Sirach 3

1 Hear me your father, O children, and do thereafter, that ye may be safe.	1 I figli della sapienza son l'assemblea dei giusti e la loro stirpe è obbedienza e amore.
2 For the Lord hath given the father honour over the children, and hath confirmed the authority of the mother over the sons.	2 Figli, ascoltate il giudizio del padre, ed eseguitelo per essere salvi.
3 Whoso honoureth his father maketh an atonement for his sins:	3 Perchè Dio volle il padre onorato dai figli, e, ricercati i diritti della madre, li ha stabiliti sopra i figlioli.
4 And he that honoureth his mother is as one that layeth up treasure.	4 Chi ama Dio farà espiazione pei suoi peccati, si guarderà dal commetterli, e nella sua quotidiana preghiera sarà esaudito.
5 Whoso honoureth his father shall have joy of his own children; and when he maketh his prayer, he shall be heard.	5 E' simile a chi accumula tesori colui che onora sua madre.
6 He that honoureth his father shall have a long life; and he that is obedient unto the Lord shall be a comfort to his mother.	6 Chi onora il padre avrà consolazione dai figlioli e quando pregherà sarà esaudito.
7 He that feareth the Lord will honour his father, and will do service unto his parents, as to his masters.	7 Chi onora il padre avrà vita molto lunga, e chi obbedisce al padre dà consolazione alla madre.
8 Honour thy father and mother both in word and deed, that a blessing may come upon thee from them.	8 Chi teme il Signore onora i genitori, e come padroni serve quelli che lo han generato.
9 For the blessing of the father establisheth the houses of children; but the curse of the mother rooteth out foundations.	9 Coi fatti e colle parole, tutto sopportando, onora tuo padre,
10 Glory not in the dishonour of thy father; for thy father's dishonour is no glory unto thee.	10 affinchè la sua benedizione scenda sopra di te e ti rimanga fino all'ultimo la sua benedizione.
11 For the glory of a man is from the honour of his father; and a mother in dishonour is a reproach to the children.	11 La benedizione del padre rende stabile le case dei figli, la maledizione della madre le divelge dai fondamenti.
12 My son, help thy father in his age, and grieve him not as long as he liveth.	12 Non ti gloriare dell'ignominia di tuo padre, chè non ti ridonda a onore la sua vergogna.
13 And if his understanding fail, have patience with him; and despise him not when thou art in thy full strength.	13 Infatti la gloria dell'uomo vien dall'onore di suo padre, e il padre disonorato è di disonore pel figliolo.
14 For the relieving of thy father shall not be forgotten: and instead of sins it shall be added to build thee up.	14 Figlio, assisti la vecchiaia di tuo padre e non lo contristare nella sua vita;
15 In the day of thine affliction it shall be remembered; thy sins also shall melt away, as the ice in the fair warm weather.	15 ed anche se diverrà debole di mente, compatiscilo, non lo disprezzare nella tua vigoria: la carità verso il padre non sarà mai dimenticata.
16 He that forsaketh his father is as a blasphemer; and he that angereth his mother is cursed: of God.	16 Per (aver sopportati) i difetti di tua madre ti sarà data ricompensa
17 My son, go on with thy business in meekness; so shalt thou be beloved of him that is approved.	17 e nella giustizia ti sarà edificata (la casa); nel giorno della tribolazione si ricorderanno di te e come il ghiaccio nei giorni sereni saranno sciolti i tuoi peccati.
18 The greater thou art, the more humble thyself, and thou shalt find favour before the Lord.	18 Quanto infame è colui che abbandona il padre, e maledetto da Dio chi fa arrabbiare la madre!
19 Many are in high place, and of renown: but mysteries are revealed unto the meek.	19 Figlio mio, fa le tue cose con mansuetudine ed oltre la gloria avrai l'amore degli uomini.
20 For the power of the Lord is great, and he is honoured of the lowly.	20 E quanto più sei grande, tanto più umiliati in tutte le cose, e troverai grazia presso a Dio,
21 Seek not out things that are too hard for thee, neither search the things that are above thy strength.	21 perchè solamente la potenza di Dio è grande ed Egli è onorato dagli umili.
22 But what is commanded thee, think thereupon with reverence, for it is not needful for thee to see with thine eyes the things that are in secret.	22 Non cercare quello che è al di sopra di te, e quello che è al di sopra delle tue forze non lo indagare; ma pensa sempre a quello che Dio ti ha comandato, e non essere curioso scrutatore delle molteplici opere di lui;
23 Be not curious in unnecessary matters: for more things are shewed unto thee than men understand.	23 perchè non è necessario per te vedere coi tuoi occhi le cose astruse.
24 For many are deceived by their own vain opinion; and an evil suspicion hath overthrown their judgment.	24 Non ti lambiccare il cervello in cose superflue, e non essere curioso scrutatore delle molteplici opere di Dio;
25 Without eyes thou shalt want light: profess not the knowledge therefore that thou hast not.	25 perchè a te sono state mostrate molte cose che sorpassano l'intelligenza dell'uomo.
26 A stubborn heart shall fare evil at the last; and he that loveth danger shall perish therein.	26 Moltisono stati tratti in inganno dalle loro opinioni e ritenuti nell'errore dai loro sensi.
27 An obstinate heart shall be laden with sorrows; and the wicked man shall heap sin upon sin.	27 Il cuore duro andrà a finir male, e chi ama il pericolo vi pe­rirà.
28 In the punishment of the proud there is no remedy; for the plant of wickedness hath taken root in him.	28 Il cuore che tien due vie non avrà successi e l'uomo dal cuore depravato vi troverà la rovina.
29 The heart of the prudent will understand a parable; and an attentive ear is the desire of a wise man.	29 Il cuore malvagio si caricherà di dolori, e il peccatore aggiungerà peccato a peccato.
30 Water will quench a flaming fire; and alms maketh an atonement for sins.	30 L'adunanza dei superbi è insanabile, perchè l'arbusto della colpa radica in loro senza che se ne accorgano.
31 And he that requiteth good turns is mindful of that which may come hereafter; and when he falleth, he shall find a stay.	31 Il cuor del sapiente si fa conoscere nella sapienza, e l'orecchio buono ascolterà la sapienza col più vivo desiderio.
	32 Il cuore sapiente e intelligente si guarderà dai peccati e riuscirà felicemente nelle opere di giustizia.
	33 L'acqua spegne la fiamma, e l'elemosina resiste ai peccati.
	34 Dio prende in considerazione chi rende grazie, e se ne ricorda in seguito, e nel tempo della caduta egli troverà appoggio.
