant vous au Royaume de Dieu.
32 For John came unto you in the way of righteousness, and ye believed him not: but the publicans and the harlots believed him: and ye, when ye had seen it, repented not afterward, that ye might believe him.	32 En effet, Jean est venu à vous dans la voie de la justice, et vous n'avez pas cru en lui; lespublicains, eux, et les prostituées ont cru en lui; et vous, devant cet exemple, vous n'avez même pas eu unremords tardif qui vous fît croire en lui."
33 Hear another parable: There was a certain householder, which planted a vineyard, and hedged it round about, and digged a winepress in it, and built a tower, and let it out to husbandmen, and went into a far country:	33 "Ecoutez une autre parabole. Un homme était propriétaire, et il planta une vigne; il l'entourad'une clôture, y creusa un pressoir et y bâtit une tour; puis il la loua à des vignerons et partit en voyage.
34 And when the time of the fruit drew near, he sent his servants to the husbandmen, that they might receive the fruits of it.	34 Quand approcha le moment des fruits, il envoya ses serviteurs aux vignerons pour en recevoirles fruits.
35 And the husbandmen took his servants, and beat one, and killed another, and stoned another.	35 Mais les vignerons se saisirent de ses serviteurs, battirent l'un, tuèrent l'autre, en lapidèrent untroisième.
36 Again, he sent other servants more than the first: and they did unto them likewise.	36 De nouveau il envoya d'autres serviteurs, plus nombreux que les premiers, et ils les traitèrent demême.
37 But last of all he sent unto them his son, saying, They will reverence my son.	37 Finalement il leur envoya son fils, en se disant: Ils respecteront mon fils.
38 But when the husbandmen saw the son, they said among themselves, This is the heir; come, let us kill him, and let us seize on his inheritance.	38 Mais les vignerons, en voyant le fils, se dirent par-devers eux: Celui-ci est l'héritier: venez!tuons-le, que nous ayons son héritage.
39 And they caught him, and cast him out of the vineyard, and slew him.	39 Et, le saisissant, ils le jetèrent hors de la vigne et le tuèrent.
40 When the lord therefore of the vineyard cometh, what will he do unto those husbandmen?	40 Lors donc que viendra le maître de la vigne, que fera-t-il à ces vignerons-là?"
41 They say unto him, He will miserably destroy those wicked men, and will let out his vineyard unto other husbandmen, which shall render him the fruits in their seasons.	41 Ils lui disent: "Il fera misérablement périr ces misérables, et il louera la vigne à d'autresvignerons, qui lui en livreront les fruits en leur temps."
42 Jesus saith unto them, Did ye never read in the scriptures, The stone which the builders rejected, the same is become the head of the corner: this is the Lord's doing, and it is marvellous in our eyes?	42 Jésus leur dit: "N'avez-vous jamais lu dans les Ecritures: La pierre qu'avaient rejetée lesbâtisseurs c'est elle qui est devenue pierre de faîte; c'est là l'oeuvre du Seigneur et elle est admirable à nos yeux?
43 Therefore say I unto you, The kingdom of God shall be taken from you, and given to a nation bringing forth the fruits thereof.	43 Aussi, je vous le dis: le Royaume de Dieu vous sera retiré pour être confié à un peuple qui luifera produire ses fruits."
44 And whosoever shall fall on this stone shall be broken: but on whomsoever it shall fall, it will grind him to powder.
45 And when the chief priests and Pharisees had heard his parables, they perceived that he spake of them.	45 Les grands prêtres et les Pharisiens, en entendant ses paraboles, comprirent bien qu'il les visait.
46 But when they sought to lay hands on him, they feared the multitude, because they took him for a prophet.	46 Mais, tout en cherchant à l'arrêter, ils eurent peur des foules, car elles le tenaient pour unprophète.
