1 In the hundred and fifty-first year Demetrius the son of Seleucus departed from the city of Rome, and came up with a few men into a city of the sea coast, and reigned there.	1 Im Jahr 151 floh Demetrius, der Sohn des Seleukus, aus Rom, landete mit nur wenigen Männern in einer Stadt am Meer und rief sich dort zum König aus.
2 And it came to pass, as he entered into the house of the kingdom of his fathers, that the army seized upon Antiochus, and Lysias, to bring them unto him.	2 Als er in den Palast seiner Väter einzog, nahmen die Truppen Antiochus und Lysias fest, um sie ihm auszuliefern.
3 And when he knew it, he said: Let me not see their face.	3 Das wurde ihm mitgeteilt; er aber sagte: Ich will ihr Gesicht nicht sehen.
4 So the army slew them. And Demetrius sat upon the throne of his kingdom:	4 Da brachten die Truppen die beiden um und Demetrius setzte sich auf den Thron seines Reiches.
5 And there came to him the wicked and ungodly men of Israel: And Alcimus was at the head of them, who desired to be made high priest.	5 Alle Gesetzlosen und Frevler aus Israel kamen zu ihm. Ihr Anführer war Alkimus, der Hoherpriester werden wollte.
6 And they accused the people to the king, saying: Judas and his brethren have destroyed all thy friends, and he hath driven us out of our land.	6 Sie verklagten das Volk beim König und sagten: Judas und seine Brüder haben alle deine Freunde umgebracht und uns aus unserer Heimat vertrieben.
7 Now therefore send some man whom thou trustest, and let him go, and see all the havock he hath made amongst us, and in the king's lands: and let him punish all his friends and their helpers.	7 Schick darum einen Mann, dem du vertraust, er soll kommen und sich das ganze Unheil ansehen, das sie uns und dem Land des Königs zugefügt haben. Dann soll er sie und alle, die sie unterstützen, bestrafen.
8 Then the king chose Bacchides, one of his friends that ruled beyond the great river in the kingdom, and was faithful to the king: and he sent him,	8 Der König wählte Bakchides, einen der Freunde des Königs; er hatte den Befehl jenseits des Stroms, galt viel im Reich und war dem König treu ergeben.
9 To see the havock that Judas had made: and the wicked Alcimus he made high priest, and commanded him to take revenge upon the children of Israel.	9 Mit ihm schickte er den ruchlosen Alkimus, den er als Hohenpriester einsetzte, und gab ihm den Auftrag, an den Israeliten Vergeltung zu üben.
10 And they arose, and came with a great army into the land of Juda: and they sent messengers, and spoke to Judas and his brethren with peaceable words deceitfully.	10 Sie brachen mit einem großen Heer auf und zogen nach Judäa. Er schickte Boten an Judas und seine Brüder und bot ihnen mit hinterlistigen Worten Frieden.
11 But they gave no heed to their words: for they saw that they were come with a great army.	11 Doch diese glaubten ihnen nicht; denn sie sahen, dass sie mit einem großen Heer gekommen waren.
12 Then there assembled to Alcimus and Bacchides a company of the scribes to require things that are just:	12 Eine Gruppe von Schriftgelehrten ging indessen gemeinsam zu Alkimus und Bakchides, um eine gerechte Lösung zu suchen.
13 And first the Assideans that were among the children of Israel, and they sought peace of them.	13 Auch bemühten sich die Hasidäer, als erste von den Israeliten, bei ihnen um Frieden.
14 For they said: One that is a priest of the seed of Aaron is come, he will not deceive us.	14 Sie sagten sich nämlich: Ein Priester aus der Familie des Aaron ist zusammen mit den Truppen hergekommen; er wird uns nichts Böses tun.
15 And he spoke to them peaceably: and he swore to them, saying: We will do you no harm nor your friends.	15 Alkimus unterhielt sich auch friedlich mit ihnen, ja, er schwor ihnen: Wir werden euch und euren Freunden kein Leid zufügen.
16 And they believed him. And he took threescore of them, and slew them in one day, according to the word that is written:	16 Sie glaubten ihm; er aber ließ sechzig von ihnen festnehmen und noch am selben Tag hinrichten, genau wie geschrieben steht:
17 The flesh of thy saints, and the blood of them they have shed round about Jerusalem, and there was none to bury them.	17 Die Leichen deiner Frommen haben sie rings um Jerusalem zerstreut und ihr Blut haben sie vergossen und keiner hat sie begraben.
18 Then fear and trembling fell upon all the people: for they said: There is no truth, nor justice among them: for they have broken the covenant, and the oath which they made.	18 Da begann das ganze Volk, sich vor ihnen zu fürchten und zu zittern. Man sagte: Bei ihnen gibt es weder Treue noch Recht; denn sie haben den Vertrag gebrochen trotz des Eides, den sie geschworen haben.
19 And Bacchides removed the camp from Jerusalem, and pitched in Bethzecha: and he sent, and took many of them that were fled away from him, and some of the people he killed, and threw them into a great pit.	19 Bakchides marschierte von Jerusalem nach Bet-Sajit und schlug dort sein Lager auf. Er ließ viele von den Männern, die zu ihm übergelaufen waren, festnehmen, dazu auch einige Männer aus dem Volk, und befahl, sie an der großen Zisterne niederzumetzeln.
20 Then he committed the country to Alcimus, and left with him troops to help him. So Bacchides went away to the king:	20 Er übergab das Land dem Alkimus und ließ zu seiner Unterstützung einen Teil der Truppen zurück. Dann kehrte Bakchides zum König zurück.
21 But Alcimus did what he could to maintain his chief priesthood.	21 Alkimus aber kämpfte um das Hohepriesteramt.
22 And they that disturbed the people resorted to him, and they got the land of Juda into their power, and did much hurt in Israel.	22 Alle Unruhestifter im Volk sammelten sich um ihn; sie rissen die Macht über Judäa an sich und stürzten Israel tief ins Unglück.
23 And Judas saw all the evils that Alcimus, and they that were with him, did to the children of Israel, much more than the Gentiles.	23 Judas sah all das Unheil, das Alkimus und seine Anhänger bei den Israeliten anrichteten; sie waren schlimmer als die Ausländer.
24 And he went out into all the coasts of Juda round about, and took vengeance upon the men that had revolted, and they ceased to go forth any more into the country.	24 Da brach er auf, zog durch das Gebiet von ganz Judäa und übte an den Überläufern Vergeltung, sodass sie sich nicht mehr frei im Land bewegen konnten.
25 And Alcimus saw that Judas, and they that were with him prevailed: and he knew that he could not stand against them, and he went back to the king, and accused them of many crimes.	25 Alkimus merkte, dass Judas und seine Leute an Macht gewannen, und da er einsah, dass er ihnen nicht gewachsen war, wandte er sich wieder an den König und brachte schwere Anklagen gegen sie vor.
26 And the king sent Nicanor one of his principal lords, who was a great enemy to Israel: and he commanded him to destroy the people.	26 Da schickte der König einen seiner bedeutendsten Anführer, Nikanor, der ein erbitterter Gegner Israels war; er trug ihm auf, das Volk zu vernichten.
27 And Nicanor came to Jerusalem with a great army, and he sent to Judas and to his brethren deceitfully with friendly words,	27 Nikanor kam mit einem großen Heer nach Jerusalem. Er schickte Boten zu Judas und seinen Brüdern und sprach hinterlistig von Frieden. Er sagte:
28 Saying: Let there be no fighting between me and you: I will come with a few men to see your faces with peace.	28 Ich will keinen Krieg mit euch. Darum will ich mich in Begleitung von nur ein paar Leuten in aller Freundschaft mit euch treffen, um über den Frieden zu reden.
29 And he came to Judas, and they saluted one another peaceably: and the enemies were prepared to take away Judas by force.	29 Er kam auch zu Judas und sie begrüßten einander freundschaftlich. Seine Soldaten hielten sich indessen bereit, den Judas zu verschleppen.
30 And the thing was known to Judas that he was come to him with deceit: and he was much afraid of him, and would not see his face any more.	30 Judas aber erfuhr, dass er in böser Absicht gekommen war. Da wurde er vorsichtig und wollte nicht mehr mit ihm zusammenkommen.
31 And Nicanor knew that his counsel was discovered: and he went out to fight against Judas near Capharsalama.	31 Nun merkte Nikanor, dass sein Plan entdeckt worden war, und er zog aus, um Judas bei Kafar-Salama zum Kampf zu stellen.
32 And there fell of Nicanor's army almost five thousand men, and they fled into the city of David.	32 Aber fast fünfhundert von den Leuten des Nikanor fielen und seine Soldaten mussten sich in die Davidstadt flüchten.
33 And after this Nicanor went up into mount Sion: and some of the priests and the people came out to salute him peaceably, and to shew him the holocausts that were offered for the king.	33 Nach diesen Ereignissen ging Nikanor zum Berg Zion hinauf. Aus dem Tempelbezirk kamen ihm Priester und Älteste des Volkes entgegen, um ihn friedlich zu begrüßen und ihm das Opfer zu zeigen, das man für den König darbrachte.
34 But he mocked them and despised them, and abused them: and he spoke proudly,	34 Er aber verhöhnte und verspottete sie und machte sie unrein. Er prahlte
35 And swore in anger, saying: Unless Judas and his army be delivered into my hands, as soon as ever I return in peace, I will burn this house. And he went out in a great rage.	35 und schwor voller Zorn: Wenn Judas und sein Heer mir nicht sofort ausgeliefert werden, dann stecke ich dieses Haus in Brand, sobald ich heil zurück bin. Dann ging er wütend weg.
36 And the priests went in, and stood before the face of the altar and the temple: and weeping, they said:	36 Die Priester gingen wieder hinein, stellten sich vor den Altar und den Tempel, weinten und sagten:
37 Thou, O Lord, hast chosen this house for thy name to be called upon therein, that it might be a house of prayer and supplication for thy people.	37 Du hast dieses Haus erwählt, damit dein Name darüber ausgerufen werde; es sollte für dein Volk ein Haus des Betens und Flehens sein.
38 Be avenged of this man, and his army, and let them fall by the sword: remember their blasphemies, and suffer them not to continue any longer.	38 Übe Vergeltung an diesem Menschen und an seinem Heer! Sie sollen unter dem Schwert fallen. Denk an ihre Lästerungen und lass sie nicht weiterleben!
39 Then Nicanor went out from Jerusalem, and encamped near to Bethoron: and an army of Syria joined him.	39 Nikanor verließ Jerusalem und schlug in Bet-Horon sein Lager auf; dort stieß eine Abteilung Soldaten aus Syrien zu ihm.
40 But Judas pitched in Adarsa with three thousand men: and Judas prayed, and said:	40 Judas dagegen hatte mit dreitausend Mann sein Lager bei Hadascha und er betete:
41 O Lord, when they that were sent by king Sennacherib blasphemed thee, an angel went out, and slew of them a hundred and eighty-five thousand:	41 Damals, als die Leute des Königs von Assur über dich gelästert hatten, kam dein Engel und erschlug hundertfünfundachtzigtausend von ihnen.
42 Even so destroy this army in our sight to day, and let the rest know that he hath spoken ill against thy sanctuary: and judge thou him according to his wickedness.	42 Schlag heute dieses Heer vor unseren Augen genauso, damit die, die von ihnen übrig bleiben, erkennen, dass Nikanor schlimme Worte gegen dein Heiligtum ausgestoßen hat. Richte ihn, wie es sein Verbrechen verdient.
43 And the armies joined battle on the thirteenth day of the month Adar: and the army of Nicanor was defeated, and he himself was first slain in the battle.	43 Am Dreizehnten des Monats Adar stießen die Heere aufeinander und das Heer des Nikanor wurde vernichtend geschlagen; er selbst fiel als erster im Kampf.
44 And when his army saw that Nicanor was slain, they threw away their weapons, and fled:	44 Als sein Heer sah, dass Nikanor gefallen war, warfen sie die Waffen weg und flohen.
45 And they pursued after them one day's journey from Adazer, even till ye come to Gazara, and they sounded the trumpets after them with signals.	45 Die Juden verfolgten sie einen Tagesmarsch weit, von Hadascha bis nach Geser, und bliesen mit den Signaltrompeten hinter ihnen her.
46 And they went forth out of all the towns of Judea round about, and they pushed them with the horns, and they turned again to them, and they were all slain with the sword, and there was not left of them so much as one.	46 Aus allen umliegenden Dörfern Judäas kamen die Männer heraus und umzingelten die Flüchtenden. Da wandten sich die Feinde gegeneinander und alle fielen unter dem Schwert; nicht einer von ihnen blieb übrig.
47 And they took the spoils of them for a booty, and they cut off Nicanor's head, and his right hand, which he had proudly stretched out, and they brought it, and hung it up over against Jerusalem.	47 Die Juden nahmen ihnen ihre Ausrüstungen weg und machten reiche Beute. Dem Nikanor schlugen sie den Kopf ab und ebenso die rechte Hand, die er so vermessen ausgestreckt hatte; sie brachten beides nach Jerusalem und hängten es dort öffentlich auf.
48 And the people rejoiced exceedingly, and they spent that day with great joy.	48 Im Volk herrschte große Freude; sie begingen diesen Tag als einen großen Festtag
49 And he ordained that this day should be kept every year, being the thirteenth of the month of Adar.	49 und beschlossen, den dreizehnten Adar künftig jedes Jahr zu feiern.
50 And the land of Juda was quiet for a short time.	50 Danach hatte Judäa für kurze Zeit Ruhe.
